Lori Walker I finally finished Under the Tuscan Sun! And I started America's Queen: The Life of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, in addition to the other 2 books.

Lori Walker Dini, Overall, I liked Lady Chatterley. I feel that parts of it lagged a bit and could have been sped up, but the overall story was good. Some of the sex scenes were quite vivid, so if you're one who blushes easily (like me) be careful whom you read this around. It's a pretty short book. Once I made up my mind to read it, I finished in a couple of days. I can't say that there's a certain type of person who would enjoy it more then another type, but I'd recommend it to, if nothing else, get it crossed off of one's prestigious reading list.

message 903: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I started reading Water for Elephants last night. I've read some this morning and I really like it so far. I can't wait to settle in for a few hours and just read it.

Lori -- cool, thanks. It would certainly be nice to cross this off one's list :D

yeah p&p is mine too. i absolutely how stubborn and proud the both are. i have only watched one p&p; the one with kiera knightley. didnt know there was another will check that out.

yeah even though i'm still at the begginning of count of monte cristo i already notice some differences between the movie and the book but i already kinda expected it.yeah i love how there are so many characters as well. kinda hard to keep track but i guess thats what keeps you focused one the book. i know i'm going to enjoy it will defintely check out those discussions you talked about.

message 906: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished Water for Elephants very, very early this morning. It was amazing! I'm going to start Wait Till Next Year, which is a memoir about being a baseball fan and (maybe) All the King's Men in the very near future.

message 907: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I've been doing a Gilmore Girls reading challenge and I've loved the feeling I get from reading Rory books, even if I'm not totally loving the book itself. Right now I'm reading On the Road. Then I'll read All the King's Men because I want to and because I need to read it for a blog post I'm writing. I kind of dropped off on my non-fiction. I may go back to my original plan of reading about the wars from the beginning (with the Revolution), but we'll see.

i really want to read On the road as well. heard its a brilliant book.

message 909: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Kehinde, I'm still only on part one of On the Road, but it's making me wish I could just drop out of the real world for a few months and make my way across the country on a few dollars. I mean, forget the drugs (I'm not interested) but I love the concept of meeting up with friends halfway across the country and flitting hither and thither without a real care in the world. Definitely read it!

message 910: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I'm almost half-way through Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace. I really like it, but the subject is very gloomy - perhaps I should have kept it for next winter...

Literary Multitudes (literary_multitudes) I plan on reading "On The Road" in the coming weeks finally. During our one-week-vacation, hopefully. I'm glad you like it, so I'm really wanting to read it more. :)

message 912: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm going to be going on a road trip to Houston (about 10 hours each way) and, if I could read in the car, I'd want to be reading this.

message 913: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished On the Road! I wound up giving it a 4. I didn't like the narrator, but I liked Dean and I loved the concept of the book (that is, traveling all over and experiencing and seeing as much as possible).

Next I'll be reading Mrs. Dalloway, Out of Africa, or All the King's Men. I can't decide which one I want to read yet. But I really love that I'm reading so many books from the show; I've wanted to do that since I started watching the show at 14.

message 914: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (gittetofte) I'm reading Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris - the first in the Sooky Stackhouse series, and I'm enjoying it so much!

message 915: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished The Legend of Bagger Vance, which is on Rory's list. I thought it was terrible!

Now I'm reading The Golden Compass and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I've heard the 3rd in the series is phenomenal, so I'm looking forward to getting to it. I hope to read the entire series before I go out of town on the 11th, but we'll see. I have a ton of things to do between now and then.

message 916: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished The Golden Compass this morning. I plan on starting book 2, The Subtle Knife, when I'm done checking my email. The Golden Compass was pretty darn good. I think I'll have to rewatch the movie in the not too distant future. I think I might actually be able to finish the entire series before I leave!

message 917: by Arctic (new)

Arctic | 571 comments His Dark Materials is definitely one of my favorite reads. Glad you're enjoying it too. It combines many interesting and deep topics that one wouldn't necessarily expect to find in a YA series. I think the books go a bit more in depth than the movie did, but I also think the movie might not have worked so well if they had done it differently. I'll be interested to hear what you think of the end.

As for me, I recently got a head start on Anna Karenina. enjoying it so far. much easier reading than I had anticipated.

Ah, The Golden Compass. Another book sitting in my shelf unread. I should remember to get to it soon. So many people have recommended it.

message 919: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I am almost halfway through the second book. I think I need to take a break and read some non-fiction for a couple of days. I'm not a huge fan of the second book so far. It feels like fan fiction. But I'll keep trudging through so I can get to the third book.

message 920: by Becca (new)

Becca (becca-lou) | 2 comments i'm half way through Angels and Demons, Inkspell and The Little White Horse

message 921: by Emma Rose (new)

Emma Rose (magicalemmarose) His Dark Materials Trilogy is brilliant, I hope you're enjoying it, Lori!

I'm currently in the middle of Never Let Me Go. Becca, I read Inkheart a while ago and thought it wasn't worth my reading the sequels (one of those cases when the idea is actually better than the execution, if you see what I mean). Is it better?

yeah it is. they go into the book this time

message 923: by Emma Rose (new)

Emma Rose (magicalemmarose) I've just finished Never Let Me Go, it was thought-provoking and I really enjoyed it. I'm starting a steampunk novel, Boneshaker by Cherie Priest.

Gitte (gittetofte) Sibylle wrote: "I've just finished Never Let Me Go, it was thought-provoking and I really enjoyed it. I'm starting a steampunk novel, Boneshaker by Cherie Priest."

I really like Never Let Me Go. Such a sad story! I think it's one of those stories that stays with you always.

message 925: by Emma Rose (new)

Emma Rose (magicalemmarose) I think so too. I can't get Kathy out of my mind, she has such a distinct voice.

message 926: by Emma Rose (new)

Emma Rose (magicalemmarose) Just finished Boneshaker by Cherie Priest, which was engrossing, and I'm now about to start Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld, another steampunk novel.

message 927: by Julia (last edited Jul 05, 2010 04:51PM) (new)

Julia (juliaarlana) I'm reading a couple different books, The Neverending Story by Michael Ende, The Colorado Kid by Stephen King and The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier.

message 928: by Arctic (new)

Arctic | 571 comments I have Leviathan on my nightstand to be read shortly. hope you enjoy it, Sibylle!

been wanting to read The Lady and the Unicorn for some time as well.

Still reading Anna myself, as well as Coupland's Microserfs.

message 929: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments I'm currently reading Until I Find You by John Irving. Only halfway through. I've read this book since last week..

message 930: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Nash I am currently reading Meg Cabot's "Big Boned." My book club meets tonight, so a new title will be selected for that. I usually have a few books that I read at once.

message 931: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm really badly in the middle of several books. I'm still reading Out of Africa. I'm a few pages into Atlas Shrugged. And I'm even less into One Hundred Years of Solitude, which I'd really like to read. I haven't been taking a lot of time to read lately, which makes me kind of sad. And I've been easily distracted when I do sit down to read. Hopefully I'll turn a corner soon.

message 932: by Jane (new)

Jane (jdukuray) Hello -- My name is Jane and I'm in Seattle. I am new to the group, but I love Good Reads and joined this group because my daughter and I are fans of Lorelei and Rory and of reading. As others have said, I do tend to keep several books going at once, including Audible books that I listen to walking to work. At the moment, I am reading To Kill a Mocking Bird, listening to Freddy and Fredericka, and working on a non-fiction book "Africa" by Richard Dowden. No verdict yet on F&F, but To Kill a Mockingbird is a wonderful book, as is the Africa book.

message 933: by Shelley (new)

Shelley (shelcheri) | 2 comments I'm half-way through Eat Pray Love, which is great! Jane Eyre comes next! :)

message 934: by Laura K (new)

Laura K I was reading DEATH BY CASHMERE by Sally Goldenbaum, but I set it aside yesterday when the book I ordered from the library came in. I am now reading THE HOUSE ON SALT HAY ROAD by Carin Clevidence. Seems good so far, though I am only 15 pages in. My first impressions is that it is a "quiet" novel.

message 935: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments I recently finished Until I Find You by John Irving. I actually liked this book despite some disturbing parts. This book has many issues on relationships.

I'm now reading Airhead by Meg Cabot

Jane Eyre is one of my absolutely favorite novels! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do-it's the only book I have read multiple times. I keep discovering new things about it. Happy reading!

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments I finished reading Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson loved loved loved this book. it' a wonderful and magical love story..

I'm now currently reading Killer Dreams by Iris Johansen

message 941: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments Finished Killer Dreams by Iris Johansen... Today I started reading How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns to Live Like Everyone Else by Michael Gates Gill

message 942: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Finished One Hundred Years of Solitude. I plan on finishing Out of Africa next. And then focusing on some shorter books for a while until Hawaii by James Michener comes in next week.

message 943: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Apparently, there's a quota of how much Out of Africa I can handle in a day without needing a couple of days off. It's such a lovely story, but it's a lot to think about. You don't usually sit and pore over a collection of short stories, right? You don't with this book either. My copy of Hawaii came today. I finished a novella (The Metamorphosis) and a play (Splendor in the Grass) today. My goal was to read 30 books this summer. I have 20 days to read 10 more books and finish the Little House series. I believe in myself!

message 944: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments I'm currently reading Me and Mr. Darcy by Alexandra Potter. Only 70 pages in, but quite enjoying it so far.

message 945: by M (new)

M | 12 comments The Color Purple for now. I'm about half way through the book, hoping to finish it within the next two days. Then I will start on Infinite Jest.

message 946: by Diana (new)

Diana I've been reading The Picture of Dorian Gray, I'm liking it so far but I'm hoping that the actual story will pick up soon since right now their conversations are basically going in circles (what's good what's bad; what's bad, what's good.)
I'm also reading Robinson Crusoe, I'm not loving it; mostly because it's only him so nothing is really going on.

I'm planning to start The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud soon especially since I have a six hour plane trip coming at the end of the month.

I am currently ready Old New Yorkand I am loving the descriptions of old society, I am also reading The Bonesetter's Daughter which I am very excited about.

message 948: by Rosabelle (new)

Rosabelle Purnama | 16 comments I am currently reading Things I Want My Daughters to Know by Elizabeth Noble.. Quite enjoyable so far, although it deals with a sad topic

message 949: by Paul (new)

Paul | 3 comments If anyone is looking for a great suspense novel try, "They're watching" by Gregg Hurwitz. This book is gripping and has lots of twists and turns. I had read one of his other books, "The Crime Writer" which was also good. At first I thought that the relationship subplot with his wife was a little maudlin but then I realized that it was the balance for the moral of the story.

message 950: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I went through a really bad book drought and I just couldn't focus on anything long enough to make much progress. But I think I've finally picked something to stick with--Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson, which is pretty much the transcripts of the oral history done on Thompson and they've been arranged so that you get a chronological telling of his life from many points of view. I know that there are two Thompson books in some Rory lists (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and F&L on the Campaign Trail), so I just wanted to recommend this to those who really liked those two.
