Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments Well, I feel like the worst person in the world. I did NOT mean to totally abandon this group. I don't even know how it happened. I've just been so preoccupied with other things I kept forgetting to come over here. Have I even read one book with you guys this year? Sheesh. I'm horrible! I'M SO SORRY. And knowing me I'll accidentally disappear again. >.>

I definitely won't be able to do one in November because of NaNoWriMo, and December...I don't know. But maybe I can at least jump back in next year and try my hardest to be more active. I'm seriously sorry, guys. I didn't mean to abandon you! D: But I will probably disappear again during November. I love you all though and miss you and this group! <333

It's December! Which means that we have lived through NaNo. :P

I'm busy in December too but not quite so madly busy, so if anybody was interested in reading something this month I'd be up for that. (I also intend to catch up on the ones I missed, soon!) Last December we settled on something small...

Or, we could just figure everyone's extra busy this month, too much to read, but figure out a good deal ahead of time what we will read in January. :)

I know we've been thinking of reading Peter Pan in Scarlet for awhile...

Anyways, just popping in to wake up the discussion now that NaNo's over! :)

message 153: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments Like I will probably be able to read something around the middle/end of the month (college will end soon so mandatory reading and essays will also end and I will hopefully pass... mhm)
Yeah. whatever you want to read is probably good

message 154: by Linda (new)

Linda | 124 comments I'm sorry I haven't been much here lately. :(
I'm also pretty busy this month so I probably won't have time to read.

I would also be interested in reading Peter Pan in Scarlet. Like Celti said, we've been planning to read it already for some time. So perhaps we could read it next? In January maybe if everyone is busy right now?

@Odile: It's okay! I think we're all a bit busy this time of year. :P Hee.

Peter Pan in Scarlet for January sounds good with me, if everyone's agreeable to the idea. :)

message 156: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments Good gravy! I've been so inactive here lately. Actually, I've been inactive just about everywhere lately. Shameful.

I'm sooo glad this group is still going. I've missed you guys! <3

I FINALLY have a copy of Peter Pan in Scarlet and am dying to read it, so doing it for January sounds absolutely perfect to me. It'll be so much fun reading it all together. Especially since we read Peter Pan together. So yes, sounds perfect!

So glad to hear from you all again! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! ^_^

*glomps Lauri* YAY, you're back! ^_^

My Christmas was awesome -- I hope everyone else had a fabulous one too! <3

I just made a thread for Peter Pan in Scarlet (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). ^_^

I can't believe it's going to be 2015 in only 4 days!! :O (One of my New Year's resolutions is going to be to keep up with this group better! I really want to read the books I missed. :D)

message 158: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments Merry late christmas I guess?
I am sorry I disappeared. I somehow am doing a ton of things and remembering to check goodreads is not one of them
Peter Pan in scarlet sounds good, I will get on getting a copy from my library then

Linda | 124 comments HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!! <3
I'm sorry I haven't been here for a while! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year's Eve. :)

Thank you Celti for making the thread!

message 161: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments I wish I could join you guys, sadly I do not have the book. Maybe next month. :)

message 162: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments (okay I will totally buy the book on amazon right now and start reading tomorrow morning when I have a surprise day off I guess. Maybe I will be busy but I should make progress, Should we decide what to read in February soon?

message 163: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
I'm still near the beginning... I must pick up my reading of it as well!

Good idea to think of February, Autschi! :)

Any ideas, y'all?

message 164: by Linda (last edited Jan 23, 2015 05:51AM) (new)

Linda | 124 comments Yes, we probably should start thinking about what to read in February.

At some point I think we were thinking about reading something from Neil Gaiman. Does anyone have any specific book from him they would like to read?
Also, we've been planning to read Howl's Moving Castle so maybe that could be a good choice too?

message 165: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments Ooh Neil Gaiman? That could be fun.

message 166: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments (I mean I will always vote for good omens by neil gaiman and terry pratchett cause it is one of my favourite books and I will take any reason to reread the book... so that might be a suggestion for neil gaiman
the ocean at hte end of the lane by neil gaiman also sounds good and it is his newest book I think

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
I haven't ever read anything by him, so I'd be up for it if everyone else is. :) One upside is he's so popular his books are bound to be at libraries... And I know I'll be going there in the first week of February. :) I've vaguely wanted to read Stardust for awhile, but I'd be up for others too! :D

Booklinks! Because booklinks are cool. *nod nod*
Stardust
The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Neverwhere

Obviously there are others too. XD Um. I clearly do not have experience with Neil Gaiman, so if anyone else has thoughts, do speak! ^_^

@Autschi: Haha, yes, I know that feeling of any excuse to read a favorite book. XD Good Omens sounds interesting; my library doesn't have it though. :-/

Also I would totally be up for Howl's Moving Castle, anytime! We HAVE been meaning to read it for awhile. If we decide to do a Neil Gaiman for February, we could do Howl for March... Or vice-versa.

message 168: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments I've been meaning to try Neil Gaiman. I feel ashamed I've never read any of his stuff. I don't know when I'll get a chance to get my hands on any of it though, but I could try.

And I am ALWAYS up for Howl's Moving Castle!!! I've actually super been in the mood for it but I just have so, so many new books to read it would feel silly to reread it right now. So this would be the perfect excuse. XD

Any option sounds good to me! I just can't promise I'll be able to get my hands on a Neil Gaiman book any time soon but that's fine. I have so many books stacked up I should probably use February to get through them anyway.

message 169: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
@Lauri: I know the feeling! o.o Sooo many books to read... And also not always able to get hold of things. :-/

So... do we want to read a Neil Gaiman in February and plan on Howl's Moving Castle for March?

It being almost February... Which Gaiman? XD

I'm vaguely voting for "Ocean at the End of the Lane" because Autschi mentioned it, or for "Stardust" because I've wanted to read it for awhile... but I'm good with whatever! What do y'all think? :)

message 170: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments Then I am voting for "Ocean at the end of the lane" (since I really suck at reading the books on time, already own the book and just need some motivation to actually finish and discuss it...
But I am still good with whatever you guys decide

message 171: by Linda (new)

Linda | 124 comments Reading a Neil Gaiman book in February and Howl's Moving Castle in March sounds good to me. :)

I'm also voting for "Ocean at the End of the Lane".

message 172: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
Okay! So... since this is most of us who are active, I guess we'll do The Ocean at the End of the Lane for February and Howl's Moving Castle for March... (And if Lauri can get hold of the Gaiman, that's awesome, and if not... she seems okay with it?)

I hope this is fine with everyone!

Myself, I should be in town the 7th, so I'll make sure to get February's book from the library then! ...So I'll be a bit late on starting it. But I'm excited too--it will be interesting to finally read something by Gaiman. :)

message 173: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
Oh, and I made a thread for February. :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 174: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments Yes, I'm perfectly fine with it! Though now that I've read the synopsis of this book I really, really want to get my hands on it. It sounds fascinating. o.o So I might find a way... And if not, I can at least see what you guys think of it and decide from there if I want to read it in the future. ;)

message 175: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments What are we doing for next month?

Abi wrote: "What are we doing for next month?"

Ummm... I don't know yet. :) Do you have a suggestion? :D Or anyone else...?

message 177: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments hmmm I don't know. Oh well I got a few books this last month. What about I Am the Messenger? By Markus Zuask.

message 178: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments That looks like quite an interesting story, I don't know if I'd be able to get my hands on it though.

Suggestions, suggestions... Well, we could read Castle in the Air which is the sequel to Howl's Moving Castle since we're reading that one this month.

Ummm...I've been on a big fairytale kick myself. So there's things like Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine or Beauty by Robin McKinley.

I've also been thinking about trying The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern but I have no idea what kind of content it has.

Orrr...The Borrowers by Mary Norton? That's another book I keep meaning to read. Or something else classic like The Inheritance by Louisa May Alcott.

Just throwing out suggestions to get the brain going and trying to think of something everyone might have, but of course I'm open to most anything. ^_^

message 179: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments The Night Circus would be a fun read. I have that book, and I wouldn't mind reading it again.

I Am the Messenger and The Night Circus both sound interesting. :) I'm DYING to read Beauty at some point... ;) (Yes, very much a fairytale person, myself!)

Opinions, y'all? :)

message 181: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments Both The Night Circus and Beauty sound fabulous to me. I've read Beauty before but it was yeeears ago and I was planning on rereading it in the very near future anyway, so that would work out great.

Anyone else have a vote? April is almost here. XD

message 182: by Linda (last edited Mar 31, 2015 06:11AM) (new)

Linda | 124 comments I'm voting for The Night Circus. Beauty sounds interesting too but I'm not sure if I'm able to find it here. :/

I haven't finished Howl's Moving Castle yet but I can already say I definitely want to read the sequel at some point. Also, I would love to read a fairytale retelling too. :)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
Well then, The Night Circus it is, then! :D

I went ahead and made a thread for it, since it's almost April after all and I'm going to be gone tomorrow... https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It's at my library, so I'll just have to make sure I get there sometime soon. ^_^

And if y'all want, we can keep discussing "next books" and figure out something for May... :)

Fairytale retellings are SO fun... I really want to reread the sequel to Howl's Moving Castle sometime too. So glad you're enjoying HMC, Odile! :D

message 184: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments Great! Thanks for making the thread, Celti. ^_^ I look forward to reading it with everyone.

message 185: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments Sounds awesome!!

message 186: by Linda (new)

Linda | 124 comments Yay! I think we should keep discussing "next books" so that we will have enough time to choose and vote the next one.

I think Castle in the Air or a fairytale retelling would be a good choice for May.

message 187: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments Agreed, we should. :)

I'm not sure what to read next time, I'll just hang around and see what you guys decide.

message 188: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
Castle in the Air would be cool for May, or a fairytale! :)

Does anyone have fairytale retelling suggestions? I know Lauri mentioned Ella Enchanted and Beauty...

message 189: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments Any fairytale by Gail Carson Levine
is a good read, I like her style. I think I've read most of her books, but I wpuld gladly reread them. :-)

message 190: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
I agree, Gail Carson Levine is awesome! :) What about... Fairest? I read it forever ago but hardly remember a THING about it... It's a retelling of Snow White. :) I know I loved Ella Enchanted, even though I don't remember THAT very well either... :P

message 191: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments I have Fairest sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. That'd be perfectly fine with me! :D

message 192: by A. J (new)

A. J | 28 comments Fairest sounds good.

message 193: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
So... Are we thinking of maybe trying Fairest for May? Odile, do you have an opinion? :) We could even do Castle in the Air, in June, maybe...?

message 194: by Linda (last edited Apr 14, 2015 07:32AM) (new)

Linda | 124 comments It looks like I will be really busy in May so I probably have to skip the month. I still haven't started reading The Night Circus but hopefully I'm able to begin soon.

Castle in the Air in June sounds great. :)

message 195: by deborah (new)

deborah o'carroll (deborahocarroll) | 190 comments Mod
@Odile: Aww, that's too bad. :( But we all have those months, I guess!

I guess I will go ahead and say that Fairest is May's book, and Castle in the Air for June! :) Yay for having things figured out!

Also, one thing about Castle in the Air: It's sort of less of a sequel and more of companion-book... Some of the characters from Howl's Moving Castle are in it, eventually, but it's mostly about other characters, mostly in another land in the same world... But I still love it; I just wanted to mention that because it could easily be disappointing if one doesn't know that, going in, and expects it to be an all-out sequel.

message 196: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (autschi) | 80 comments Fairest sounds like a great may book! I will actually try read the book again. I am sorry I keep disappearing and stuff but yeah. I don't even know why so I cant really change anything

Whew, I keep disappearing too! Sorry, guys! :-/

And since today's the day to start "Castle in the Air", (I just made a thread for it: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) maybe we should start figuring out sometime this month what we want to read in July! :)

The only random idea I have is The Scarlet Pimpernel. I know we've had lots of ideas before... Suggestions or votes, anyone? :) We do have awhile to get it figured out, just thought I'd get the discussion going and try to be more active around here! :P

message 199: by Linda (last edited Jun 02, 2015 02:16AM) (new)

Linda | 124 comments I'm so sorry I haven't been here lately!! I've been really busy but now I have time again. I've missed you all so much. <3

The Scarlet Pimpernel sounds good! I have wanted to read it (or watch some film adaptation) for some time already.

message 200: by Christine (new)

Christine Smith (lauriloth) | 81 comments It's so good to hear from you guys again! *huggles* And yeah, going ahead and deciding on a book is a good idea. Sometimes we're already in the new month and haven't settled on things, so this is good. XD We've been more on top of things the last few months though. I'm proud of us!

Ah man, I saw The Scarlet Pimpernel at a secondhand bookstore the other day but didn't get it. I wonder if it's still there... I don't know why I didn't buy it. I was just kind of in a rush.

So that's a good idea. Another idea is House of Many Ways since it proceeds Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air which we're reading this month. Or something like Ella Enchanted since we just read Fairest. Just throwing out suggestions. It all sounds good to me!
