Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Shelf!

message 452: by Nairabell (new)

Nairabell | 634 comments Steph - quick question. One of my team wants to read Priestess Dreaming for the Meow shelf but realised that the lead character is a witch and the cat shifter sister is supporting. Is that catty enough or would the book have to be focused on the shifter sister?

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments That works, Nairabell. Thanks for checking.

Belinda | 801 comments Does Priestess Dreaming (Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon, #16) by Yasmine Galenorn work for the meow/cat shifter shelf? One of the sisters Delihia is a cat shifter.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Do all Bingo books have to be part of a series?

message 463: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments No Mary, they just have to fit the criteria and be at least 200 pages.

message 464: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Ok. Thanks. Feeling a bit of series burn out.

message 465: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments No worries Mary, pick what you want to read, its meant to be fun :)

message 466: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments It's more like I don't want to start a new series. Too many going to keep track of anymore.

I never acquire a book just for the cover so I am going to either pick a book in a series I am reading where I love the covers or a stand alone book I got from the library because the cover initially caught my eye.

http://fictfact.com is great for series tracking. Bad on the wallet with the lists of "next in series" and "coming soon for your series" displays ...

It's not another book site with a social scene, reviews, groups, etc. Just tracks your series (you can do a star rating and you can "follow" other people but all the "follow" does is show you what series they are tracking).

message 468: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I am on fictfact. I can keep track of which ones I read. It's more back stories and continuing stories and such. You know keeping track of which bad group or guy this or that set of shifters, witches, vamps or whatever is battling. That's what I mean. I want to finish up some series before I start new ones.

D.G. | 2752 comments Wizards count for the Witchy shelf too, right?

Also, does it have to the MC or just any character? I have books that are shelved as 'witches' but I can't tell from the descriptions if the MC is the witch or just supporting characters.

Ah sorry...I just noticed that it also says "any form of magic." So all the books I'm thinking should work.

message 478: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments This is probably a very stupid question but since it's the first book I just don't know. Could Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb be used for the Itchy Witch shelf (witch/wizard/any type of magic)? I didn't want to look through 70+ pages of shelf listings but it has been shelved many times as paranormal, prn-sci-fi, urban fantasy, futuristic, fantasy, etc. I don't know anything about the series so I don't know if there is any form of magic going on.

message 479: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments No, sorry Kim, there's no magic in the In Death series. It's purely contemporary.

message 480: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments I had a feeling that it would not fit but wanted to ask just in case. Thanks! :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL Debbie :)

Shelf is comin' up shortly.

In the meantime - I've been wondering ... How's everyone making out with the longer game? Still hanging in there and enjoying it or not so much?

is there a winning shelf today?

message 489: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Oct 07, 2015 12:16PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments I don't mind the longer game. I'm not positive this is a longer game, yet. I remember BINGO rounds that kept going even when team card had several four in a rows. How many calls before the winning call was usual for past rounds? (With this game a minimum of 8 shelf calls are needed to win and we've had 12 so far -- not sure how that compares to past rounds other than a minimum of 4 needed.)

I'm on the fence about the winning patterns. On the one hand, every call is potentially in line for a win; on the other hand it's not exciting yet like when a shelf call gives you three or four in a winning pattern. Just not there yet with our 6 of 9 needed stamps.

It's less exciting that a shelf call is in a winning pattern -- because they all are. That's likely going to change the closer to winning call we get.

It's less exciting that a shelf call is in a single winning pattern compared to a shelf call that could mean a win in multiple directions. Particularly those corner ones that could win vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

I'm pretty sure once multiple teams have eight shelves in a winning pattern, that the possible winner will pretty much be decided which could steal away from the excitement. Not as likely there will be a race to the finish between multiple teams for which final shelf call is a win in a variety of patterns ... I don't think any of the cards have the exact same shelves in any of the winning patterns see a race to finish.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Duh ... answered my own question with past round stats at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... with number of shelves called ranging between 10 and 14.

love your new name with 3 shelf call

message 492: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yep, that is cute Debbie :DDD

As to winning shelves, check out Judithe's speadsheet, she's got a couple of teams needing the same shelves to win already. Look at the bottom.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Shelf's up!

Glad ya'll are enjoying this round. It's in the running for longest. 10-12 has been common, while 14 is the longest, I think. This is our 13th and no winning shelf as yet.

ETA: And I guess I was more curious about how everyone is enjoying this style (multiple/new patterns) vs this length of game.

Oh crap I didn't realize today could have been a potential win for anyone yet. Wasn't even stressing it yet because still thinking most had 5-6 at most in winning patterns ( possibly a 7th for Team 5, 9, 12 & 14 once all stamped) and the spreadsheet was showing non-winning shelf names. Oh well, misreading the spreadsheet saved myself some stress and if today's call was the win for anyone someone would have said so already.

What shelf call would have made two teams potentially win today or get 8 in a pattern at least? Which teams already have more than six in a pattern stamped? (I'm not sure I'm reading the spreadsheet correctly or I wouldn't ask.)

message 497: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (last edited Oct 07, 2015 03:17PM) (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Scroll to the bottom, Judithe has some analysis.

There are a couple of teams with 7, this shelf gives Team #2 8 shelves, but I don't think they've read them all yet.

message 498: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments We have two previous shelves pending reviews/stamps + this week's missing before we'll have 8.

Speaking as a team that just made it to 6 shelves, woo hoo!!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Team 13 now has 7 towards one winning pattern.
