Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I just learned about "triple talaq" today from my coworker.

He said in the Indian Muslim community saying "talaq" three times is honored as an official divorce.

I learned today that men with children have lower testosterone levels. Also, college graduates are the fasting growing group of bankruptcy filers. (The percentage of bankruptcy filers who did not finish high school or college dropped.)

This does not surprise me at all. Everyone that I know that is out of work has at least one degree. Most of them are people that used to work in tech.

It costs between $5,000 - 10,000 to de-ice a plane. De-icing fluid costs $15/gallon.

And sometimes, if departure times are backed up, a plane has to be de-iced twice! (I did already know that.)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments If I worked at Goodwill I would be less than friendly. All of those old sweaters kind of smell like mothballs mixed with body odor.

Dyson vacuum cleaners made for the American market are louder than European or Asian models, because Americans associate noise with power and don't trust a quiet machine.

message 210: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I learned the other day that OXY-Clean should be placed inside the HE (hi-efficiency) washer, not in the drawer with the detergent, where I have been putting it all these years.

The interior of my washer already looks cleaner, less stained on the seal/rim.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I learned just last week that my 2 coworkers with whom I've been working for over a year are sisters... even more interesting, through casual conversation with one of them, I learned she worked for a good friend of mine for a long time before said friend moved to Colorado, and we both agreed we adore her.

I did not know that Blockbuster used to collect half a BILLION dollars in late fees every year. Is that even possible?? I guess it is. Probably for many people their late fees would far exceed the cost of the rental.

I'm always behind the person at the library who can't check out more materials until they pay their $30 in late fees, or pay for the $45 book they lost. People! Why are you making the library so expensive for yourself?

message 213: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 795 comments I learned if you start the Wizard of OZ movie with the 3rd roar of the MGM lion and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon together, turn off the volume on the movie, the music will match what is happening on the movie.

I learned that:

My daughters have bright futures as CIA-trained torture experts.

If you have kids, it’s inevitable. You will watch what they watch and listen to what they listen to. Which means at some point you will want to put your head through drywall or a car window.

Sleep deprivation can lead to insanity and insanity can lead to buying sweatshirts at Abercrombie.

Malls were built so people can get discount socks, ab crunchers, and giant pretzels under one roof.

According to a Google ad that keeps popping up here, Detroit is a great place to live.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Oh, poor Clark. Being a good dad is rough business. I try to stay away from Abercrombie. It's a horrible place. They even have scented air. Nasy.

I'm one of the those library fee people. I don't know why I can't keep up with my due dates, it's like a blank area of my brain that just doesn't function. And I used to collect late fees from people at Blockbuster, so I should know better.

I can only keep track of my library due dates by checking them online, which I do constantly. It's so useful because I check out a lot of shit. Right now for example I have 10 things checked out with 6 different due dates.

message 224: by Cheri (last edited Mar 09, 2012 04:36PM) (new)

Cheri | 795 comments Our library system sends an email update a few days before the materials are due. That way you can renew online w/o penalty. What a deal!
