I'm re-reading A Thousand Days in Tuscany A Bittersweet Adventure which is centralized around the food and simplicity of life, as well as containing some good recipes, and it just makes me yearn for that kind of simple, healthy life. I'd love to learn how to make bread in a big ol' stone communal oven.
I agree with Jessica...I liked Umbria more than Tuscany, but I didn't see as much of Tuscany as Umbria...and I was only there about a week, then in Rome for three days...Yes, Sally, I'm quite mindful with my yogurt opening lately...I've messed up too many shirts the other way:)
These last few days I've learned that if I add too much stairmaster and basketball and minimize the elliptical my knees hurt on Saturday mornings.
Tonight I learned that gargling with a mixture of orange juice, sea salt, cayenne and Jack Daniels doesn't taste as bad as I thought, but it hurts a raw throat like a mutha! (Jared said if I reversed the amounts of OJ & JD, it would be akin to a Prairie Fire)I think I may have a rare strain of penguin flu. (induced from air conditioning during these last few hot days) And, as a grand side effect, my severe cold & cough formula makes me too twitchy to sleep.
Yes, blatant supplication for sympathy. Or, more like post-midnight boredom. :\
Aww, sorry Cosmic Sher! I had a nasty cold/flu/something last week and I kicked its butt with echinacea and raspberry tea. Also anise tea is far more effective than cough medicine (for me anyway) for clearing out your lungs and getting some sleep. Feel better soon!So today I learned that perpetual motion and the 'free lunch' are the only technologies from Star Wars and Star Trek for which scientists don't have a metaphysical theory. Time travel, light sabers, star ships, etc... all theoretically possible.
I also learned that adding wine to hot oil and bisto onion crumbs is a good way to cause a fire rather than a nice sauce.

Today I learned that a double shot of 151 proof rum is an effective cure for a hangover. (Straight back to sleep).
anise tea is far more effective than cough medicineI'll have to try this Lylly, because I'm allergic (or sensitive as doctors like to correct) to cough meds - they make me higher than a kite, and not in a nice way. Thanks!
I've heard of perpetual motion, but what is 'free lunch'? We watched a fun show on Discovery Channel a while back that talked about all the technologies in Star Trek that inspired actual technology in the real world. It was really cool.
A 'free lunch' is getting something for nothing, so finding a way to power the city with a drop of water or achieving nuclear fusion. The physicist being interviewed had this to say about companies spending money to figure out 'a free lunch', 'there's a sucker born every minute.' Also, anise tea takes a lot like black licorice so you may love that... but most people find the taste pretty foul.
I actually really like black licorice, and often take a form of it for stomach problems when they sneak up on me. So, a tea of it won't be so bad.So, free lunch is what we normally think of it as... as in "there's no such thing". Makes sense to me. :)

it is strong.funny thing when I take it, I generally get better but it morphs my voice into a deep husky sexy thing--
When rocking the boat, always do so from the safety of a larger vessel.(This has nothing to do with Jessica's husky voice, I know, nor the dubious benefits of Nyquil, but I felt it was important to get the word out asap.)
I learned last night that if I should eat curry, I should brush my teeth immediately afterwards, v. thoroughly. I say this only because I fell asleep on the couch after I ate dinner and woke to a seriously funky taste in my mouth... and thought something really, REALLY bad had happened to me. It freaked me out at first. It took me a few minutes to figure out what the taste was.
Yesterday I learned that even if I'm in a rush to get out of the house and take my daughter to daycare and get myself on the train to work, I need to remember to let my dog out just for a few minutes, because if my dog doesn't get to go out and poop, she'll find a nice spot in the spare bedroom to poop.
You're telling me. At the same time I was cleaning up doggy poop, my 2-yr-old daughter, who was getting a bath, decides to poop in the bathtub.
Talk about a shitty night.

Never again! I kept retasting Indian food all through the reading! Not so good on the rebound...I'm amazed I got through it unharmed.
I almost always read on an empty stomach now.
Our Wii Active arrived a couple of days ago. Zu made a curry for dinner (Thai, not Indian, but relatively on topic), and an hour or so later we decided to test the new toy. I have never exercised to the point of vomiting before, but for the first time I came damn close. It was the combination of heavy food and a pretty significant workout. I didn't think it would push me that hard.
I will be more careful in the future.
What mondegreen means because Heidi used it in a different thread. Thanks Heidi.

Thanks Larry, on the list it will go.
I just learned that they're making a sequel to Heathers. I can't remember which thread we were using to invent lyrics to the musical version...Ryder says ‘Heathers’ sequel is happening
Winona Ryder, star of cult classic “Heathers,” says there’s another more of the story to tell. “Whatever you hear, there is a sequel in the works. ” she told Us Weekly. Co-star Christian Slater — whose character blew himself up in the original — will return as “a kind of Obi-Wan character.” ZAP2IT.COM

in kokomo, IN some hilljack folks (all friends of mine) will say "my cadillac convertor on my '73 ford econoline van is messed up and that's why she smells like eggs when i drive her"def one...
Trust me, guys, you wouldn't know the person who has this video. In the interests of protecting himself, who's also in the video, he has sworn in blood never to upload that video.

WHAAAT!!?! OMG, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'll have to sit on it for a while.
I can't swing 2 1/2 hours of sleep like I did in college. No friggin way... I'm getting too old for this sh!t.
I was on the flight from Hell last night from Denver to Omaha -- packed solid and screaming jumping bouncing little kids in every seat around me. Don't get me wrong, I love kids. But jeesh! The batteries in my noise-cancelling headphones were dead. So I had to turn the music up louder to drown out the din.Fortunately it was only an hour-long flight.
And Heidi ... trust me on this ... it will only get more like that as you age.
Heidi wrote, Dangit. So Jaime doesn't have access to it... or Scott? >
Nope, and nope.
Seriously, it's not worth watching, unless you want to see me bleary-eyed and all hopped up on bourbon.

Larry wrote: "And Heidi ... trust me on this ... it will only get more like that as you age."Larry, I know this. That's exactly why I'm typically early to bed. Last night was the exception... and it'll be a LONG time before I do it again.
Here we are! Sometimes we go buck wild and even FIGHT about the correct grammar and syntax.
