message 1202: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished [image error] and really liked Gena Showalter's story, Maggie Shayne's was just ok, and really didn't like Susan Krinard's. I'm now reading [image error] and loving it!!

I felt the same way about The Iron Hunter. I just couldn't seem to get into it.

I'll agree with you both about that series. It was one I tried and couldn't get into.

I'm reading Iron Hunt at the moment. I had to stop when I found out there was a prequel which I've now read, Iron Hunt is making more sense now but I'm still finding it difficult to read.

I am a fan of Martinez. Let us know how you like it. :)

Well I finished this one and have to say that I was disappointed. For me it did not live up to the synopsis on the back. Too bad because there was great potential. At this point I don't know that I will check out other books by this same author.

message 1209: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 188 comments NOW READING In the Night Garden (The Orphan's Tales, #1) by Catherynne M. Valente

message 1210: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments I had heard Martinez compared to Christopher Moore, and I didn't care for him. I think this is just the kind of book that isn't for me, but it doesn't mean that others won't love him.

message 1211: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Sometimes I like to talk to people who have a totatlly opposite opinion of mine on a book. I love hearing how what made me "buy" into the book is the same thing that made them hate it. It doesn't matter whatever it is, I just think it is interesting.

message 1212: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I finished [image error] , which I really liked except for the cliffhanger. I felt like almost nothing was explained. Now reading Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater . I'm only about 80 pages in, but it has REALLY sucked me in!

message 1213: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments Shannon,

I read Martinez's Gil's All Fright Diner and had a similar reaction: it wasn't for me. Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez Same with the Xanth books and horror of horrors --- The Hitchiker's Guide...
But I love Spider Robinson's Callahan boks...

Whatever. I'm reading and liking Greywalker, the first in Richardson's series about Harper Blaine, a P.I. who can see ghosts. (There was quite a good novella about this character in Mean Streets.) I got books #2 & #3 from the library, but I don't feel in hurry to read them, right now... Greywalker (Greywalker, Book 1) by Kat Richardson

message 1214: by Bookworms (new)

Bookworms | 10 comments I write "Kiss of Shadows" from Laurell K. Hamilton and was very surprised how good this book is.

I love the Anita Blake series, but the Meredith series seems to be very good, too :-)

I just didn't like the Greywalker books. Something about the main character.

message 1216: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 822 comments Count me in as another one who couldnt' get into the Greywalker books. I liked the guy who she called that seemed to do everything more than the main character.

I just picked up Black Magic Sanction (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #8) by Kim Harrison and will be starting that tonight.

message 1217: by Elena (new)

Elena I finished First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost. I was very dissapointed with it :(

message 1218: by Darcy (new)

message 1220: by Shelley (new)

Shelley Potts Bosler | 4 comments Elena wrote: "I finished First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost. I was very dissapointed Bwith it :("

Really why did you not like it? I assume because it was not as tension starved as the Cat & Bones series

That it definitely part of it. But I also found the whole plot bland, and I couldn't stand Denise's whinning.

message 1224: by Chrissy315 (new)

Chrissy315 Jones | 15 comments I'm reading The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk . Both are really good really enjoying both of them.

message 1225: by Mick (new)

Mick (mickanick) | 14 comments Currently reading the latest Kim Harrison book, Black Magic Sanction (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #8) by Kim Harrison . So far so good, but I'm worried that she's falling into Laurell K. Hamilton's trap of the "super character" whose abilities just grow and grow and too many men who are secretly (or not so secretly) in love with her.

message 1226: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I have been reading series on and off for a year. I have let a pile of other books pile up on my table for a while, so I am starting of those. I am reading the Queen's Dollmaker now.

Amanda (aeriga) I just finished Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) by J.R. Ward and im going to read Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward next. I really just want to finish the series before all the new books for 2010 come out :)

Adam, Eve of Destruction is on my dropped shelf. Awful.

message 1236: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I just finished Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. Really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of the True Blood series so I thought it was about time I read the books! I'm now reading In Over Her Head (Tritone Trilogy, #1) by Judi Fennell by Judi Fennell

message 1237: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Finished Soulless which I loved. Read Cheryl St. John's Her Colorado Man which was very sweet. That's two from my piles, but I received Fantasy in Death by J.D. Robb. I am starting that tonight. I can resist anything but temptation.

message 1238: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Currently reading Where Angels Fear to Tread (Remy Chandler, #3) by Thomas E. Sniegoski . I like this series!

I LOVE this series and hardly ever see it mentioned on any of the boards. Glad to find someone else reading it! I'm really looking forward to the next one, Bring On The Night (WVMP Radio, #3) by Jeri Smith-Ready .

message 1246: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I just finished Blackout by Connie Willis and loved it!!! Loved it so much I'm making bangers and mash for dinner tonight! (It's set in England during World War II and it's brilliant.) (But it's only half done-- the other half will be out in the fall.)

Next up is Underground by Kat Richardson, #3 in her Harper Blaine series. Underground (Greywalker, Book 3) by Kat Richardson

message 1247: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just finished Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost I am now moving on to One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, #2) by Jeaniene Frost

message 1248: by Regina (last edited Mar 07, 2010 02:01PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Katie I really like the series. I was worried that I was bored with the genre, because I had started Guilty Pleasures and it was not pulling me in. But 2 pages into this series and I was hooked. I like how utterly flawed Cat is but Bones just loves her. I liked to see how her evolution of her prejudice is resolved. I am so upset *********spoiler*******

they are not together though!!!!! Excited to see what happens in #2. I just found out that (is it #5?) won't be out until 2011 but there will be a short story released in an anthology this summer in Death's Excellent Vacation by Charlaine Harris

message 1249: by Valorie (new)

Valorie I finished Midnight Rising (Midnight Breed, #4) by Lara Adrian and loved it! I'm now moving on to Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger

message 1250: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Fire and listening to Kitty Raises Hell. I am now listening to Territory and cross stitching while I listen. I don't think that I could get through Territory if I were reading it. Very slow paced and overly descriptive (for my tastes), but well written. The book is 320 pages and the audiobook is 13 hours. Maybe the readers are just extra slow. The Kitty book's audios are around 8 hours unabridged.
