The French used is Cajun French and not "Paris" French. That could be some of the problem?

Also listening to Jaws by Peter Benchley on audiobook on my way to/from work. The author did/does an incredible job of capturing a "vacation" town in crisis and a marriage in crisis. It was hard to turn off my car this morning to come in to work!

Yeah, I like the the books. They are definitely kids books, but they have a good plot, so they're easy to stay interested in.

Then I read the novellas by Charlaine Harris & Ilona Andrews in Must Love Hellhounds. The Harris novella was about two bodyguards on a parallel world named Clovache and Batanya, that I didn't recognize, but was fine. The Andrews story was about Andrea and Raphael. I liked reading more about them. I looked at the novellas by Nalinia Singh and Meljean Brook and they didn't sing to me, so I didn't read them.
Now I'm reading and loving A Kiss Before the Apocalypse by Thomas E. Sniegoski.
Hopefully I will het to Gil's All Fright Diner by the end of the month.

It seems to me that Clovache & Batanya appeared in one of the Sookie books, but I can't remember which one. Or maybe they were in another of her short stories. I'm so glad you're enjoying

Yes they were in From Dead to Worse, they were the cards for one of the kings, can't remember which one....

Oh that's a good one Anne! Totally crazy!:)

You're still reading the "good" Anita books! I liked BLOODY BONES.

I loved this--I think I even liked it more than Graceling--they're both great books.

I know you directed this to Melodie, but I thought I"d give my .02 too ;) I wouldn't necessarily say they plummet, I just think some of them go in a very weird direction. Some of them take her away from all her men which makes me sad cuz I love her men, and then some of them are the exact opposite and are nothing but her men and take her away from her work as an animator or working with the police. LKH for some reason abondonded the happy medium. But I still love the series as a whole, even tho I'm just over halfway through.....

I'm fanatical. Don't blame your memory.

When the "ardeur" takes front & center stage, the books start going to s**t, IMHO. The series hangs together for a book or 2, but then..........I don't know. When you have difficulty finding the plot because Anita's getting her freak on, upside down, inside out and sideways it gets boring.

I'm halfway through with

Bloody Bones was one of the great ones.
I am still a big fan of Anita. In the most recent one she gets a little back to her roots. :)
Anne, I'm also sorry to say I may have to give up on Good Omens for awhile. I have other books I KNOW will hold my interest. I'm going to give it till Monday. If I can't finish it I'll try again in a few months! lol

I just ordered Graceling from the library and am very excited. It looks great.

And although I am disappointed by the way Laurell K. Hamilton's books have gone, I still find myself needing to pick up the next and am planning a trip to the bookstore tomorrow for the next Merry Gentry book. The first two of that series were the strongest and helped inspire me to start writing. Not because of her craft ability, but just because of how interesting it was to mix fae and contemporary settings.
I just picked up my copy of Club Dead by Charlaine Harris and so far it's really good. I'm also reading Insomnia by Stephen King, if anyone has read it how did you like it?

Melissa, I think I'm one or two books behind you! I can't stop reading them, either!
Levi, Club Dead is one of my favorite Sookie books! Enjoy!

You need to read Dreamfever! I can't wait till you finish it! It is soooooo good!

I read at least the first 2 Weather Wardens books. I liked the first one okay, but after that it was hard to stay interested. I also love the Morganville books and can't wait to pick up FADE OUT on Tuesday!

Michelle,
Thanks for the tip, I joined. I was surprised to see so many of the books I like being discussed, I hadn't necessarily considered them primary romance novels. I don't get the whole classification thing anyway so I suppose i shouldn't be surprised.... Thanks again.

Starting A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1) (can't wait!) as soon as I finish up Jane Eyre. I've only got about 100 pages of Jane left, so I shoud be able to get started on my first Meredith Gentry book soon. I've been feeling a little left out!

Dawn, there is a fine line between Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance, for me the difference is whether or not the romance part of the book gets a HEA (happily ever after) or if you are left hanging in the romance dept until the next book in the series.
UF's build up the sexual tension and chase over many books in the series, until you are like "would you just do it already!!!" LOL. You will also notice that a lot of the PNR series have different main characters in each book (like the BDB) because the author gives each character a HEA in their book.
But like I said, there is a fine line between the 2 genres, and you will find both being discussed in UF & PNR groups.

I really hope you enjoy the Merry series!
I started Dreamfever during my lunch break today and didn't want to stop! I can't wait to get home and read some more! So glad I threw stuff in the crock-pot today so I don't have to cook!! More reading time...

Laura,
Thanks for the AHHHHHHAAAAAA moment. Your explanation was great- I think i get it now *no longer scratching head* it actually makes sense to me. I might just go evaluate my entire library just to prove to myself I can!

UF doesn't always have a strong romantic element. Jim Butcher and Simon R. Green are good examples of UF without the sexy edge.
