I'm sure it's the same with getting approval on Netgalley though in each publisher may looks for something different. Some people say if you know something is coming out and really want it that it doesn't hurt to contact them and just ask either, worst you would get would be a no.
Carrie reviews more than anyone I know. This one was kinda random, didnt remember asking for it. But I figured it out, came from one of those shelf awareness emails where I entered for an ARC from one of the ads on the email. Do you get those Carrie?

This is the website http://www.shelf-awareness.com sign up for the professionals newsletter and they'll send you emails about the book world. Pretty much every email offers an arc. Sometimes it's something I want, sometimes it isn't. They just offered

LOL I really have had random ones show up that i have no idea where in the world they found me. I suppose though they could get my address through Netgalley.

Oh and if interested in physical ARCs one site to keep an eye on is https://www.bookishfirst.com/ They run a lotto type of system where you submit a "review" of a sneak peek for a chance to win the whole book where most of them are physical, a few are digital though but they are clearly marked.
