That's okay, Chrissie. I'm sorry you disliked it that much. I saw more hope in the story than the brutality and I saw the horses as (view spoiler).

I finished reading London Under: The Secret History Beneath the Streets last night. Although it had some interesting chapters, in all, I found the book lacking in depth. I'll read more by this author but this book needed more time and detail to bring out the best of the Underground.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

A very long one, but so "enthrilling" that you read it without effort - even if describing tragic happenings, and a terrible attitude toward life in general.
If you are not scared by lengh, READ IT!

Tracey, I liked both of those as well. I look forward to your thoughts. These are the only 3 Nevil Shute books I've read and all were really enjoyable.

Is it important to read the entire The Raj Quartet before this? The one you read draws my attention more.I have only read the first - The Jewel in the Crown.
