I know all about that phenomenon, I often forget to change my settings to English when I type on my German phone, and oh my, the stuff that auto correct comes up with when being challenged by an English text...I'd say it is material for an experimental novel.

Let's give it a try!
Let's give it a try!
Hi!! First of all thanks LauraT for inviting me in this group: there is a lot of people from different countries, that's great!! I'm Simona and I'm from Italy too, where I live with my boyfriend and my two dogs (but they are not really dogs: one day they will became real children, like Pinocchio, I know that!! =D).I'm addicted to reading challenges and reading groups, even if I usually fail in both of them (expecially in reading groups, I never follow the time schedule!). Most of all I love children literature and fantasy, but I'm basically an omnivorous reader and I like reading everything and trying different generes.
Hi Simona, lovely name. It's nice to meet you, I'm Alannah and welcome to the group. I know what you mean I'm addicted to the reading challenge as well. haha, I hope to see you around the group threads.
Welcome SiMo! Glad you came!!!
You'll see we read all sort of books here. Have a look around and look for someone to read along with you something you were thinking of!!!

Welcome Simona! I recognize your feeling about your dogs - my cat is my child too :) Reading challenges here are more about inspiring people to read something different so we are pretty relaxed about time schedules...
Hi Simona, I love that your dogs are going to become real children one day. I'm from England and am dipping in and out of threads as work and family permit. Have fun!
Hi Maggie, welcome to the group! Feel free to join in any of the discussion threads - there are lots of recommendations there!
Welcome Maggie! Cumbria is very high on my places-to-visit list :)Ciao SiMo! Nice to see so many Italian girls joining the group!
Welcome Maggie. I love the Lake District, very jealous you get to live there!
Welcome Maggie! How lucky to live in such a renown place! This sommer I went to see the Peack District because, exactly as Elisabeth Bennets and her aunt and ancle, I didn't have the time to get so north!!!! Next tripp, then.
Hey Maggie welcome to the club! I hope you have a blast reading and discussing your good reads with us! ^_^
Hello, I'm Victoria. I live in South Wales, but I'm from East Anglia. I joined from the Perks group and I hope to contribute more. My favourite genres are gothic, classics, and historical fiction. This year I've been reading more American fiction and I've really enjoyed A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as the John Steinbeck books that I've read. I'd like to read more world fiction and Russian literature too.
Hey Victoria, welcome to the all about books book club. I'm Amber from Tennessee,USA. I hope you enjoy your stay and have a great time reading for pleasure! Do you like Stephen King? He is a great author to read for American Horror fiction especially Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary, and The Stand. Those are some pretty good reads from him. When I first started his books back in 2011, I started with his book The Eyes of the Dragonand got me hooked to read a few of his books a year.
Welcome Victoria! I read To Kill a Mockingbird for the first time this year and loved it. As for works in translation or world lit, here's a post from yesterday that might be of interest. And feel free to join our readalong of The Death of Ivan Ilych by Tolstoy in December.

Was it good?
@ Vicann, the mention of 'world fiction' in your intro clings well. I am a person who goes to different countries and different cultures via the important fiction. And that journey had always been very economical and highly satisfactory. Presently planning to move from Italian literature to German literature.Nice to have you here.
Welcome Victoria! I'd like to read more world lit & Russian literature as well - maybe we can read some together.
Thank you for the welcomes :)@ Amber, I've read a couple of Stephen King books a while ago and enjoyed them. These were The Shining, Carrie, and Rose Madder. I'll look into the ones that you've suggested, so thank you.
@ Jenny, thanks for the link and the Tolstoy readalong sounds good to me!
@ Leslie, I'll happily take part in other readalongs for Russian and world literature. I'm keen to broaden my horizons in these genres!
@ Elaine, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was an enjoyable book to read because of the beautiful characterisation, particularly the descriptions of their quirks. It's now one of my all-time favourites!
@Victoria - I know that several of us are planning on reading The Death of Ivan Ilych in December. Do you have anything in particular that you want to read?
Leslie - I'm open to suggestions. The December group read sounds good to me. I've got Anna Karenina and The Bothers Karamazov on my bookshelf to be read at some point and I'd like to read some Solzhenitsyn.

The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment are on my to-read list but probably not until winter. Rereading this I see that for some reason winter is my preferred Russian reading time - somehow that seems appropriate for the Russian climate :)
I find Dosto much more complicated to read than Tolstoj. I'm really looking forward to read together in december - I still have to look for it!
@ Laura T and the other moderators: Why don't we begin a separate section for world literature with many threads for the particular country's literature?
It would be quite a big project, but I'd really quite like it. If we really do the '100 Best Novels' written in English language (...see Books in the News or Ask the Moderators thread) it would be a nice counter-point. Personally I would love to read more world lit and I think a lot of others do as well. Maybe we can mull it over a little and think about how best to do it ( if more of us would be interested) ?@ Leslie: I adored Crime and Punishment and The Brother Karamasov! A friend of mine once called the latter 'The Bible of all things human' and I am tempted to agree.

Yes indeed. But you can't sat it's an easy going read!!!

If it gets busy we can then start branching out into continents.
Coming to you all, hat in hand, hoping for a little corner of the internet to chat up some good books with some good people. I'm a writer and editor with opinions that get me in trouble more often than not. So, am I in?
