Which LIST book did you just start?
Girl with Green Eyes by Edna O'Brien and The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin (audiobook). Long term read (started in January) -- The Tale of Genji.

Did you know that was the best-selling novel ever in the U.S. at the time, the 1st to sell a million copies? Not many read it in recent times though.

Mia wrote: "I started listening Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe."I wouldn't argue the placement of that book on the list, but for me, it would be there for its historical value rather than its literary qualities. I'll be interested in your opinion when you finish, as it's been a looooong time since I read it.
Starting Mao II by Don DeLillo. It's my first book by him--I grabbed this a long time ago at a library sale. I'm hoping to finally read it and treasure it forever, or read it and clear some space off my bookshelves. Either way, it's a win/win

I do agree whit you why this book is on the list, but I'm gonna give you better opinion after I've read it :D
And I started The Devil's Pool by George Sand, which I've almost finished.
Starting Wide Sargasso Sea. I finished Jane Eyre a few weeks ago, so it seems only appropriate to read this now.

Now that you bring it up, that sounds for some reason like an absolutely excellent choice for a couple to read.
Started The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin. Very interesting so far. Political science fiction in general seems to be a good cross.
Diane wrote: "Starting One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez."I hope that you have more joy with than I did.
If Not Now, When? By Primo LeviStarted it this morning on my quest to read all the past books picked. Last book that was chosen in 2008 and I can move on to 2009. I really am enjoying this book so far!

I might try that approach next time I'm wondering what to read :-)

I'm about 80% through it and enjoying it.

I didn't even know there was a film of this--I'll check it out. Thanks!

I assume you saw the newer film with Helen Mirren? I see there's an older film too--I thought maybe I could get the older one on youtube, but all I found was a short clip.
I'm "reading" Clarissa as well as Mysteries of Udolpho. Poor Clarissa! It's bad enough being a teen without obnoxious siblings. If my brother had treated me that way, I'd have made his life a living hell! As for Emily, of Mysteries of Udolpho, I had to patiently wait for the book to get good and creepy. It finally has, and I'm loving it! I play crackling fireplace with thunderstorm and howling winds as well as "sinister" music. Gotta love youtube!I'm studying and currently transferring marginal notes from a 1000 page 2016 reference book to a 2017 edition. Imagine how fascinating this job is! Having trouble staying awake, I began listening to audio books. I used to regard audio books as cheating. Not only as speeding through books, but also as being unfaithful to my books. Not anymore. This easy way of enjoying books can never replace the pleasure of turning pages or the wonderful aroma of the paper. Listening has made my work bearable.

My reading is at least 5 x faster than listening to an audio. I'm glad you've come around to the joys of audiobooks though. A good book read by a good reader can be just magical.

I have read Queer (which wasn't too bad), The Wild Boys (awful), and one that isn't one the 1001 list.
