I've started Cranford, which is about women behaving so correctly it's terrible and Bel-Ami which is about a bad man behaving so incorrectly it's likewise.
I've just started reading Uncle Tom's Cabin for my book club where I make people read through this list ;)I'm really enjoying the style and writing so far even thought it's a rough subject matter!
I started The Blind Owl, and am struggling to get through the introduction. I often skip intros to American and British novels because I have read widely from those countries, know a fair amount of history, etc. I know very little about Iran and Persian history and nothing of this author, but UGH this intro is pretentious, exhausting, and long. Th book itself has got to be better.

The number of times I've seen spoilers in them... Especially for other books. I guess they don't think it counts if they blurt out crucial plot points for other novels the author has written if it isn't actually the one you are currently holding.
I didn't realize Lost Illusions by de Balzac was on the list. I finished the first two parts, and on to part three. I thought it was going to be a boring read, but I've gotten into it!
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick and Some Experiences of an Irish R.M by Edith Somerville.
I've just started reading The Bell by Iris Murdoch as it was highly recommended by my Mum, seems intriguing so far...

Fight Club - I'm about a 5th of the way through, enough to know that the movie was a fantastic adaption. It captured the feeling of the novel perfectly.
The Mysteries of Udolpho - After reading Northanger Abbey for the umptenth time I decided it was finally time to read this as well!
Started Rebecca by Daphne De Maurier, only 1 chapter in but it seems good already, im excited to read this as it has such a high goodreads score & im a massive Hitchcock fan
Just started A Sentimental Journey by Laurence Sterne. It may be the perfect complement to The Professor by Charlotte Brontë. The latter is a side read that I'm reading to complete the canon.
Rites of Passage by William Golding and The Underdogs: Pictures and Scenes from the Present Revolution: a Translation of Mariano Azuela's Los De Abajo, With Related Texts by Mariano Azuela.
Mia wrote: "Rites of Passage by William Golding and [book:The Underdogs: Pictures and Scenes from the Present Revolution: a Translation of Mariano Azuela's Los De Abajo, With Related ..."Cricky that's a long title!
I'm reading Rites of Passage by Golding and I'm not really liking it, so I started Summer by Edith Wharton.
Sarah wrote: "Starting The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë."I love that one! Deserves a better reputation than it has!
Diane wrote: "Contact by Carl Sagan."Excellent book, but I do wonder why it's on the list. But you won't be sorry to read it.
Dree - why are you struggling? I haven't read it yet, am interested what makes it difficult for you.
It is overly descriptive yet nothing happens. An entire page about drawing a hopscotch game and then jumping through. One person going one time. YAWN!

Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ - The first section with the 3 wise men was a trial but it's improved a little now we are past that very tedious introduction.I'm also finally reading Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy after putting it off for about a year.
