The Making of Americans by Gertrude Stein. Get me through this... Not my favorite author.

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 48 comments I'm trying to get into the audiobook of Cloudsplitter, by Russell Banks. I had to increase the playback speed to 1.5 already to avoid falling asleep or losing attention completely.

Not my favorite either.

I started A Severed Head by Iris Murdoch. I've had an idea in my head that I wouldn't like Murdoch (have no idea why) so I haven't read her before. I'm really liking this so far.

I had this idea too before reading her. But I was so wrong. I've read 3 of her books now and they were all really good. A Severed Head is still on my shelf, but I hope to get to it soon.

I loved The Sea The Sea by Murdoch. I was surprised at how emotional it made me feel after I had finished.

Tomorrow I will start Alamut by Bartol of Slovenia, a fairly long one, and finish The Art of Fielding.
I don't think I said that I'm also reading The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis (Nocturnalux tells me the last name is pronounced rather like "Reyes").

The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante, the fourth in the 4-book series (& only one in Boxall list).
This and its predecessor, Those Who Leave..., are the only fairly new fiction books I've read in the past year.

Jennifer W | 251 comments I've been a bit MIA on the 1001 books bandwagon (though to be fair, pretty much all of my reading dropped off a cliff the last 2 months...). But I'm back! Last night I started Middlesex and I'm already liking it. I hope to return to Les Miserables in the new year. I also got Tipping the Velvet for Christmas, so hopefully get to that soon, too!

Angela Ketcham | 7 comments I’m still reading The Woodlanders. I stopped a couple times to read a few non-list books in between. Lol

Elise F (elise_literaryhabitat) | 16 comments I just started my 206th read from the combined list - Walter Scott’s Rob Roy. To anyone who has read it - should I read the huge introduction by the author at the start of the book, or is it not necessary?
