DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Ooh yes, Adrienne, you have to read them. The series is in my top 5. Mmm... Bones... ;)

Jess | 3721 comments Bones.. wow. That's all I can say. I hope the next one is a little less dark though. I want happy Bones and Cat lol.

first chapter of DFAEG!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Yeah, I read that the other day. Looks awesome! =D

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the link that's at the top of the the thread that we've all been incoherently grunting and babbling about :)

message 17: by Laura (new)

Laura | 97 comments Grunt...Me likey... Grunt

message 18: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Grunting and babbling, huh? Oh, what she's reduced us to.

I have to say, I'm also looking forward to Spade's book. She said it's her first stab at third person point of view, so it should be interesting to see how her writing shifts for the task.

It's funny...I love this series now, but the beginning of the first book--it almost killed me to read it. And she comments on some one of the blogs how people kept telling her to drop most of the beginning chapters of book one. But once Bones came on the scene, I was completely pulled in, and everything since then has been solid.

So, advice to anyone who's new to the series: if you're reading the first book and not sure about it, wait for Bones! The character development undergoes a vast improvement once he's introduced.

Did anyone else feel that way with book one?

message 19: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments She's writing a book about Spade? That will be great!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments There isn't much information on the book yet, but this is it: First Drop of Crimson

message 21: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I think she's waiting on her editor's revision letter for Crimson, so she hasn't released much about it yet. I really liked Spade from the beginning so I'm looking forward to it. I think after that she's doing Marchese...or whatever his name is. I'm pulling a blank on the spelling...

message 22: by DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (last edited May 20, 2009 10:55PM) (new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Mencheres? Really. Hmm... I'm sure it will be good, but I must admit I can think of other characters I'd rather read about.

message 23: by DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (last edited May 20, 2009 10:56PM) (new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Ooh, she's posted a snippet from Crimson on her blog - Caught up...for now
*** She warns that it contains spoilers for the book, so don't read if you want to be surprised!

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Ooh, so I'm wondering about this girl with no name. The fact that she has kept the name a secret leads me to believe it's someone we've met in the Cat books. But I can't really think of any prominent female characters in the Cat books other than her mom, and her friend Denise (that's her name, right?). Anybody care to speculate, or would you rather keep it a surprise? (I'm pretty sure it's not Cat's mom, by the way.) ;)

message 25: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments hmmm.... I could see it being Denise. I mean, it's obviously is a human that understands about vamps, and you are right. The fact that she's keeping the name a secret is a big deal! Also, when I first read that snippet, I wasn't thinking about Denise. But I was wondering if it was a woman who has had her heart broken. Just the vibe that I got from a few comments. If it's Denise, she has had her heart broken. And you're right, there is no way that it's Cat's mom!

The only reason that I think maybe it's not denise is the comment that Spade makes about how she was filling herself full of Garlic to make sure that he didn't bite her. Well, hasn't she been around Vamps enough to not be freaked about like that?

message 26: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I have to back track, but I've a niggly thought in my head that she said it wasn't Denise...

I could be wrong though. I know Denise has been speculated about even before this as being Spade's future match since he minded her after the drama in the last book.

Thanks, DarkHeart for Mencheres' name. I could NOT think of it!

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Well, Frost said in that blog pot that she wasn't going to say who it is, or who it isn't. So I'm guessing she didn't say it wasn't Denise, though maybe she did awhile back and then forgot? Who knows. But if it isn't, I don't know who it would be. The number of human women in those books, or women in general, is very very low.

message 28: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Hmn, I'm probably remembering incorrectly...

Oh, well!

message 29: by DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (last edited May 20, 2009 11:03PM) (new)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments I like Denise for the female as well. Especially as she seems to have lost someone - when she reflects on her attraction to him. Very interesting... =)

message 30: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I'm looking forward to this one, too!

message 31: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Wow, the new one is coming out in July. I totally forgot about this one. I wonder if she's going to make it less dark and more sexy lol. The last one had less Bones than I liked.

Lenore (lenorenrr) | 205 comments I agree. I love Bones!

I actually hope not! I love love love how much action she puts in her books!!

I just love this author! Yes there is a romantic interest with her and Bones but it doesnt take away from the story and the asskicking and the other character development. I really love that about Frost so much.
I honestly feel that if she put more romance/sexy stuff in her books it would turn into PNR. And while I LOVE me some PNR, I read Frost because its more UF without so much romance and sex.
Don't get me wrong, this woman can write a sex scene and they ARE in her books.. but its just enough to be awesome and the rest of the book is pure action plot! I like that :D
I think right now, because of how well she holds her plots together she is my favorite author for this genre.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) See, for me it's the opposite - I like Frost because her books are such a good blend of PNR and UF. I think there's way more romance in her books than most urban fantasy, and it was the romance that hooked me.

I was disappointed in the last book because I thought it had too much action. Although it wasn't the action itself that bothered me as much as the way everything else (particularly the development of both the plot and the secondary characters) suffered because of it.

I agree with you NIchole. I missed the interactions between the characters, and to see Cat so upset over Bones "dying" that was really heartbreaking to see. I hope she changes it next time.

message 36: by ♥Tricia♥ (last edited Jul 03, 2009 07:08AM) (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments Hmm I dunno, I think Frost does an excellent job with the characters.. As you can really feel the emotion that Bones and Cat put off.. it doesn't seem fake or rushed and I think it has something to do with her story not shoving too much romance stuff in the mix.

Because when something happens between the two romantically it means something and because there isn't a ton in her books you get more of an emotional reaction from it.

That's how I see it anyhow. Since I do read other romance novels and they are usually littered with so many romance scenes that you lose the plot and the sex doesn't mean as much..

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I agree that she does a great job with Cat and Bones. They are both fantastic characters and I've fallen in love with both of them.
It's the secondary characters that fall flat for me. Cat's mom seems more like a caricature than a fully fleshed out human being, and characters like Denise and Randy are less than one dimensional. They're almost like part of the scenery, which makes it difficult to care when certain events take place involving them.

message 38: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments Ya Denise and Randy are bleh..

But the mom, now I do like her, hated her in the beginning though.

I think Frost did a good job with developing the mother.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Well, I thought she started to develop the mother in book 3, it looked like she was kind of following an arc and becoming more fleshed out, and then at the end she just went right back to where she started.

message 40: by ♥Tricia♥ (new)

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 132 comments I think she did ok with the mother hehe, she has to have some sort of animosity with bones after all :P What are mother in laws if they are all nice? :D

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Well, that's true. :)

message 42: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I like some of the story about the mom, but I wish that I did understand her a bit better. She seems to change her opinion on things so quickly. And she hates vamps, but she'll sleep with a goul? I just don't get her sometimes!

message 43: by Kelley Anne (last edited Jul 11, 2009 10:51PM) (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments So, just to backtrack to a conversation we had on here a couple of months ago. I read some more info about her new book with Spade, First Drop of Crimson. She is supposed to have another snipit from the book at the end of Destined for an Early Grave and supposedly, the female leads name will be in the snippet. So, we will finally know who she is! Anyone want to take bets, lol! J/K

message 44: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Thanks for the info!

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Kelley Anne - I'm betting Denise.

message 46: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I keep thinking Denise too, but then I'm really not too sure.

I am just counting the days until Destined for an Early Grave comes out! In fact, yesterday, I ended up stopping by a few bookstores around where I live, just to see if they might have put it out early, But I guess that was really wishful thinking since it doesn't come out for more than 2 weeks still!

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) If it's not Denise, I can't think of another character we've already met that it could be. And if it's not someone we've already met, then I don't know why she's felt the need to keep it secret. Except to drive us all crazy, I guess. :) And if that was the goal, then she succeeded!

I can't wait for July 28th. I've been waiting for DfaEG for what feels like FOREVER, as well as the next Morgan Kingsley book. My two favorite UF series, and they come out the same day. It's like Christmas!

message 48: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments So did anyone know that in Jeaniene's contribution to the anthology Four Dukes and a Devil, Cat and Bones and Mencheres all appear? I'll have to get my hands on it.

Anyone read it?

message 49: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Is that an anthology that's already been released?

message 50: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Indeed it has. I saw it at Target!
