Betelgeuze | 158 comments I've read Halfway to the Grave some time ago, and i didn't really like it. Problem is i can't remember why i didn't like it. I can't remember much at all about the story other than that the woman is a damphir and that there was a vampire in a cave. So i'm going to read it again to find out why i didn't like it, and if i might like it more this time.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I wasn't crazy about most of the first book either, if that helps any! By the end though, I was interested enough to try the second, and now I'm a fan.

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments Keep with it Betelgeuze, I was like MichelleM, first book I liked OK, but I always read the 2nd just to be sure as the first ones aren't always the best ones, no I'm totally in love with this series! I'm currently reading At Grave's End and boy it starts out action packed!!!

message 54: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments Some new from Frost about her book about Mencheres:

So without further buildup, the title for Mencheres’s novel is ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS and it releases August 2010. Several people have asked me for hints about this book. I can’t say much yet, but I can say that yes, in addition to exploring more of the vampire world with action and intrigue, there’s also a love interest for Mencheres in this novel. Her name is Kira and she’s a new character to the Night Huntress world.

Sounds good! I'm excited for both this book and the one for Spade!

Sounds good to me. I don't like Mencheres very much. Maybe finding out more about him will change that.

message 56: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah i don't like him at all.. I'm not sure I want to read his book.

message 57: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I haven't read the 4th book yet. Is the dislike based on something from there, or just his overall...passivity?

message 58: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Michelle M. wrote: "I haven't read the 4th book yet. Is the dislike based on something from there, or just his overall...passivity?"

I just don't like him for general purposes. He's pretty much a user and an asshole!

message 59: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Lol. Noted!

message 60: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I'm actually really intrigued with finding out more about him. Yes, I agree that he does seem to use people, but we see so little of him and nothing really along the lines of his motivations. So, I think that it could be interesting. The one that I am really looking forward to is Spade's book! I really like him!

message 61: by Denell (new)

Denell | 17 comments How come nobody is mentioning Vlad??? I love Vlad, I hope he gets a book soon!!

message 62: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Denell, I only just finished Destined, and now I'm really loving Vlad too.

Sleepover with Drac!

message 63: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments Yeah I just finished Destined too and I do really like Vlad too!! I hope he gets his own book in her new series!

message 64: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I love Vlad, he's an awesome character. I would love to read about him in his own book.

message 65: by FlibBityFLooB (new)

FlibBityFLooB | 0 comments I loved some of the Vlad scenes with Bones in Destined. Especially the phone call one -- and when Bones shows up at Vlad's. Hehe!

I hope Vlad gets his own book.

message 66: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah, Bones showing up at Vlad's was definitely awesome. I wish they had fought though, just for a little bit :)

message 67: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments Yeah that was great! And I liked when he showed up at the party for Cat and she totally ran over to him and hugged him!! :)

message 68: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments That was a funny scene! You can just imagine what was going through Bones head read then! Vlad is a character that I'd like to see lots more of! He and Spade are my favorite side characters, but I guess I don't have to wait much longer to see more of Spade!

message 69: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 85 comments I wanted to say that I absolutely have fallen in love with Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series! I started reading this series last month with "Halfway to the Grave," and now I'm reading "One Foot in the Grave" both as challenge reads and I'm hooked! I just love the action, humor, characters, plots...well pretty much everything about her writing! Can't wait to read the next books and short stories that are already out, and I definitely can't wait to read her new spin-off series either!

message 70: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 292 comments Ditto Shannon!!

message 71: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Katie - I think the fourth book was even better. Wait until you get to that one!!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments One Foot in the Grave remains my favorite in the series, but I love them all. I really must get to First Drop of Crimson this month - I love Spade and look forward to his story.

message 73: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments FYI Jeaniene Frost is doing a give a way for Unbound or First Drop of Crimson on her website.
http://jeanienefrost.com/2010/03/frid...

I am excited about the short story in unbound, I love Bones and correct me if I am wrong but this is his first POV short story??

message 74: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Yep. The story covers how Bones got banned from New Orleans. It's really a pretty good character study for him. (Plus he's yummy!)

All in all, Unbound is one of my fave anthologies. I liked most everything in it, and that's rare for me.

AHHHH!!!! :) Can't wait, can't wait!!!!

message 78: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments As in a year from now?? That blows, I guess the good news is we do get a book from her in the summer with Mencheres (sp?) so hopefully we can get a Bones/Cat cameo.

message 79: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (audiobookmel) You know, I was disappointed when I heard there would be a delay in getting more Cat & Bones books, but I really liked First Drop of Crimson. I was not a big fan of Spade, but he grew on me in this book. I hope that Mencheres does the same in Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I cannot wait for the next Cat and Bones book.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments Finally....I was just browsing at audible.com and they have Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost available

Now they just need the rest of the series ;-)

Leslie (funlovinlady) | 113 comments DarkHeart "Vehngeance" wrote: "Mencheres? Really. Hmm... I'm sure it will be good, but I must admit I can think of other characters I'd rather read about. "

DarkHeart,
That is exactly what I thought when I hear the next book would be about Mencheres. I pictured him to look like the main villian, from Superman II, with Christopher Reeves. Oh so many years ago.
I really don't know where I got it from, but once it pops in my head, it is so hard to get the picture out.

message 82: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I was checking out JF's website and I came across a partial short story. It is about Cat between the first two books

http://www.frostfans.com/forums/viewt...

message 83: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Thanks for the snippet Dawn. I just finished reading it. It kind of gives me the urge to re-read a book or two. :)

message 84: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Me too Jess I was like I miss the old Cat and Bones :-)

message 85: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) That's cool. I still haven't read the last book... I'm avoiding it because I don't want to have to think about waiting until next year for the next one. My logic is weird if I say so myself!

message 86: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Ellen not at all for a while I used to try and only read a series after it was complete, but now I am enjoying obsessing about the next in a series...sad you know LOL

I do the same thing. I tell myself I won't start until all the books are out, and I just buy them or request them from the library immediately. sigh. It's an addiction really!

message 88: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) I just hate the wait! It kills me! :(

message 90: by Paige (new)

Paige MacGregor (paigefmacgregor) DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE was actually the first Jeaniene Frost book that I read, but I was both enthralled with the characters and impressed with the book's ability to stand apart from its predecessors. I'm working my way backwards through the series now and enjoying every minute of it. I highly recommend reading this book - it's a prime example of exceptional urban fantasy romance!

The Flooze (Michelle M.) wrote: "From Twitter:

message 91: by Paige (new)

Paige MacGregor (paigefmacgregor) The anthology is called UNBOUND and was already released. DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE is the fourth book in the Cat and Bones series! :)

Kelley Anne wrote: "Is that an anthology that's already been released?"

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) I caved! I read Destined For An Early Grave....

:D It was good!

twinfish2 | 21 comments THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE also has a release date of Feb. 22, 2011.

message 95: by Dija (last edited Jun 28, 2010 03:05AM) (new)

Dija I love Frost's writing style. The character development, plot, and, most of all, the witty dialogue, everything is just brilliant. Bones is such an amazing character and he has one of the most charismatic personalities I've ever come across in my books. I can't wait for more books centering on him and Cat. <3

But I dunno what happened with First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost It hardly seems like one of her books, it's so cliched. Can hardly finish it. :/

message 96: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Hardy (lynnhardy) | 2 comments I'm reading Roger Zelazny Prince of Amber series. The book starts off with an amnesiac patient in a modern hospital. A good 1/4 to 1/2 of the book takes place in the modern world before they start to transverse realities to something that is not Earth or Urban related. I assume this is a Urban Fantasy?

message 97: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments I would say that it counts, Lynn. At least the first book does. I haven't read the others yet, so I don't know how much time he spends in Amber vs. on Earth. If it's really all about his time in Amber, then it becomes fantasy.

message 98: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Hardy (lynnhardy) | 2 comments Lynn wrote: "I'm reading Roger Zelazny Prince of Amber series. The book starts off with an amnesiac patient in a modern hospital. A good 1/4 to 1/2 of the book takes place in the modern world befo..."

Wow! I didn't realize that you could have a series where the first book was Urban Fantasy and the next wasn't. That's good to know.

Zelazny's next book spends most of the time in other worlds, so that would then be fantasy.

message 99: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Well, technically, it shouldn't be that way! Having read the first one, I would've categorized it as UF. Overall, I'd have to claim the whole series as fantasy.
