I'm not sure if there are special rules regarding collections or special editions of books, but the current arrangement seems confusing to me.

FIRST:
The 3 individual books from this set are combined with the set collection itself:
http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition...

This means reading Outliers = reading either of the other books, for example, which doesn't make sense. So the individual books share the title of the set and they have no cover images, so it's unclear which book is which unless you compare ISBNs. I think they need to be un-combined so they can be properly combined with the standard single editions.

SECOND:
The individual books should be combined with the standard editions of each book instead of the set.

Hi, I can't delete the newest edition because there is a review, only super-librarians can do that. If I understood right and that's what you really want to do why don't you try this topic: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... They do deletions there. But I've updated the info on the oldest edition. I hope to have helped in some way.

A new addition of two of Ruth Ozeki's books have been released but haven't yet been added to goodreads. So, I have added them. However, it has not added a new edition, but a new book. Apparently, the "combine editions" option is only available to goodreads librarians.

Various languages split books into part books, french particularly. We don't combine them because it was decided a long time ago that it would be inappropriate.

Would you like to only read part of a book when you were expecting the whole book? If a book is split in two it would be combined with other editions that were split in two.

From the Librarian Manual:

The rules for combining book editions are listed below, and are also posted on the right side of the combine page for each author. These rules have been decided as a collaborative effort between the Goodreads staff and the members in the Goodreads Librarians group.

do combine:

. Different publications of the same book.
. Different formats of the book (hardcover, paperback, audio).
. Editions/translations of the book in other languages. Even though many translations differ significantly, we've made the decision to combine them all, and have people note the differences in their reviews.


don't combine:

. 2-in-1 books or boxed sets that include the given book.
. Cliff notes or other works about the given book.

It seems like this edition hasn't been combined with the other editions of Hamlet on purpose. It doesn't have just the play but a collection of critical essays as well and that's why it's separate from the others.
