Sally Chambers (sallychambers) | 3 comments The only one of the Mitford Series I've read is These High, Green Hills and I enjoyed it. I need to read more of them.
I just finished Kristen Lamb's Rise of the Machines: Human Authors in a Digital World. Excellent book, especially if you're faced with the daunting challenge of building the "platform" expected by many publishers when launching a new book these days.

Heather (readingrainbowbrite) | 103 comments I'm reading the Joe Pickett series by CJ Bix but I dont think I'll read them straight through.
I like to read Suzanne Brockmann, Nora Roberts or Diana Palmer when I'm stressed.

I read Kristen Lamb's book too! I didn't quite agree with everything she said, but a lot of it is such great information!

All good authors! I think we like to read authors or books we know we'll enjoy when we're stressed, because we're guaranteed a good read.

Yes, I felt the same way. There were things that I read, disagreed with, and disregarded, but there were many good ideas and info that helped me make decisions on how best to spend time and effort. Especially when I had no clue what things like SEO meant! :-)

Yes, me too! I thought it was really useful to help me to focus and know what to expend my time and energy on.

Julie Graves (gravesok) | 109 comments I don't normally do this, but I am currently reading two books. THE JEDI DOTH RETURN by Ian Doescher is the third book in the Shakespeare and Star Wars series. Amusing and pretty fun reads. The second book is A DEADLY BUSINESS by Lis Wiehl. I'm liking it so far.

It is pretty hilarious. Especially if you get all of the quotes from other sources. And of course you have to start with William Shakespeare's Star Wars the first book in the trilogy. Then The Empire Striketh Back and finally The Jedi Doth Return. Amusing reads from the publisher Quirk Books who put out Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and other such funnies :)

LOVE Mary Stewart! Haven't read Rose Cottage yet, though! Now I have to take it off my shelf and read it next!

message 534: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 88 comments Camy, Rose Cottage is so good! I'm loving it :)

Would you believe this is my first book by her?? I picked it up for $1.25 and also Thornyhold!

Do you have a favorite by her?

message 535: by Camy (new)

Camy (camytang) | 1315 comments Mod
Oooohh I LOVED Thornyhold!!!! The English countryside setting was so amazing, I totally wanted to live there! There's a slight paranormal element to Thornyhold that I also liked, although some Christians don't like secular paranormal elements.

My favorite by far is Airs Above the Ground. The ending is AMAZING and the setting is fantastic. It totally made me look up the horses mentioned in the book. If you can get a copy of it, totally snatch that up. That's one of my all time favorite books.

message 536: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 88 comments I finished Rose Cottage - it was great! :) Adding Airs Above the Ground to my list too!

I took Rose Cottage off my shelf but haven't started reading it yet! I'm trying to finish In the Way by Grace Livingston Hill, which I started a long time ago and completely forgot about. It's not my favorite GLH--it's one of her earlier ones, and the writing is not as elegant as her later books, plus the characters are a bit too perfect for my taste. And I'm highly annoyed because I got an ebook version of this book, published by Sweet Bread Books, and there are tons of typos in the text! It's very distracting.

I know! I do too! It's really awful because then I don't review some of them. Okay, MOST of them. I think I have 100 requests and only 33 reviews. Isn't that awful?

Katherine Good morning. I'm reading After Anne, by Roxanne Henke. This is the first time I've read a book by this author. My neighbor gave it to me and when I started reading it, it really grabbed my attention.
