I'm reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I'm not loving the book, but it holds a special interest for me as my son has just been tested for Asperger's... He's not quite so extreme, but definitely has "flavors" of Christopher.

Angela - I think that Nora Raleigh Baskin's Anything But Typical is a wonderful story about a sixth grader with Asperger's. It won a Schneider Family Award this past January.
I just started Labor Day: A Novel by Joyce Maynard which is great so far. I love when a book sucks you in right from the start. I wanted to start The Knife of Never Letting Go, but I'm saving that for the Challenge.
Paula wrote: "I am listening to Alanna: The First Adventure. I read the book ages ago and listening to the audio is a treat. I had forgotten a lot of the story."I'm reading the book right now. I love it so far.
I loved The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's and stuff by Temple Grandin are good for adults for non-fiction. For children re' synesthesia, which some say is related, you might want to read A Mango-Shaped Space. Oh, and Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant and Marcelo In The Real World were fascinating (and helpful to an outsider at least) too.

I'm reading:
[book:Lock and Key
Preludes and Nocturnes
and
The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox
I am reading Ann Martin's The Summer Before. It is a prequel to The Baby-Sitters Club series. I have never read any of the books in the Baby-Sitters Club so I don't know if the voice in this book is typical to the ones in the series but it is kind of annoying to me. First, I'm not sure the voice of the characters sound like kids who just finished sixth grade. I know I work with urban low-income sixth graders but still?!?! I'll finish it because it is for a book group but really pretty sure this book/series isn't for me.

I went to the library yesterday and got all three of her books!! They seem to be fast reads....loving this one so far!
Yup, I'm on track to read all three of hers too. She is awesome! And you don't hear much about her...not sure why. I still can't believe Story of a Girl was her first novel.
I am so jealous, I can't seem to find a copy of Story of A Girl anywhere! I'm reading The Summer I Turned Pretty Now.
I read Story of a Girl about two years ago and absolutely loved it! I definitely need to check out more of her books. Anyway, I just finished Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde and it was a bit blech! for me. Now I'm starting an ARC of Stork by Wendy Delsol which I won here on Goodreads.
I'm reading The Knife of Never Letting Go, which is awesome. I highly recommend it so far. Dystopias are typically my least favorite, but this is awesome. A little tough to read in parts, but the premise is cool - everyone can hear everyone's thoughts, even the animals. Since the m/c has a dog, it makes it very interesting. ;)

OH see now I thought it was too new to have anything come after it yet...it's not? That's great news! I hate to have to wait for the next book in a great series.
I just finished Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder. I just love her stuff. So good even if it does make me cry.
Alyson wrote: "I just finished Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder. I just love her stuff. So good even if it does make me cry."Wow Alyson, I just read the GR description and added that. It looks really good! What others have you enjoyed by her?
Laura - I would suggest reading I HEART YOU, YOU HAUNT ME before reading CHASING BROOKLYN. I have read all of her books and I feel like I devour them. Because they are written in verse they don't take long to read but they really are powerful stories. Her MG book IT'S RAINING CUPCAKES is a fun story that 9 and 10 year old girls love and it is great for reluctant readers. This one is written as a novel and not in verse. On Tuesday, I will be reviewing CHASING BROOKLYN and giving away a signed copy to one lucky reader. Here is the link for the blog http://youngadultlitreviewblog.blogsp... You can check it out and enter if you like.
Laura wrote: "Beth wrote: "I'm reading The Dreamer by Pam Muñoz Ryan"What do you think of it Beth?"
Laura, I love it! It's a beautiful book.
I read about it in a publication called BookPage, which can be found at lots of public libraries. I couldn't remember which issue it was in, so I looked at Bookpage.com and it says April 2010 but I swear I read it more recently than that.
Eden wrote: "I'm reading When Santa Fell To Earth by Cornelia Funke."How's the book? I was impressed with her writing ability with her Inkheart Trilogy, but that universe was so dark, it was hard for me to fully enjoy it. I'd love to read more of her, if it wasn't so dark.
I just finished Warbreaker, yesterday. I'm in the "middle" of Dancing on the Head of a Pin and The Law Of Love; I started The Passage yesterday, and I'm planning on starting Leviathan next week, when I finish The Passage.EDIT: aaaand I just realized that this comment might not belong here, as it's all about what YA book I'm reading.. ..but, I mentioned one I'm *going* to read, so that gives me a few points, right? **sheepish smile**
I just read The Sky Is Everywhere, which I really enjoyed, and then the next day read Leaving Paradise, by Simone Elkeles, which I really enjoyed UNTIL THE END. Argh! I was so frustrated by the incomplete, unsatisfactory ending.
I am currently reading The Shadowsand just finished the ARC of The Kneebone Boy. The Kneebone Boy is being released in September and it is the newest book by Ellen Potter. Really different from her other books. It will appeal to fans of Lemony Snickets or Pseudonymous Bosch.
Heather wrote: "I just finished Zane's Trace. Starting Zen and the Art of Faking It today. Just added The Kneebone Boy (how do you do it Alyson?). I loved the Bosch books I've read (s..."How do I do what?
Heather - hanging out on GoodReads, and Twitter (following authors& bloggers), and once a month I meet with librarians and teachers book talking new books. I find more good books than I have tIme to read. :-)
I just finished Full Moon and loved it. It was a second book in the trilogy and it was way better than the first. I finished it in a day.Next up, The Van Alen Legacy, part of the Blue Bloods series by Melissa De La Cruz.
Just finished The Shadowsand I have to say it was one of the best MG books I have read this summer. Scary but not to scary and really great wrap up to the book. Highly recommend it. Now Trying to figure out what book to jump into next.
I just finished A Place for Deltawhich was an interesting story about a boy who gets to care for a polar bear cub. I started Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. This is going to definitely be a contender for the Schneider Family Award/ALA 2011 (character with a disability). What a powerful, & amazing book.
Keep with it Gitte! It takes a bit of time to get into the Uglies, but well worth it.I just started April & Oliver by Tess Callahan.
I am taking a book break from Children's & YA and reading and adult book - The First Rule by Robert Crais.
Alyson wrote: "I am taking a book break from Children's & YA and reading and adult book - The First Rule by Robert Crais."Hey, I read that one! It was pretty good. :)
Susan wrote: "I just started North of Beautiful and am really liking it so far!"
I loved North of Beautiful! It's such a sweet book.
Jesi wrote: "Alyson wrote: "I am taking a book break from Children's & YA and reading and adult book - The First Rule by Robert Crais."Hey, I read that one! It was pretty good. :)"
I think I have read every book by Crais. I'm about 2/3rd through with this one and it is pretty good too.
I'm reading April and Oliver which is listed as children's fiction according to my library. I'm having a hard time believing that because there is a lot of adult content and some violence.
