They really did change and exclude a lot, but it was still a really good movie, in my opinion. Glad to see that you loved the series so much, Sara!

I'm reading Percy Jackson too. I'm on Sea of Monsters. So far, so good!I saw the movie last weekend, and was bummed at how far off course it went. But I think I would've liked the movie if I hadn't read the book first, because it was definitely action packed.
I let my 9-yr.-old granddaughter borrow my copy of Love That Dog
by Sharon Creech, one of my favorite books and just happens to be YA. She loved it, which, of course, I loved. I told her that there was a sequel by Creech entitled Hate That Cat: A Novel
, and she was so excited, so, of course, I had to stop at Borders yesterday and get two copies (one for her and one for me) for when she spends next weekend with me. These are short, verse books, that introduce poetry to a boy who is adamant that he hates poetry and "boys don't write poetry." I highly recommend these books, even though I haven't read the second one yet. Walter Dean Myers' poem, "Love That Boy" was inspirational in Creech's Love That Dog.
I teach Love that Dog as a way to teach poetry. I really love the book because it shows a students point of view and still deals seriously with poetry.

I started (and finished!) Dirty Little Secrets today. It's about a high school girl whose mom is a hoarder, and how the girl and her siblings deal with life. It was very well written. Hoarding has always interested me, especially after watching the show on A&E.

That's great to hear, Cathy. I can't wait to read it with my granddaughter next weekend.
Today I read the 2009 Newberry winner, When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead and thought it was excellent.

I enjoyed Twisted a lot, but I still favor Wintergirls and Speak. (You should read Wintergirls soon - it's great!) I think that Tyler was portrayed very realistically, which is something LHA is so good at.
I am just starting the Maze Runner by James Dashner. We'll see if it is anything like his 13th Reality series.
I finished Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris yesterday... It was A-FREAKIN'-DORABLE. Oh MAN, it was cute! And so so clean. It would be a really cute fairytale book to read with your 8-whatever-year-old daughters... :) Although they aren't going to appreciate the HILARIOUS plays-on-words and cliché mix-ups that you will get until they're older.I finished 24 Girls in 7 Days by Alex Bradley this morning. Also adorable, but in a different way. This book was written by a guy and the story is written from a male, high-school senior's point of view. BUT, it was actually fairly clean, other than some language. About a kid who's trying to find a date to senior prom... ;)

It tugged at my heart, too, Kelly.
I just started Front and Center, and while I really like it so far, I wish I had the audio. The girl who read the first two does a GREAT Wisconsin accent and really makes the words come alive... But I've been distracted by North and South, the miniseries based on Elizabeth Gaskell's book.... I have about 30 minutes left.... It's fabulous!
Sara ♥ wrote: "But I've been distracted by North and South, the miniseries based on Elizabeth Gaskell's book.... I have about 30 minutes left.... It's fabulous.."Sara,
I LOVE that Mini Series! The cast is perfect, right down to Mrs. Thornton (played by Sinead Cusack) and Richard Armitage is HOT, he makes sideburns look good lol.
I also think the thing that was so terrific about this series was the music, just breath taking.
At the beginning, I was like, "This guy is OKAY-looking..." but now? Yeah, he's definitely hot. :) It was AWESOME!
I'm reading Captivate which is the sequel to Need. I thought Need was pretty good, but took a bit to grab me. Captivate snagged me right off the bat so I am enjoying it.
Finishing Liar, and about to start Lisa Schroeder's It's Raining Cupcakes and Kay Cassidy's The Cinderella Society.
Kathy wrote: "Reading Hate That Cat: A Novel by Sharon Creech with my granddaughter this weekend. Love it!"Just as good as the first one!!
I just finished "It's Raining Cupcakes" by Lisa Schroeder. What a sweet middle grades book. Definitely a book for girls but lots of fun. Going to start The Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy.
I'm listening to A Step from Heaven by An Na. I like it so far, but I gotta say it helps that I speak a TINY bit of Korean... so I know she's saying "mom" and "dad" and "America" and stuff...

I agree!
I just finished listening to How I Live Now and it was a wonderful weird little book. I am going to start listening to An Abundance of Katherines tomorrow.I am also reading Shiver.
Jamie wrote: "I'm finishing up the audio version of When You Reach Me."How was it? As a book and an audio?
Jamie wrote: "I'm finishing up the audio version of When You Reach Me."I recently read that book and liked it.
I'm reading Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood it's an autobiography by Alexandra Fuller. I don't usually read non-fiction (or adult fiction for that matter) but I needed a palette cleanser after the challenge and this book was recommended in The Ultimate Teen Book Guide which has pretty awesome recommendations.

I have it on my to-read list.
I am reading The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones. So far rather elementary stuff, but not bad by any strech of the imagination! I think it should pick up (I am still on the first chapter!)
Regarding When You Reach Me, I really enjoyed the book and the audio actually was really good. I'm really picky about audiobook narrators, but I can't say anything negative about this one! I'm going to recommend When You Reach Me to my daughter, too. I'm sure she'll love it.
The Faerie Path has definitely picked up and it is not bad!! Anyway, thought I would update my sentiments, as I actually like it now!
I just finished reading Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon...it was wonderful. I loved it. Also, just started The Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy.
