Hi Alisha. Yes, I do think Alice writes very candidly about her experience. I've been wanting to read this book for ages but only recently managed to get a copy. It's great so far!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments I am between books. Trying to decide whether to start in on sequels like AL CAPONE SHINES MY SHOES or THE QUEEN OF ATTIOLA or read a debut author book like THE SECRET YEAR.

message 1513: by Bhumi (new)

Bhumi | 274 comments Debut authors are always fun, though there's no guarantee the books are going to be worthwhile.

message 1514: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Read Al Capone and let me know how it is :)

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Kellee wrote: "Read Al Capone and let me know how it is :) "

The first AlCapone book was wonderful. Characters kids could relate to, historical fiction that wasn't dry, respectful and realistic portrayal of disabilities. Overall just a great book.

Gets older. Have to find out about the prophecy :)

message 1528: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments No spoilers!! ;) I know nothing about the story except for what was in the movie preview, which I've seen a couple of times. He doesn't know he's Poseidon's son yet, even though I think it's pretty dang obvious (if you're familiar with Greek mythology)... I would HOPE that I would have known that even if I HADN'T seen the preview...

Kirsten (kirsten27) | 53 comments My 12 year old son is reading The Lightning Thief and says it's great. He wants me to read it, and my husband to read it aloud to our 9 year old (our younger son reads chapter books only reluctantly; he reads comic books all the time).

I am reading the first Vampire Academy book. I like it so far, but am not in love with it yet. Are there VA fans out there who think I should stick with it?

Me! The first book of the Vampire Academy series, to me, isn't the best of the series. However, the second and third books are fantastic, and right now I'm devouring the fourth book. Definitely stick to it! If you don't enjoy the first one, you may still enjoy the others.

Shaun Hutchinson (shaun_hutchinson) So a friend of mine picked me up a book called POWERLESS by Matthew Cody. It sat on my desk for a week before I started reading it. I was almost late for work this morning because I stayed up so late reading it. It's AWESOME. Can't wait to finish it tonight.
