Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments We need challenges! haha. Or at least maybe a monthly read...

message 2: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I vote for a group read, but a challenge may be a bit much, especially since we are all so active in other groups.

I guess we need a nomination thread...

message 3: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) correct your spelling mistake in the youn"D" adult authors thread.

<3

message 4: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Fiona - I read the group rules, so this is NOT snark: Your rule-numbering reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Holy Hand Grenade part... ;) Love ya!

message 5: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hey Fiona, you can move my Little House on the Prairie thread from Classics to Historical...it fits better there I think.

message 6: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I dunno....sometime in the 1900s :P

message 7: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) 1940s-50s I think.

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hmmm... I thought it was earlier. I say keep it where it is. I like them in Classical.

message 9: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) okay...thats cool. This historical topic just looked lonely and I wanted it to have a friend.

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Allison wrote: "okay...thats cool. This historical topic just looked lonely and I wanted it to have a friend."

I could put TGDT there... ?

message 11: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments I'd call it a classic... When I think historical, I think pre-1900, personally. Maybe WWI or WWII...

message 12: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) well they take place in the late 1800s mostly I think...but really I don't care, it can stay :D

TGDT doesn't belong in historical either I don't think.

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Why not? They are books written recently which are set in the 1800s...

message 14: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) *abashed*

...But I don't need a mod, as I started the thread and can move it myself.

message 15: by Sara ♥ (last edited Apr 28, 2009 02:59PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Books definitely cross boundaries... I'd say go for whichever one fits best. When people think of the book, do they think "that's a young adult classic" or "that's a YA historical fiction/nonfiction book"?

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Sara TX wrote: "Books definitely cross boundaries... I'd say go for whichever one fits best. When people think of the book, do they think "that's a young adult classic" or "that's a YA historical fiction book"?"

Its definitely historical fiction.

message 17: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments It might BE historical fiction, but is that what people think of when they think of the book? (Just trying to prompt thought... and be annoying... ;) )

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) I, myself, would think "historical fiction," but that's just me.

message 19: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Are we talking about LHotP or Gemma Doyle?

message 20: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I think Historical fiction is the best place for it, as thats the setting. It may contain other themes and ideas, but it is still a fiction book which is set in the past. I'm sure people can and will see it as many different things. :)

message 21: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Sara TX wrote: "Are we talking about LHotP or Gemma Doyle?"

LOL *I* was talking about Gemma Doyle.

message 22: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Oh yeah--Gemma is historical, for sure! (Sorry!) I was thinking of LHotP as classic.

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Susanna wrote: "I, myself, would think "historical fiction," but that's just me."

YAY! Welcome in Susanna!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) Greetings, greetings.

message 25: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I think YA Mystery, YA Action/Adventure, and YA Humorous threads would be a great addition.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) Yes, I would say The Westing Game was definitely "mystery."

message 27: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) OK... because Allison just HAS to be a pain and say that TGDT needs to be moved AGAIN, I suggest a compromise. How about a YA Series folder? (Can't argue that it wouldn't go in THAT one, can she?)

message 28: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) that would steal everything though! there are a ton of series...

I'll stop being a pain, I SWEAR!!!

message 29: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Alright! Alright... I'll put it back in fantasy and that's it! LOL

message 30: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm sorry Becky :P you can leave it I won't say another word. LOL

message 31: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Allison wrote: "I'm sorry Becky :P you can leave it I won't say another word. LOL"

You'll be thinking it though. I know you. *eyes Allison*

message 32: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I think a YA Series folder would be a good idea. I think there are a lot of series books, but there are also a lot of individual books in the YA genre.

message 33: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Too bad we can't do sub-folders.

message 34: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I actually think we could use a series folder.

message 35: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) maybe "other series" or something? I really don't think we should automatically move ALL the series to it :\

message 36: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Nearly everything is a series these days though.. *sighs*

message 37: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) True.

message 38: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) OK, I know that I started this, but I actually agree with Fiona. LOL We should just make the thread work for the whole series.

message 39: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Otori isn't YA I don't think :P The 2nd book has a TON of more mature themes.

message 40: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Well but how about the series books that don't clearly fit into any one genre? Either they're just fiction or they fit into so many it's hard to classify them?

It could get a bit messy tho, bit of a catch-all place...but....just playing the devil's advocate.

message 41: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Becky, I am NOT ignoring your Book Thief thread. I have NOT read it, but do own it. It's on my short list, promise.

message 42: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Kandice wrote: "Becky, I am NOT ignoring your Book Thief thread. I have NOT read it, but do own it. It's on my short list, promise."

OK.. *cuts away the books on the short list above The Book Thief to make it shorter*

message 43: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I like Fiona's idea of just making one thread for the whole series. That should cover the series books very well.

message 44: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) LOL

*shreds the cutoff list*

message 45: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments ICTC is also adult and YA.. I found it in the adult section of my library.

message 46: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yea, there is an "adult" part of that book, but it's brief, Messenger was way more adult IMO. There are so many crossovers to adult in this genre.

message 47: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Yeah.. it is a grotesque looking book... no wonder a lot of people have not read it.. since this is the age where you do judge a book by its cover.

message 48: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I think we need a graphic novels section too *nods* Or am I the only one obsessed with those, adult or YA?

message 49: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Kristen wrote: "I think we need a graphic novels section too *nods* Or am I the only one obsessed with those, adult or YA?"

I think that's a good idea, even though I haven't read any YA graphic novels yet... Would the Sandman series be considered YA?

message 50: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I think those both can be... sometimes a little graphic, but I know they read those in high school, especially Maus.

I love Manga and graphic novels and I must spread the joy of them! hehe.
