message 5952: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Errante-Parrino | 17 comments I am currently reading What Dumbass Doctors Tell You: A Patient’s Perspective. A breast cancer book from a patient's perspective. The theme of this book is patient self-advocacy. The need for the patient to be knowledgeable in cancer expectations from diagnosis to surgery to post-follow-up care. Patients have a right to second opinions, to have providers they feel comfortable with, and to self-advocate when they believe they have a serious health concern such as cancer.

JCM SEDNA | 52 comments Hi Everyone,
Just completed Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.
Quite an eye opening read on the cultural differences between men and women in the east. This book takes the reader on a journey of oppression including foot binding, obedience, and Chinese women's worthiness based on how many sons they birthed. Lisa See takes us into the life that existed for centuries in China that girls, women had to endure. JCM SEDNA

Carol (xenots) | 45 comments The Orphan Collector by Ellen Marie Wiseman. WOW!!! Book is excellent but very graphic

message 5992: by Hilary (new)

Hilary McElwaine | 3 comments The Truth about Harry Quebert by Joël Dicker. It is so hard to put down but I savour the moment when I can settle back between its pages. It is a detective story which unravels slowly for the reader as if we are uncovering the mystery ourselves, Friendship, love and being true to self. Judgement by society and the balance between success and failure are key themes. It is brilliant.
