Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Hi Ladies,

It's going to be a fun round, I'm looking forward to playing Bingo with you & chatting books with you all.

I'm in Scotland so probably a different time zone from you all, I check in regularly though!

Does anyone have any idea's for a team name? Anybody want the Captain hat?

message 6: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Hi Michelle and all the other ladies! For those of you who don't know me, I'm D.G., and I'm married with no kids. I'm NYC and I'm always around here.

I can be the Captain BUT note that I'll be on vacation from August 5-16 so I won't be able to request stamps. Also, I cleared it first with Steph so I have a friend to cover for me if the winning shelf is called while I'm out and we are in the hunt.

I'll come back with ideas for names tomorrow. I went to bed at 2am reading and then had to get up at 6am for the BEA Bloggers Conference. I'm so tired!

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments Hi everyone!

I have played the last couple times so I'm not stranger to this game. I'm bad with coming up with team names. I'm not sure if I want to be team captain. Also, I'm in the central time zone.

D.G. | 2752 comments I sent friend invites to all of you.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments I guess I can try being captain if no one else wants to since I'm on Goodreads everyday. It will be my very first time being captain ever in a team challenge.

message 11: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Hello team! I'm a veteran to both the game and the captain role so I could do it again or help out if needed.

I'm a Computer Science student from Greece and my exams are coming up soon so I might be a bit late reading my books for the first couple of weeks but I promise to catch up as soon as possible.

Some interesting facts about number 14 to inspire our team name:

Fourteen is:
-"XIV"
-The number of days in a fortnight.
-The number of lines in a sonnet.
-The Piano Sonata No. 14, also known as Moonlight Sonata, is one of the most famous piano sonatas composed by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I also sent friendvites to everyone. Sounds like we have all played before and know what's expected of us then. Thanks for letting us know about your holiday D.G, glad you don't need to miss out cause of it. I hope you are going somewhere nice!

I'm easy on the captain thing, I have a lot planned over the next few months but I am online almost everyday & routinely on Goodreads for 'work' so I'll be around.

Names... That's a little difficult. My brain always goes blank when I try to think :)

Foxy Fourteen
Flirty Fourteen
Fourteenth...
Fabled Fourteen

Not sure if your fans of alliteration, I keep thinking - Flirty, Foxy, Fiesty, Fable, Fickle, Ferocious, Furry, Fantastic

Supernatural creatures that begin with F -
Furies, Fairies, Fates...

of course looking at Thenia's list I was thinking of ways we can be clever with it & can't get past Beethoven's Bitches...

It's been a long day! I will keep thinking and if nothing comes to me tonight I'll think some more in the morning.

D.G. | 2752 comments Wow, Thenia! Thanks for the helpful links!

Now that we have several volunteers for the Captain's chair, I put myself out of the running. (Funny, in every team I participate, I'm the only one who always volunteers!)

I'm fine with either Thenia or Amy being captain. If Amy is still a bit nervous about it, it seems that Thenia has everything in hand.

Lots of good ideas for the team name! I like the idea of using 14 for inspiration but not necessarily using it in the name.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments I'll let Thenia be captain this round if she wants to. I'm not confident enough to make a good captain.

D.G. | 2752 comments My brain is fried so I hope to contribute something to the team name tomorrow. :)

I really hope we get an 'easy' shelf in the first week. I was checking some of the shelves to see how many books I had on my TBR and some I thought were difficult - time travel - I had like a gazillion books in the first page while others I thought would be easy like 'paranormal mix', I barely have two books I don't feel like reading.

Thenia | 977 comments Amy ~Lover of Books~ wrote: "I'll let Thenia be captain this round if she wants to. I'm not confident enough to make a good captain."

I could help you through it if you'd like to give it a try, Amy. No pressure though, if you don't feel up to it it's fine. I've done it enough times to feel part of the game for me so it won't be too much trouble if nobody else wants to take the reigns. Just let me know.

D.G. wrote: "I like the idea of using 14 for inspiration but not necessarily using it in the name."

As luck would have it I was a member of the 14th team in the 5th round as well and came up with "Double-of-Seven" in a moment of inspiration.

Some of the other suggestions then were: "Unlucky +1", "Fantastic 14" and "Fated 14".

"Moonlight Readers", "Reading by Moonlight" (in?/ with? /?) or something of the sort could be tribute names for the awesomeness that is Beethoven's 14th Moonlight Sonata, if you like any of those. (Here's a link for the 3rd, and my favorite part, to help our inspiration: Moonlight Sonata. Pretty intense...)

What do you think?

Well, you've been captain before and you seem the most comfortable being captain so then you should be captain.

D.G. | 2752 comments We have a Captain then! Yay for Thenia!

I'm going to the BEA now so I'll contribute to team names later today. :)

message 23: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I'm just catching up on work, I'll have a think later.

message 24: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I like the idea of using Moonlight because of the shifter connection (as this is a PNR group.)

Some suggestions (mixing some of the themes we've already heard)

Moonlight Furies
Sirens of Moonlight

These are just random ones that I came up with:
Crazy Lunatics (overkill but hey!)
The Bookworms

I'll probably come up with more tomorrow.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments I like Moonlight Furies.

message 26: by D.G. (last edited Jun 01, 2013 05:49AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I like that one too!

I looked for a 'team name generator' online and I found one! The names are crazy but funny...here are some I like:

Dangerous Spiders
Smiling Cobras
Shrill Ravens
Fabulous Coyotes
Spiky Llamas
Smooth Armadillos
Whispering Goats
Sable Zebras
Venomous Owls
Fearless Frogs
Clever Moles

Of this bunch, my favorite is Sable Zebras, LOL!

message 27: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Thanks for the votes girls! I'll keep our team organized. ;)

We could be Bookworms in Moonlight, to combine a couple of the suggestions above, or just Moonlight 14 or whatever you like best. I'd like Moonlight to be a part of our name, but if we can't find one we all like, whatever you pick is fine by me.

Votes?

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments I still like Moonlight Furies.

D.G. | 2752 comments I like Moonlight Furies too so I can go with that one.

message 34: by D.G. (last edited Jun 01, 2013 05:38PM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Woohoo!

Most likely I'll read Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by R.L. LaFevers because I'm suppose to read it for 2 other groups BUT I'm also feeling like reading Killing Rain (John Rain, #4) by Barry Eisler , which is one of my favorite, favorite series. I'm reading another book now so I think I'll decide in a day or so.

For my Free Space, I'll read Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh as soon as it comes out on Tuesday. I found it on the New Releases Thread and also added it to the bookshelf myself because I'm sure lots of people will read it during the challenge.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I'm happy with Moonlight Furies :)

My laptop charger has went to heaven & it'll take a few days for a new one to arrive. I still have my phone & kindle fire though so I should be good.
Need to have a look at the shelves, haven't decided on my free space yet either. Hubby is doing a charity zip slide across the River Clyde today so it may be tonight before I let you know my choices.

message 38: by Lala (new)

Lala | 1065 comments For free space I'll read Turn Coat (The Dresden Files, #11) by Jim Butcher (From groups bookshelf).

message 39: by Thenia (new)

Thenia | 977 comments Helpful spreadsheet for this round's stats: BSB 7.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments For free space, I'll be reading The Rising (Darkness Rising, #3) by Kelley Armstrong which is found on the fantasy and young adult group's shelf.

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments For Assasins I will be reading One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) by Jeaniene Frost

and for Free Space I'll be reading Wild About You (Love at Stake, #13) by Kerrelyn Sparks it is on the group bookshelf.

Suddenly found myself wishing I hadn't already read Heart of Venom, it fit Assassins perfectly. I found one though, and I'm behind on both series so this will let me catch up a bit. Happy Reading Furies!

message 42: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I haven't started reading yet...really, haven't read anything during the whole weekend! Most likely I'll read my Free Space book first because I'm supposed to review it for the blog on Friday.

message 43: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I finished my assassins book, I'll write my review tomorrow.

message 45: by Lala (new)

Lala | 1065 comments For assassins I'll read Shadow's Edge (Night Angel, #2) by Brent Weeks

message 46: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) by Jeaniene Frost
Read: 2/6/13
Rated: 3 Stars
Shelf: Assassins

Review: I have never really appreciated Cat & Bones the way most people do, I have kept up with the series mainly for the secondary characters. I had hoped for more in this installment, it truly felt like a filler book rather than having an interesting story on it's own. I was disappointed, I'm in no hurry to read any more.

message 47: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments That's what I've heard from most people who read that book, Michelle. I'm up to book #3 and haven't felt like continuing at all.

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Stalking from another group ... but I just have to agree with Michelle's comment on Cat and Bones. Maybe my expectations are too high given all the hype, but I just don't get what all the fuss is about. I don't find Bones all that sexy nor do I think his relationship with Cat is that romantic (I've only read books #1 and #2). I think Kate and Curran may have ruined me for any other UF couple.

message 49: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Kate & Curran can ruin anybody!

I have to say though that the audio voice for Bones is simply horrible so I'm not surprised you didn't find him sexy!

message 50: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments I love Curran! I'm also really partial to Owen from Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series. Thanks ladies, I was scared initially to say I wasn't that keen especially when the first book came out & everyone raved about them. I just didn't get it & unfortunately I still don't. It's a shame cause the Night Huntress World & Vlad books are so much better.
