Title/Author: Midnight Rising by Lara Adrian
Read for shelf: aliens
Date finished: 7/15/13
Rating: ★★★
Review:
NOTE TO SELF: Do NOT continue this series. No matter how much you are tempted when you want to listen to some PNR in audio, please learn your lesson. After 4 books, it's the same bland plot and it will NOT improve. Get it in your head.
Like the previous book, this one was bland, with a couple that fell in love out of nowhere. Worse, Rio got over the betrayal of his previous mate too easily. I would have thought that it would take him years for him to trust another woman again.
And just in case your curious as to why this book is in the aliens shelf, these vampires descend from aliens.

NOTE TO SELF: Do NOT continue this series..."
D.G. I get what you mean. I only read the first book of the series but even so I got that bland feeling you're talking about and didn't continue. I sometimes wonder if it gets better in later books but not enough to pick up the second book.

I hope I don't fall off the wagon. :)

Okay, I've picked up

This book was confusing when I starting read it at first, but as I read on, it got better. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read especially the mythology part!

My Review: This is one of those surprising books, the ones that sweep you away almost right away and keep you right until the very end. I loved it, can't quite put my finger on exactly why but I really did. some of it was predictable an I was unsure of bits but on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed it, couldn't put it down!

I like how it shows the view through Ky's eyes and also Cassia's. In this book they try to find each other and then join up with the rebellions. It was quite interesting read and i enjoyed reading about their journey.

Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein- ★★★ (7/22/2013)
Shelf: Aliens
Forward thinking, thought provoking and imaginative, this is the story of a human raised in Mars and his return on a futuristic Earth.
Imagining how someone from a different planet, used to a different set of rules, would view and react to Earth and humans was very intriguing. Michael is both very naive and very wise, a living contradiction. His education and introduction to human society was what I found most interesting, along with his way of thinking and the meaning of the word "grok".
In essence, understanding is the core of his thought process and he struggled to grok everything around him - a daunting task since everything is new to him.
At some point, when religion and its various aspects became the focus of the story my interest waned, since that was not the direction I expected it to take, but it still included a lot of original thoughts and I enjoyed the mental exercise.
The ending threw me off a bit, despite how obvious it seemed in hindsight.
The narrator did an amazing job portraying the various characters and even though it was hard for me to get into the story at times, his narration made it enjoyable.

This was as enjoyable as the first book! Janelle sure kicked butt in this one! I loved the ending and wonder if there is going to be another book after this one!

White Cat by Holly Black - ★★★ (7/24/2013)
Shelf: Paranormal Mix/Paranormals
Mysterious and imaginative, this is the story of Cassel, a non-Worker in a family of Curse Workers, people whose touch can manipulate emotions, affect luck or cause death, among other things.
Cassel may not be a Worker but following in his family's footsteps, he is a con artist and enjoys it. His past is haunting him and his relationship with his family is strained, making him reserved and cautious in his everyday life.
A series of events make him start questioning his reality and the motives of the people around him and he ends up discovering something he never would have thought possible.
Fast paced and engaging, the audio version of this book and the great work of the narrator brought the story to life. I'm curious to see how Cassel fares in his new reality in Red Glove.

Title/Author: Dark Awakening by Kendra Leigh Castle
Read for shelf: paranormals (paranormal mix)
Date finished: 7/22/13
Rating: ★★★★
Review: This book had a different take on vampires which I really enjoyed. Instead of the usual, here vampires belong to different 'dynasties' and depending on the type, they have different powers. There are also issues dealing with a subjugation of a race which I found very interesting because it mimics the evolution of the human race.
Definitely reading the next in the series!

My Review: Another enjoyable book in the series, lots of politics in this one and I missed the hijinks that I've come to expect from Kitty. A little tamer than the first books but I did enjoy it, the last 40% especially. I'll definitely be picking up the next one and despite poof having a different meaning entirely where I'm from - I so want one!!
It took me a little longer than expected to get through this one, I'll be starting my paranormals tonight though. How is everyone else getting on?
