Craig O'brien | 18 comments Just finished reading The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker and was really disappointed.

The storyline centred around Pinhead was imaginative and well written, but the character writing for the "other" group in the story was very, very poor, often-cliche'ed (particularly the gay characters) and showed no evidence of the type of character writing that makes Sai King's "quest" novels so, so enjoyable.

Miriam (chkntza) I am reading, "the house of the scorpion" by Nancy Farmer. It's a page turner.

I really enjoyed that book, but the sequel (can't think of the name) was a let down.

message 3059: by Miriam (new)

Miriam (chkntza) I'm sorry to hear that.

The mother of all Star Wars prequels Into the Void takes place 25,000 years before A New Hope, so I was expecting something Arthurian with simple technology. But no, we've got spaceships zooming around.

The newest Body Farm book, The Breaking Point by Jefferson Bass.

The series is amazing! Takes forever to read because I get sucked in by Rodriquez' illustrations just as deeply as Joe's words.

I'm 2% in and I do like it. The author writes vivid settings and he creates a sense of foreboding right away.

message 3068: by Cody (new)

Cody Vaters | 118 comments @Kandice, it's only gonna take me awhile because I can't afford to buy all the books atm :( but I'll re-read the three that I have! Takes me about two hours to read one, but then I go back and admire the art...

I finished Red or Dead by David Peace. Painful boring read. Not entertainment even for a die hard football fan like me

and I started Consider the Lobster and Other Essays by David Foster Wallace, which seems amazing

A group of us are doing it together in another Goodreads group, Horror Afficionados. I tried to get it started on here and, oddly enough, there wasn't much interest. I'll send you the info, if you'd like to join us.

Bruce | 26 comments I finished Anno Dracula the other day, and loved the hell out of it. It's basically a paradise for anyone who knows their vampire fiction or Victorian fiction in general.

And while I'm waiting for the sequels to arrive in the mail, I'm rereading chapters from Danse Macabre. I love reading King just ramble on about the genre.

I just wish the new edition had reprinted the pictures from the old one. I love those movie stills.

2 out of 5 stars

Also finished the excellent short ghost story from William Meikle, The Persistence Of Memory The Persistence Of Memory by William Meikle

4 out of 5 stars

E. | 242 comments Hi Kristine. Welcome to the group.

I'm in the middle of What Lies Within, reading by request of the author James Morris, so that's pretty cool.
I'm also reading Summer of Night for an audiobook group read. It's a long one, and it has it's moments. Also reading White is the Coldest Colour for an impromptu group read and interaction with the author John Nicholl. That's always fun, enlightening and interesting.
I'm almost finished with them all and not sure what's up next. I'm thinking something humorous and creepy. That's always a good time.

I have seen the movie but it has been so long that I do not remember how I felt about it. I will have to rewatch it.
