Just finished Creep by Jennifer Hillier and it was excellent! Wonderful debut book by this author. I cannot wait to read the next one Freak, and the other The Butcher. If they are as good as the first, she may become one of my new favorite authors.

I read that! I remember thinking after I'd finished it that I really wanted to take a shower. It is a fine book but downright gritty!

I've finally finished Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West, by Cormac McCarthy. It's been a long but satisfying ride.

I know exactly what you mean, Nancy. It's tough to pull off what he does with it. Reminds me of the fringes where I grew up.

Well, my advice would be to take it very slowly. Make sure you have lots of time to invest. I've been with it two weeks.

Okay I finally got Turning Angel by Greg Iles done I really liked the book and since it was the first book I ever read from him I am so gonna check out his other book.

Also got Chosen Prey by John Sandford Done I Liked his Prey series but I just wish my library would had them all lol! But I probley end up buying them at a use bookstore here lol

Read Darkness, My Old Friend by Lisa Unger Really didnt care for it but with her books its a hit & miss with me

Just got Judgment Calls by Alafair Burke I liked it but not as much as her Ellie Hatcher series but not bad read. But a friend of mine said the book in her Samantha Kincaid series are good so gonna have to check it out

When the body of a murdered nun is discovered at the Convent of St. Anselm in the village of Cullingoak, Inspector C.D. Sloan of the Calleshire C.I.D. finds himself with fifty suspects—all black-habited nuns who at first look exactly alike to him. It’s the sardonic Sloan’s first venture inside convent walls and, for most of the nuns, their first encounter with the police. Before the killer is unmasked, both the police and the nuns will come to learn a great deal about each other.

Another totally delightful Aird murder mystery with plenty of red herrings and a murderer I would never have guessed!

Revival by Stephen King

My rating: 3 of 5 stars


Stephen King is a master storyteller. But he has in the past written a mediocre book or two, and this is another, but by no means the worst!

Using first person narration, the main character, Jamie Morton, takes us back to his childhood and reveals how he met the Reverend Charles Jacobs, his very attractive wife Patsy, and their small son. Following a tragedy Charlie, as Jamie refers to him, leaves town under a cloud.

The rest of the novel follows Charlie' and Jamie's encounters with each other throughout their lives.

The first half of the book was definitely the more interesting, with King's narration of Jamie's childhood invoking memories of my own childhood. After that it all becomes a bit blah!

The conclusion (which i found disappointing) is definitely not terrifying as promised in the blurb.

Having said that there is some great writing in there - it is just not consistent.

I just finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I found it way too far fetched for my taste.

I finished Dead Water by Ann Cleeves. Journalist Jerry Markham, a former resident of Shetland Island in Scotland, goes back for a visit and ends up dead. DI Willow Reeves is brought in to investigate and works with two local detectives: Sandy Wilson - a young lad who lacks confidence, and Jimmy Perez - who is in mourning after the death of his girlfriend, Fran.

Investigations reveal that Markham may have been looking into an island group promotiing tidal energy and the police come to suspect shenanigans in this proposed business venture. The detectives also discover that Markham is a spoiled, self-centered fellow who - several years before - had run out on his pregnant girlfriend. Moreover, another body soon turns up, complicating the investigation and widening the list of suspects.
The story's setting is well described, and the reader gets a glimpse of the terrain and culture of the Scottish islands. The characters are well-rounded and interesting.
The police investigation proceeds in a logical fashion leading to a finale that's believable but too long and drawn out. All in all an enjoyable mystery.

Just finished the novella Roadwork by Richard Bachman/Stephen King. Although well written, i\the story didn't really go anywhere. Rather disappointed with it.

Just finished Redheads . It was touted as a mystery/horror/CSI type novel which is an accurate description. For those of you who are interested in serial killers and lots of bloody scenes, I highly recommend this book. Actually, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

I've finished They Rang Up the Police, by Joanna Cannan, and wouldn't you know, I felt sorry for the murderer in this one.

Next up:
A Dark Corner, by Celia Dale (#4 of the obscure women crime novelists I'm reading) and

Asylum City: A Novel, by Liad Shoham. I was sent this book as part of a blog tour, but the tour was cancelled, so the least I can do is read it!

Darn! I'm looking forward to reading this and hoping that I will be among the ones that did like it. We'll see. As with most books, people either seem to like it or not.

I finished Top Secret Twenty-One by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, needs to round up bail jumper Jimmy Poletti. While he's loose members of Jimmy's gang are getting murdered and Jimmy seems especially determined to kill his accountant Briggs - a little person who turns to Stephanie for help.
Meanwhile security honcho Ranger is being threatened by a Russian mobster who tries to wipe out his Rangeman staff with the poison polonium.
Lula helps Stephanie run down nutty bail jumpers, Grandma goes to viewings at funeral parlors, Stephanie's mom irons to calm her nerves, bombs and rocket propelled grenades blow up Stephanie's stuff...all the usual shenanigans that go on in this series.
Previous books in the series are hilarious but this book felt stale. It recycled the same old scenes and Stephanie still lusts after both Joe and Ranger - which is tiresome already.
Finally, the end of the story is rushed and tacked on. Not a good addition to the series.
