Just finished:
A phenomenal historical fiction mystery.
Just started:
Another in the series by James Rollins. Mix of archaeology, historical religious fanatics, international crime & itelligence agency disputes. Should be good.
I'm a little way in to
I'm not a big fan of paranormal elements in mystery thrillers, but I'm enjoying this one so far.

Finished Spring Tide -- it's a Swedish crime novel written by a team of scriptwriters who among other series, have worked on Arne Dahl's books for tv.
So far this month I have finished reading The Cuckoo's Calling, The Silkworm, and Landline. Now I'm starting Big Little Lies. I hope I like it as much as I did her last novel The Husband's Secret.

After his engagement is broken, Constable Hamish Macbeth is looking forward to rest and relaxation in the coastal town of Skay. But when he arrives at the somewhat dismal bed and breakfast, his fellow guests include the annoying spinster, Miss Gunnery, a single man, a London family, two young "tarts", and Bob Harris, who so nags his wife that everyone wants to kill him.And then someone does. The couple who run the boarding house are not above suspicion either.
I listened to this story with great enjoyment.
The narrator has a pleasant voice and is good at accents and different characters.
The story itself is a lovely "cosy" mystery, with no sex and very little violence.
I enjoyed the plot, and there were no shortage of red herrings.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cosy murder mystery. Am going on to listen to another M.C. Beaton

Wrong Scott. I was speaking to the Scott posting about his own book. Thanks, Brenda!

The last couple of weeks I've been on a mystery spree.
and on a general Spenser/Nero Wolfe/Stephen King kick. I've also been sprinkling in
here and there. I'm on the last one at the moment. They're fun undemanding whodunits, and I really enjoy the setting (an imaginary Hawaiian island called Elima).

I have read several in the series, but not in order. I have read Death of a Nag and enjoyed it. There is a TV series w. Robert Carlisle playing Hamish

I enjoyed that book so very much. Her newest one is a good ride as well, but The Little Stranger has a lot more depth.

I have just finished a book by Jennifer Moss Way to Go and posted a review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just finished Natchez Burning. Greg Iles has long been one of my favourite authors. Natchez Burning confirms that he is a truly great writer. 800 pages may seem like a lengthy tome but he writes with such command of the language that he pulls you into the story and it's almost impossible to put it down. The pages whizzed by as I was gripped by the enthralling characters and plot including the subplots.

I am now listening to Death of a Perfect Wifeand really enjoying that. I can see I am going to have to do the whole series and in order.
First book by this author, I would think my last.
This has never happened before to me, but I just could not finish this book, got to 338 pages and gave up.
Throughout the book there was no strong story, no tension, suspense, thrills, action, well not much, no build up of the story. The writing was weak, and just got thoroughly bored.
For me to put a book down, it has to be bad and it was, and the lead character was not that much of a personality.
This is why we all like different authors, books and stories.
Back to a good book with The Target by David Baldacci

Wow. I have trouble believing that. Maybe you should have started at the beginning of the series, Cold Granite. I'm on the third one now, Broken Skin; although I don't seem to be ripping through like I think I did with the first one. I just loved the first one.
But, of course, I don't think that much of Baldacci. He's another one of those authors who seem to need an editor.
I finished Hallowed Bones by Carolyn Haines. Doreen - a spiritual healer - is accused of murdering her handicapped infant and PI's Sarah Booth Delaney and Tinkie Richmond are hired to prove Doreen's innocence. Doreen admits that several men are candidates for father of the child, and the detectives question them, thinking one may be the real killer. Most of these men are kind of shady 2-dimentional characters, but they serve their purpose as possible suspects.
Many of the recurring characters in the series are on hand, including Jiffy - the ghost that gives Sarah advice, Coleman - the married cop in Sarah's life, Connie - the married cop's disturbed wife, and Sarah's friend CeCe - the tough transgender reporter. Sarah's former lover Hamilton also puts in an appearance, and Sarah is conflicted between her attraction to Hamilton and her love for Coleman.
This is just an okay cozy mystery with rather uninspired detective work. 3 stars.
Barbara: It sounds good! I am reading Trunk Music by Michael and S is for Silence by Sue Grafton ( both are great).
HA! I just started A is for Alibi. Can't believe I am only just getting to this series. I think she is up to W! But i put a hold on Gone Girl at the library so all is thrown aside when that gets here.
I liked Gone Girl, ad I have read all the way from A is for Alibi, and her books are just darling reads.
Skye wrote: "Looks good, Jo Ann"It really was...I picked up the next book right away because I needed more :-)
That's funny Tom, The only one that I have read so far isA is for Alibi, but I do have almost all of her books except W so I have a long way to go to catch up myself.

I read those some time back (Sue Grafton) when I lived in Santa Barbara, which is her Santa Teresa. It was fun trying to match places in the book to real ones.

I am nearly done The Facts of Life and Death -
. This is my second novel by Belinda Bauer and so far I am a fan. A great atmospheric crime thriller.

I am reading Michael Connell's Trunk Music ( and loving it) as well as S is for Silent by Sue Grafton; both writers are favorites of mine. One is intense and the other is cozy and delightful.
I have just finished Sometimes the Wolf by Urban Waite. I gave it 3.5*My review here:
