Maggie comes across as too hard and unfeeling and more time is spent ion her psychoanalyzing herself and her relationship to her mother than the actual plot.
I just finished the dangers of candy canes by Laura Levine. I thought it was very funny. Jaine Austen, the main character, reminded me of an older and slightly heavier Stephanie Plum. I noticed this was a series and I would love to read more of her stuff.

It is a good series and hope you give it more of a chance.
I'm reading Hollow Bones by C.J. Lyons. This is my first time reading her, but so far I'm really liking it. Nice pace, interesting characters, and intriguing plot.
Probably not the correct location but for fans of Greg Iles here is the very long awaited good news.BIG news this morning for fans! Greg Iles is on Facebook and twitter and here it is..my assumption is Natchez Burning is Cage 4, new title ....great. Love his books....and very glad this excellent writer has made a recovery from his awful accident. Apparently a small eBook teaser January.

I may finish more of the series in a bit but am now onto something else. I actually enjoyed the first book in the series more than the third.
I have started the audiobook version of The Likeness. I really enjoyed the first book in the series and by all accounts the second is better.
I finished Daniel Deronda this morning, enjoyed very much. Half way through Night Without End and enjoying the excellent pacing. About to start Chocky by John Wyndham.
Hi Shannon, I'm Ann. Nice to meet you. I saw your current reading list and Never Tell caught my eye, so I am going to start reading
Dead Connection This sounds like a very good series-Like I need to add ANOTHER series of books to my To-Read Mountain! LOLI also want to start reading
True Blue Is this a stand alone book or part of a series?

See my comment/question in my last post. Thanks! =o)
Just finished The Transylvania Flying Squad of Detectives and I thought it was great fun. If you like Jim Butcher or Kim Harrison than you'll really enjoy this novel. It throws in everything and the kitchen sink when it comes to supernatural creatures, but manages to do it in such a matter of fact type way that it's very enjoyable and you find yourself concentrating on the compelling story and wild action scenes. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to step outside the box and have a fun read.
It usual takes me a few days to get through a book. But I flew through Defending Jacob because the story line was just that good. The ending was not expected and I would highly recommend this book!
I just finished
. The plot was creepy and scary at times. I never even anticipated who Casanova was until it was revealed.
Jannene wrote: "I just finished

Some thrillers take a ripped-from-today’s-headlines scenario, tart it up, and turn it loose on a recognizable slice of the real world. If there’s disbelief to be suspended, it comes in small doses. Other thrillers, on the other hand, require you throw away that disbelief all in one chunk right up front, then let the plot unspool more-or-less naturally in the alternate world they set up – a world that looks like but doesn’t necessarily act like the world we live in.Mark T. Sullivan's Outlaw belongs to the second type. Once you make that leap of faith, you get an efficient, Ludlumesque international chase story. That first step’s a doozy, though. Three stars plus a little.
Because I wrote this review for Criminal Element, I can't copy it here. However, you can read the entire review -- and find a lot of other good stuff -- here.
I finally (several interruptions) finished
Wow, what a GREAT debut and thrilling read! (review to follow).

Oh sorry very important because it is October, I also finished the splatterpunk novelette Boogeymen you can read my review. If you love horror, you will love this. The concept was really good! I enjoyed it a lot.

This was a great book. I agree it was very creepy, especially the snake and warm milk. I can't imagine how an author comes up with this stuff.

I hope you enjoy it, Evelyn. I really like this series.

Poison Pill
has the bones of a good corporate-takeover potboiler, an underexplored genre. However, repellent characters, amateurish writing and a loss of focus on the main action make for a missed opportunity. Two stars.Since I reviewed this book for Criminal Element, I can't copy it all here. However, you can read the entire review -- and a bunch of other good stuff -- here.

Evelyn, I have the book in paperback and would gladly mail to you if you would like to read it. You can send me an email through here with the address if you are interested.
I just finished a very surprising Thriller - The Sleep Police. I picked this one up without checking the ratings or reading the reviews. It is an exciting story of a sleep deprived detective who decides to solve a particular case and will not sleep until he does. The kicker is that he believes he may be involved with the serial killings, all of which occurred while he was sleeping. The kindle version is less than $4 bucks on amazon and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

i read that book in the 90's and still remember that crazy scene (kind of hard to forget something like that)- i used to love the alex cross series- the early books are the best in my opinion although i ended up reading 17 of them.
reading The Scorch Trials and trying to figure out what mystery i should start next- thinking either Whiskey Beach or Stealing Shadows.
Rachel wrote: "reading The Scorch Trials and trying to figure out what mystery i should start next- thinking either Whiskey Beach or Stealing Shadows."I just finished Scorch Trials. I'm going to start the last book as soon as I finish Sycamore Row which comes out Tuesday.

Shannon Cabinet of Curiosities is a 4 star book! I love Preston and Childs and wish they had authored more together.
