Just finished Massacre Pond: A Novel and now I'm starting Soft Target by Stephen Hunter. I've never read anything by Hunter but I found this in the bargain bin and it sounded quite good. We'll see.

Just finished last night. Very different from his Burke series and most everything else I've read by Vachss as well. The characters don't seem as well developed and the smaller town location didn't seem as real as the NYC locations either.

Will see where this series goes but I'm a bit ambivalent at the moment.

Just finished Shelter - Tara Shuler. Wasn't a bad book, was interesting in parts for the style of book. Found quite a few spelling and grammar errors and sent an email to the author telling her. Now I am going to read Vigilante - Kerry Wilkinson.

I paused reading Russell Blake's Jet III, so I could get and start reading Dr. Sleep! It's the first Stephen King book I've gotten in over twenty years and so far it is awesome. It doesn't have the strangulating feel of complete terror that the Overlook Hotel had, but it's going off in some wild and great new directions which are wonderfully entertaining.

I have just finished `The Death Sculptor` By Chris Carter, I couldn't put it down! Read it in 3 Days (Which considering I work full time and have two kids is no small feat!). I really enjoyed it, but it certainly isnt for the weak hearted, and is pretty gory.
Cris Carters books I always find to be an addictive rollercoaster, and anyone who can handle a bit of blood and guts with their detective novel I would recommend gives them a go...

I am just starting The Defector by Daniel Silva. I usually enjoy his books. This one seems a little thicker (more pages) than the others.

I have just finished Life After Life. An appealing read for all of us who wonder "what if' our lives had taken another turn or we had chosen another path. At my age, I am doing that a lot! Four stars.

I am reading I like Silva. This book is quite thick, has a lot of factual
info about the invasion of Normandy, D Day. It follows closely with a documentary I saw on PBS, and a book that just came out which I think was just recently published but it seems a lot of it came right out of Silva including the title which Silva uses
often in this fictious work but based on real facts, so you see one can learn alot from fiction if the fiction is based on facts and a lot more interesting to read.

Just finished Cop Hater. It is the first in the ling running 87th Prceinct series. I liked it quite a bit. Very different from other crime/mystery books of the time. It has some pretty in depth police procedural. I had a good idea who the killer was, but had the motive completely wrong.

Just finished Outlaw: A Robin Monarch Novel . If you can get past the ninth-level suspension of disbelief needed for the basic premise, it's a pretty good read. Author Sullivan, an escapee from the Patterson factory, can tell a tale, and his hero isn't as superheroic as the alpha males in these sorts of stories often are (that's a good thing for me). I'd give it 3.5 stars if we could give half-stars; once I write the review for Criminal Element, I'll figure out whether I'll round up or down.

I need to try a couple of the later books. Loved the first one, got annoyed with the 'romantic involvement/ child out of wedlock' mess and quit. Hopefully the author gets back to mystery instead of angst.

I loved all of the Rizzoli books except The Sinner. The rest are great!

I read it recently as well. The Beaumont series is my favorite by this author and this was a particularly good one.

Halfway through a classic, Daniel Deronda by George Eliot and just started South By Java Head by Alistair MacLean.

I am currently reading Red Mist by Patricia Cornwell. I am reading more because I feel obligated to read the series I started years ago although I don't enjoy it much anymore. The characters seem to have take over the series and not the actual case, if that makes sense.

I tend to read it in spurts and only get the books on clearance or dirt cheap. I no longer get excited about the new books, which is sad. Since I have done on and off reading of the series and the characters are so complicated and she references prior books in the series so often, I am getting more confused than anything. Does anyone know of a website or some place where there is a detailed synopsis of the books that I can refer to? Not a plot summary or teaser, but something that summarizes the book - the case, the characters, the ending, etc. I am tempted to do it myself but I unfortunately no longer enjoy the series enough to bring myself to re-read it.

I have. The summaries are short and tend to cover only at the high level or the summary of the book on the cover. The characters summaries are high level and don't go into much detail. Unfortunately Cornwell makes the books so complicated you need to be able recall too much information from the previous books to make things fit well.

Arthur W. Upfieldhas a half-caste detective in Napoleon Bonaparte. Most of them have to be picked up at second-hand stores or used book sales. But I think it is a good series. Of course, I'm only on my second one. But using someone who is half-native is a little different than the usual. The one I read already was Murder Down Under. One of these days I'll be starting Man Of Two Tribes.

Adrian Hyland has written two books set in Australia. I've read both, first is Moonlight Downs which was also published as "Diamond Dove", second is Gunshot Road. Both have the same main character, Emily Tempest, who is also a half-cast, as was Upfield's detective.

I'm a huge fan of Peter Temple's Jack Irish series. Irish is a lawyer who hits rock-bottom after his wife was killed, gives up his practice and basically becomes involved in different investigations/helping out friends in trouble, though he's technically not a PI. I really like the cast of characters/regulars.

Aussie author Katherine Howell's Ella Marconi series. Ella's a detective working out of Sydney. The first one is Frantic. I have read and loved them all:)
