I finished A Tap on the Window by Linwood Barclay. In this book private detective Cal Weaver recently lost his son who jumped off a roof while on drugs. Desperate to find out who gave his son the drugs Cal agrees to give a lift to a teenage girl who knew his son. After some slippery behavior the girl disappears and Cal feels compelled to look into the case. Lots of twists and turns leading to a satisfactory conclusion. 4 stars.

I am currently reading Anita Blake #3 Circus of the Damned. I want to read Dan Brown's new book and Dare Me by the end of the year
Ingrid wrote: "I just started The English Girl by Daniel Silva. I'm loving it so far."Silva is one of my absolute favourite writers! The Gabriel Allon books are fantastic!
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Now I got what is original sourse of all modern dystopia novels! Like it vety much.
Yuliya wrote: "Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Now I got what is original sourse of all modern dystopia novels! Like it vety much."It's a great book, I love all those Huxley novels...
I am just starting "Let the northern lights erase your name". Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I will let you know what I think.
I just finished The Sound and the Furry by Spencer Quinn, another good Chet and Bernie mystery. Chet was at his comical best! Now reading Massacre Pond: A Novel by Paul Doiron. It's a mystery series featuring Mike Bowditch, a Maine game warden. The series is very good and I'm looking forward to jumping into this newest one.
I finished Dead Anyway by Chris Knopf. In this mystery Arthur Cathcart - a market researcher who loves his beautiful, successful wife - has his life torn apart by a sudden act of violence. Determined to find out who's responsible he hatches an elaborate scheme filled with false identities, complex business dealings, thugs and gangsters, and a beautiful woman (of course). Naturally he has millions of dollars available to help him pull this off. Most of the book involves detailed descriptions of how he pulled off these shenanigans; I found these hard to follow and not that interesting. However if you like to read about these kinds of complex schemes you'll probably like it. 2 stars for me.
I finished
Poison Pill
last week. I'll have to wait for my review to come out on Criminal Element before I can post a summary here. A potentially decent story sabotaged by amateurish writing. Two stars.
Now reading and ARC of Outlaw: A Robin Monarch Novel , also for Criminal Element.

Her Charlotte "Charlie" Fox series is her claim to fame. Here's a link to one of my reviews: http://seeleyjames.com/2012/09/28/rev...

The Pesthouse sort of the Grapes of Wrath set in a future apocalyptic America and Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
I just finished reading The Friday Edition
Betta FerrendelliIt was very interesting. The storyline was good and kept me interested to the very end.
I am now reading Passionate Magic
Dawn AddonizioI hope the author published the sequel, Grey's Magic, soon because I will definitely be reading it!
I'm reading Bones Are Forever by Kathy Reichs. It's okay so far. I'm about half-way done. Not really sure what exactly to think of it right now. It feels very much like I'm missing a huge point, but hopefully it'll clear up soon. I love Kathy Reichs and her Temperance series, but this one is taking some time to get through.
I just finished The Bone Collector. It was a good book. I liked Sachs the best. The ending blew me away.
I just finished Lee Child's Never Go Back, which was not his best book, and now I've moved on to Russell Blake's Jet III-Vengeance which I'm enjoying.
I just finished In the Woods by Tana French. A few of you were interested in reading it so I will post my review. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...It is a character driven novel and at times plodding. Despite the slow pace through 3/4 of the book, the characters are very well developed and very engaging. I listed to the audiobook and the narration was top notch.
I read In The Woods and have to agree with Tim on the plodding pace and the disappointing payoff at the end. I liked The Likeness by Tana French, but In The Woods just wasn't as good.
I wasn't disappointed with the payoff at the end. I thought the ultimate villain was a great character. All if the characters were interesting and you became invested in them.

This was probably my least favorite that I have read in the series. I think it was just the storyline that didn't really excite me very much. My husband liked it, though.

Just finished the latest J. D. Robb book book:Thankless in Death|16299341], very entertaining. Now reading Queen Of The Night which is proving to be another good one.
Rick wrote: "I just finished Lee Child's Never Go Back, which was not his best book, and now I've moved on to Russell Blake's Jet III-Vengeance which I'm enjoying."Interesting how we come away with different ideas from the same works. I loved NGB (it was a backstory book for fans), but I only read about a third of the first "Jet" book (too much action without reason, but well written).

Seeley,
Normally I greatly enjoy Lee Child's books, but this one was a little thick on travel and descriptions of travel, and I wasn't real happy with the ending. And yes Russell Blake can be a little heavy on the action, but like you said it's very well written, and sometimes mindlessly fun wall to wall action is just a great distracting and enjoyable read.

Yuliya wrote: "Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Now I got what is original sourse of all modern dystopia novels! Like it vety much."I don't know that I would call it that. Utopia was the first major influence. And the film Metropolis predates Huxley's Brave New World by a few years, I'm sure there's even other literary works of featuring dystopian futures. Though Huxley was a visionary, he was also a great writer and that's more why Brave New World is remembered more than it's contemporaries.
I tried to listen to The Keeper of Lost Causes but the narration was so bad I couldn't even last an hour. I am now listening to In Cold Blood. It is narrated by Scott Brick who is excellent. I am enjoying it so far.
Tim wrote: "I tried to listen to The Keeper of Lost Causes but the narration was so bad I couldn't even last an hour...."I read the book and thought it was fairly good.
I may read the book but the I couldn't stand to listen the narrator and the Scandinavian accents were grating.
Am thoroughly enjoying "The English Girl" by Daniel Silva as I have the rest of Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon novels. Don't know that he wrote any other, have not seen any, ate any rate, to check out or buy!
I just finished off Jim Thompson's Savage Night. I quite enjoyed it an wrote up a little review for it. Up next is Cop Hater.
Linda wrote: "I'm 85% through Rules Of Prey by John Sanford. I'll be starting Shutter Island."Shutter Island is a good book. Hope u enjoy it!
Next up on the library hold list for the new book by Andrew Vachss Aftershock: A Thriller and anxious to see what he's done with a new character and location. Reviews seem to be widely varied and not a lot of them, he's definitely an acquired taste but I loved his Burke series even though it is much darker and grim than I usually read.

I'll have to look for that one. I picked up on the series about five years ago but haven't gone back much into the past.
Peace, Seeley
finished
yesterday. I love Tami Hoag. Now I'm trying to find my next book to read, but it will be hard to follow that one. I need a new author series that is just as good as hers. Any suggestions?Dottie
I finished The Black Ice by Michael Connelly. In this book, LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch investigates the seemingly linked deaths of a police officer and drug runners who traffic in "black ice", a new potent street drug. Harry's investigations take him from L.A. to Mexico and involve attempts on his life and dangerous shoot-outs. Good mystery/thriller.
Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall. This was honestly one of the best books I've ever read -- right up there with To Kill a Mockingbird. I didn't want it to end. It's takes place during the 1960s and the civil rights movement. A young white girl and a black woman are thrown together through fate and the things they go through... Well, you'll have to read it.Whistling Past the Graveyard
I finished Fatal Tide by Iris Johansen. I really enjoyed this book. The characters you liked from the beginning and felt like you were long lost friends. This was a great read.
