Currently Reading? Just Finished? 2013 and on
My Mom is into Kreuger too (since wea MN girl too!) I tried reading his stuff, but was turned off by the bed hopping. I really hate a lot if sex in mystery-thriller-suspense books. Unless its needed for the story to move forward, don't put it in!(Sorry for the rant there!)
Sorry, hit the wrong button! Wanted to say we both live in MN too and we both (Mom and myself) like reading stories based here.
Just found A Bullet for Cinderellaon the Kindle downloads from my library, which I somehow missed as I don't recall ever reading it. John D. MacDonald has always been one of my favorite authors, especially his McGee series.
I just finished Kruger's new one Tamarack County and it was very good. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Yep, Jan, exactly it. Thanks! I'd forgotten it was that film.
I just finished the third book in the "Hollywood" series by Joseph Wambaugh-
. I gave it 5 stars as I found this book to be more character centered than the second book. When a piece of fiction makes me cry over the death of one character, then you know you were hooked on the book.
Finished
this morning before heading into work. Enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I read it. A great mix of characters, plot twists upon plot twists and a super Private Eye in Sam Spade. Excellent.

Oooohhh.... Mission Flats is something I want to read because I loved Defending Jacob too! Please tell us how you like it after you are done! :)
I'm reading two at the moment: The Solitary House by Lynn Shepherd and How the Light Gets In by Louise Penny.
I was reading the Biography "Sonia Sotomayor" -The true American Dream. A very intriguing story of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor's life history and her fulfillment of her "American Dream". What a remarkable intelligent Woman! It only took me two days to finish this book. It was written by Antonia Felix who also wrote Biographies of Condoleezza Rice and Laura Bush.
I have finished Claim Me - J. Kenner which I thought the characters are so intense now with the way Damien and Nikki are learning about each other. It's still in the style of 50 Shades. Now I am going to read Complete Me - J. Kenner and I am listening to .The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend on my phone.
I'm also flying through Jon Talton's Concrete Desert: A David Mapstone Mystery Great read, especially if you are from the Southwest. Talton's characters are memorable and the storyline is gripping. At first I felt it was just the tiniest bit slow in getting out of the gate, but I understood why once the complexities of the story began to play out. I grew up in Phoenix and Talton's descriptions of the good and bad sides of the city are spot on. As an Arizona boy, that makes the book that much more enjoyable for me.Kent Sievers

Just finished The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie. I wanted to read a classic mystery but not one of her Poirot ones. Very enjoyable--light-hearted.
Just finished the Red House Mystery. Fantastic book.About to start Bones of the Lost (book 16) by Kathy Reichs

I love Tommy and Tuppence. N or M? is another good one featuring T-and-T.
My first Mo Hayder, and I did find it a real thriller, chiller, and very exciting. I will try another, too. The book I read was Poppet.
I just finished "The Prophet" by Michael Koryta. An intriguing plot around high school football ('tis the season"). My first of his books, but I'll definitely read more! Also read "The Good Man" (husband returned to library so don't know author). It was a great read, finished in two days.

I just finished reading THE OTHER TYPIST by Suzanne Rindell, one of the best psychological novels to come along in years. It will royally play with your head. I loved it.
Sharon:I read all of the Vachss books in succession in July. Loved the series. It is a very dark series. Interesting and intriguing.

I have to limit my exposure, though I do re-read the Burke series occasionally, even now. Brilliantly written, intriguing characterization but a truly bleak, though obviously realistic look at the damage people can do to others. Even one of his short stories can still give me a chill if I think about it, one I have never re-read.
I am on the waiting list for his newest novel, Aftershock, not a Burke novel.
I finished Exile by Denise Mina, the second book in the Garnethill series. In this book Maureen O'Donnell - a troubled, hard-drinking woman who works at a woman's shelter - helps investigate when Jimmy (her friend's cousin) is suspected of killing his wife. Not a lot of likable characters but the story is well-written. 4 stars.
I just read the last page if "The Lost Van Gogh". I'd never heard if this book before I saw it on the Savers store shelf. But it had Van Gogh in the title and I had to get it (I am an art nut and Van Gogh is my fave!)Anyhow....it turned out to be a pretty good book. Glad I picked it up.
Now I have to decide what to read next....I'm looking at 3 piles of new and in-read books as I type. I wonder which one will be the next ONE....hmmmmm...
:D

. Am in the mood for some viciousness Gretchen style. Also, Poirot returns! Sophie Hannah will write the first new Agatha Christie novel in nearly 40 years! What do you think?

I think Poirot is a little old-fashioned for modern times. Maybe he'll have a cell phone and computer... a la the new Sherlock in the TV series.

Wow, I hope that she does a good job. I love Poirot and his old-fashionedness. Why does everything have to be modernised? It doesn't necessarily make for a better character/book/read.
Just finished listening to all the "whole number" Walt Longmire books by Craig Johnson. Wow!! His writing style strikes me as a combination of James Lee Burke & Tony Hillerman. Superb!!

Superb!!"I've been a fan since I read the first of that series. He is one of the very few that manage to get everything about the 'modern west' right. He writes about the region and the people where he lives, which is the same area where I grew up and lived most of my life as well. Some of the actual people and places he mentions I know personally and I've known people like the characters in his books.

I love Gretchen, also. This book just arrived in the mail at my house but it will be a Christmas gift from my kids so I have to wait until then to read. I hope she is as nasty as the books in the beginning of the series.
