Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Melody came up with this idea in the suggestion thread, and I thought it will be perfect as another challenge:

Here is how she describes it, complete with a sample:

How about "Build Your Own Boxset"? (something I've done with movies that should translate to books): choose 3 or 4 titles (by different authors that are not part of a series) that relate by theme or by title (title your boxset and/or explain your reasoning).

Example (related by title):
(Un)Dressing Your Cowboy, one book at a time:

Blue Jeans, Tuesday Morrigan
Dark Roots and Cowboy Boots, Luann McLane
Scrooge Wore Spurs, Janet Daily
Under This Cowboy's Hat, Rob Knight

Now for some ground rules:

1. There should be a minimum of 3 books in your boxed set. They should not belong in the same series or written by the same author.

2. There is no time limit for this and you can complete as many as you can depending on your creativity. However, although cross-challenged titles are fine, the books must have not been read before you post your entry.

3. Unlike other challenges, before starting, you must post the complete list of books that will belong to your boxed set.

4. Be sure to include an explanation of your boxset's theme.

Have fun, ladies.

PS: Thanks again for the brilliant idea, Melody.

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Queen)ஐ (briansgirlkate) Make your own boxed set challenge

Boxed Set #1
Theme: Mysteries around people who work with books

2. Lethal Legacy A Novel by Linda Fairstein A murder mystery that involves a conservator of rare books and maps, and secret tunnels and chambers of the New York Public Library. (Side Note: I won this as a first reads giveaway on GRs.)

3. Murder is Binding by Lorna Barnett A murder mystery where the main character owns a mystery bookstore. She tries to find out who killed the owner of the cookbook store next door after a rare cookbook is found missing.

4. The Case of the Missing Books by Ian Sansom Main character moves to Ireland where he prepares to drive a mobile library around a small, damp Irish town, but where are the books? The rolling library's 15,000 volumbes have mysteriously gone missing.

Boxed Set #2
Theme: Sherlock Holmes

#1. Sherlock Holmes and the Titanic Tragedy A Case to Remember by William Seil It was a dark and stormy night in 1912 when Dr. John Watson was called out of retirement to join his friend Sherlock Holmes on board the Titanic. They were to travel to America to carry out a top-secret government mission. While on board, Holmes, disguised as a Naval Commodore, is to look after a young secret agent who is transporting important submarine plans to the U.S. Navy. The plans are stolen, corpses appear, the investigation proceeds, and all the while the ship moves across the Atlantic toward what the passengers think is a New York City dock?but readers know differently.

#2 Holmes on the Range by Steve Hockensmith Two farm hands in 1893 who love reading Sherlock Holmes stories employ their holmes-inspired "deducifyin" skills to set out to solve a murder.

#3 The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: A Case of Identity by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle The original

Boxed Set #3

Her twin passions have converged in a brand-new position as head chef for Elm Creek Quilts, Waterford, Pennsylvania's popular quilting retreat.

#3/#4 - Table For Two by Nora Roberts. Two books in One.
Summer Desserts When love-resistant dessert chef Summer Lyndon develops a taste for her delectable boss Blake Cocharan, her legendary willpower is put to the ultimate test.
Lessons Learned Publicist Juliet Trent never mixes business with pleasure, but her newest client, charming ladies' man and chef Carlo Franconi, is determined to whet her appetite for love.

Melody (melos) Ooo, going gangbusters there Briansgirl! :O) And Courtney, yummy, you and Briansgirl both have foodie books, I love foodie books!

Now I have to come up with something "brilliant"! (My library can't get 2 of the titles from my example. Bad Library *swat nose*.)

ஐ Briansgirl (Book Queen)ஐ (briansgirlkate) lol@melody's library

As for mine, they weren't as difficult to put together as I thought they'd be. I won a firstreads copy of Lethal Legacy and I recently ordered Murder is Binding (rare for me to pay full price for a book, really rare). And I found the Case of the Missing Books book online recently for $1.99. Happened to pick up several Murder She Wrote books from the library and I have a few, so putting that set together wasn't hard.

Sherlock Holmes too a bit more work. I found the Holmes on the Range for $1.99 online and it arrived in the mail today (along with the missing books book above). I have the complete works of Sherlock Holmes but they're too long to read for this. lol But I have 4 audio books that I have 3 yet to listen to so added one for the original. I had to search for a third Holmes book and that's a YA one my library has and I'm a titanic history buff so it should be interesting. The book I REALLY wanted to add to it is OOP and nowhere to be found even online for sale. (I tried 8 sites). It's The Federation Holmes Casebook Number One a Baker's Dozen of Sherlock Holmes--Star Trek Parodies. I'm a ST fan so it would have been perfect but I couldn't find it anywhere online and library doesn't have it. My only option left is if, by chance, I can order it on interlibrary loan. (Will add it to the list if my library can find it).

I love cooking so the chefs books should be good. I found the quilt one at the library and have it checked out now. The Nora Roberts one I've been waiting to read. It's 2 books in 1 but the goal was for 3 books by different authors. The only other book I know of with a chef in it that's fiction is Legend, which will be a reread for me.

2. Stroke of Luck by Jourdan Lane - Dale and Brandt are doing all right on their ranch in Colorado, raising horses and living together. At least it is until Charlie joins the force.

2. The Long Way Home by Z.A. Maxfield - When young boys go missing, psychic Kevin Quinn is called in to help the police department. Quinn's partner is Connor Dougal, a newer detective on the force, and a skeptic when it comes to psychic abilities.

Exactly when he started seeing his blond, intense partner in another light, Valenti isn't really sure. He only knows that he wants O'Brian in a way that had nothing to do with friendship and everything to do with possession. It is a desire he will have to hide forever because O'Brian is undeniably straight.

Box Set #4
Rear THRUSTERS engaged Captain.

1. My Fair Captain by J. L Langley - Swarthy Intergalactic Navy Captain Nathaniel Hawkins ran from a past he had no intention of ever reliving. But when his Admiral asks him to use his peerage, as an earl and the heir to a dukedom, to investigate a missing weapons stash, hes forced to do just that. As if being undercover on a Regency planet where the young men are supposed to remain pure until marriage isnt bad enough, Nate finds himself attracted to the kings unmarried son.

2. Hot Cargo by Nicki Bennett - Captured and accused of piracy, privateer Blaise Risner, captain of the Golden Stallion, finds himself in a clinch - literally - with Confederation Admiral Peter Keller, who promises to see justice done by way of hard labor. Keller dispenses his own forms of painful justice and sensual discipline, which usually involve a not-so-resistant Blaise on his knees bound and determined to give as good as he gets.

3. Lost Star Interstellar Service & Discipline 3 by Morgan Hawke - Aubrey was a tech engineer with a dirty little secret that the Moribund Company was willing to destroy everyone and everything to get their hands on. When Deshryt Seht, blood prince of Skeldhor, saved the dying boy's life, it set off a contest of wills as strong as the call of their blood. Unfortunately Aubrey has one more secret that severs their relationship before it can truly begin.

4. Broken Boundaries by Evangeline Anderson - Chaz is the youngest recruit the Academy has ever seen. Godlike reflexes and hawk eyes make him a natural gunner assigned to fly the futuristic ship with technology so advanced it's still classified. But it takes a two-man crew and Chaz, the lone wolf, must have a partner. Tension climbs to a breaking point when Ferron informs him that in order to fly the Needle he and Chaz must have their bodies pressed together in a dance of sensual intimacy that makes the sexually straight Chaz angry and uncomfortable.

But beware... it's longish (800+ pages) So: If you ever get your hands on it, prepare - it's gonna consume your time, then you'll probably get hooked, and once you're hooked, the farther you go in the series, the longer the books. Yeah, one is over 1400 pages!!! Nice, huh? Consider yourself warned!

2. Blood Brothers by Barbara Sheridan - In a world where the nights are darker and the passions run deeper, two young men go from friends to something more when a dangerous stranger appears on their doorstep. When the summer night brings a mysterious stranger to their door, the most dangerous desires of their dreams and nightmares are awakened. Blood now binds Kiyoshi and Sakurai together where once love did, but can this tie last an eternity?

3. Blood Claim by Various Authors - This volume features a trio of M/M tales from three of the genre's hottest authors.

Box Set #6
My, what a big HOSE you have

1. Aidan and Ethan by Cameron Dane - Thirteen years ago Aidan disappeared in the dead of night, but he is home now. Aidan has come home to take the job of chief of the fire department and to reconnect with his brother and sister. He wants Ethan back too. Unable to forget their kiss, Aidan wants to explain why he went away, and he wants a second chance to win Ethan’s heart.

2. 911 by Chris Owen - Drew is a fireman who loves the rush of his job, and is looking for a roommate to share costs. Scott is a doctor looking for somewhere to live that doesn't leave him rooming with his now ex-lover. The match seems more than perfect when Scott moves in with Drew. It's more than just costs that they share. They find it hard to resist getting to know each other in the most intimate way, and soon things are heating up enough to make even Drew wonder if they can handle the fire.

3. On Fire by Drew Zachary - Take one tall, broad-shouldered fireman in his early thirties. Mix well with one skinny, eighteen-year-old college kid who lives for sex, and the results are sheer pleasure.

Box Set #7
I'm a SLAVE for you Baby

1. Creations Control by Marie Harte - Drekk knows what it's like to have the needs only a Creation can experience. He's learned to blend in with the populace and balance a Creation's desire to submit with his own powerful personality. He'll teach Ryen the same, but it won't be easy.

2. Slave Boy by Evangeline Anderson - Wren has been in love with his master from the moment he laid eyes on him. Haven rescued him from a life of sexual slavery and his gratitude is exceeded only by his desire for the tall, broad shouldered man he calls Master.

3. Blue Ruin 1 Some Kind of Stranger by Katrina Strauss - Shane "Blue" McGowan wakes up groggy, blindfolded, and chained to a stranger's bed. Upon finding himself in luxurious surroundings, the cunning Blue realizes two things: he has no desire to return to a life on the streets, and his handsome captor stirs strange and unfulfilled longings in him.

Courtney (cddimmitt) Jael, I like the Gimme More idea. If I made a similar boxed set for mine, it would take me the rest of the year to finish them all! :)

I think I'll stop at 10. lol I only made this many as there is no time limit and I have them TBR. I've only listed I think 4 library books between the ten boxed sets. Sad that I can add books to each of these still from what's in the house TBR (or for boxed set #10, one more that I've read). lol
