Yes, please! I fully support a Fanyon field trip to New Zealand (imagine, a get-together I can easily go to!). I saw that post and I smiled. My house is not very big, but it's summer, so we could definitely do some sort of sardine sleeping arrangement out on my deck. :)

So, because I pay no attention to anything anywhere and therefore have no idea what is going on (ever), does this mean there is a Christmas story coming our way? Because...I need it.

That is all. :)

Can you handle sleeping outside, Johanna? It's not too much like camping if it's at my house right? ;)

YOU GUYS ALWAYS HOG THE BLANKETS.

I do have some news though it is not Josh related. The SO and I have just signed a contract with McFarland Press for Mr. & Mrs. Murder: Husband and Wife Sleuths in Detective Fiction.

So that's going to be a huge part of next year, but I'm really looking forward to it. :-) And I'll try not to bore you all to death talking about it.

It won't affect any of the planned Josh projects. Those will go ahead as scheduled (not that you can call my haphazard list of titles an actual schedule).

And I just signed the contract for Corpse Pose to be translated into Japanese (not with Shinshokan though--this is a new publisher).

And the annual Christmas calendar begins on December 1st over at my blog. Codas and whatnot. I'm mentioning it now because these next few days will be sheer chaos and may not have time to pop in!

No this is a detailed analysis of fictional husband and wife sleuthing teams from the 1800s (when Paul and Dora Myrl first appeared) to the 1960s. We cover all the thematic stuff, the socio-political stuff, we do an overview of the books (which is the fun part because we are basically reading as many of these books as we can lay our hands on) and we do a bit on the writers and the writing itself. It's a big endeavor and it's exciting because it's the first of its kind.

There are already definitive books on noir, women--and I don't think Wayne Gunn's work on the gay male sleuth will be topped anytime soon--but for whatever reason no one has done a comprehensive, in-depth study of married detective teams.

And you will be able to count on my steadfast answer. What you and the SO are embarking on is the kind of stuff I love to read, and therefore will love to hear about along the way. Good luck!

Well, I think it will be because, as immersed in the genre as the SO and I are, even we were startled to discover just how many married sleuth teams there were--and just how far back they date. We went into it thinking Christie's Tommy and Tuppence were the earliest. And we were quite wrong! So most of these couples are completely lost to modern day readers.

Some...well...deservedly so. So are pretty dated. But some are delightful.

Yes we do. We've got about 25 so far. We're divided about Peter and Harriet because they've been so studied and analyzed already. Of course we'll mention them, but they be in a combined chapter.
