Rhiannon I guess if they make a TV serise that would be ok. And honestly I think Will an jems actors should be some unknow actors that can play the parts properly with the right emotion. I dont want to see some huge hollywood name. I just want to see two people that are like my Will... and Jem. Some young english guy with a cute accent and good humour. The humour is a must. Oh and he has to hate ducks. That should be part of the Will criteria. If they kill this serise im going to come to Cassandra with torches and pitchforks. As one of my favourite quote goes 'when life gives you lemons DON'T make lemonaid. Make life take the lemons back. Get mad! Then- Yell, I dont want your damn lemons, demand to see life's manager and burn down their house(with the lemons)

Naomi Speakman I agree. I don't think TID being a TV series wouldn't be so bad. I would rather have my dose of William Herondale on a weekly basis than once a year.
The right cast is a MUST. I mean, look what they did with CoB! I HATED who they picked for Jace, and Clary, and Alec, and Izzy. Simon was a great choice in my opinion.

Back to TID. I would LOVE Max Irons to play Will - he has the looks, the British accent, he can ride horses. Oh God. He is just perfect. Even Cassie said that Max Irons would be a perfect Will. He's a great actor. I loved him in Red Riding Hood and The Host. I'm not so sure who should play Jem - he's a difficult one. Nina Dobrev should play Tessa.

miriam It's supposed to be a TV series

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm more ok with TID becoming a TV series than a movie. I have no idea why, I guess it just seems more... safe I guess, if that makes sense at all. If it became a movie, I feel like it would be completely ruined, but I feel like a TV show might have a chance. Still, I'm nervous; I don't want it to be ruined!

Bethany Lightworm I really don't think that they should make the show into a Television Series because if they do that then the ENTIRE plot line will most likely be destroyed. If they want to turn the series into something then stick with a movie. And then, they should only make the book series into a movie if, and only if they are 100 percenet POSITIVE that the movie will do the book complete justice.

message 107: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire Sorry guys but I heard that if City of Bones fails, (Which it did) they won't have enough budget to make a next movie. I also heard that before COB bombed they were planning on making the first 3 mortal instruments books into movies and then they would begin making TID.

Since Mortal Instruments was a waste of money I have high doubt they will be making a Infernal Devices movie. I wish they would tho I like the TID series better than the Mortal Instruments.

Bethany Lightworm Zara wrote: "Sorry guys but I heard that if City of Bones fails, (Which it did) they won't have enough budget to make a next movie. I also heard that before COB bombed they were planning on making the first 3 ..."

They have actually begun pre-production of City of Ashes. They decided to make it, and just create more advertising and marketing projects to really spread the word and increase the popularity.

Ladynight I have two book series I would prefer to see in an anime (adult/manga style), rather than in a movie. The books are Daughter of Smoke and Bone & The Infernal Devices (the main reason being that only in an anime could they find/create a character similar to the ones on these books).
I don't have a lot of hope for a movie, specially after the Mortal Instruments movie.

I Craize Books NOOOOOOOO If the Infernal Devices become movies they're going to be so horrible. They already didn't make Jace cute!!!

Elise So true.

Wait a sec if they did that then maybe they won't find a cute Jem.

Where did you get that info from? The worldwide gross of TMI: City of Bones could not cover the budget spent for the movie and marketing.

This is from Cassandra Clare on 1 December 2014.
"There is currently no set start film date for City of Ashes, but Constantin Films plans on shooting sometime in 2014."

They haven't decided anything yet.

I got it from two different sources. 1) http://tmisource.com/the-mortal-instr...
The second was from the imdb website.

This is practically the only thing I do online other than use tumblr, twitter, and Goodreads; look up the statuses of book to movie adaptations, authors, and books.

message 115: by Sarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sarah It would be SO much better as a miniseries, in my opinion. If maybe around three to five episodes covered a single book, and there were three seasons...all the details get sprinkled in, remembered, or in the very least it's more intricate...
...or maybe that's the Sherlockian in me talking. I don't know.

I see.
Both links said nothing about when they will 'exactly' start the movie production. The first link said 'sometime in 2014' while nothing can be seen in IMDB.
Both links have not been updated since TMI City of Bones sank in the Box Office and they decided to postpone the sequel production.

Georgia I'm confused by this, how are Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices not going under the same thing?

On IMDB it said it began Pre Prodution and they have both been updated since City of Bones sank in the Box Office.

Safiyyah i think its a terrible idea. The infernal devices are extremely good books that need to stay as books and not be adapated! I don't think they will be able to portray it properly and why make the mortal instruments and infernal devices into films??

Bethany Lightworm Laney wrote: "Lets just hope they choose someone better for Will than they did for Jace."

I think Jamie Campbell Bower was a pretty good choice for Jace. He portrayed him really well. Just because he doesn't look 100% the part doesn't mean he was a bad Jace. Besides, how likely is it that they will find someone exactly how the characters are described? Also, Cassandra Clare helped with the decision of who to cast as Jace. If the author thinks that someone is perfect for the part than who are we to argue?

message 125: by Naomi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Naomi Speakman Actually, Max Irons would be a great Will, and Nina Dobrev is practically Tessa.
The last I heard of TID movie adaption was that they were thinking of making it into a TV series. Which would be better, for then Constain Film would not have the opportunity to mess up the cast and the storyline like they did with CoB.

Naraystia this is great news! I can only hope they won't ruin the whole thing by removing a lot of scenes. i hope they stick to the book!

Michelle Alexander Usually I would be totally excited about a movie like this. Of course not as much as reading the book, but since I loved them so much, I would absolutely see the movie. Problem is they totally destroyed The Immortal Instruments and I could not have been more disappointed, so I would hate to see the same thing done again. Step it up people, and stay true to the way it was written.

Mealias ugh ... after the blunder casting they did for Jace ... i do not have high hopes for TID as a movie :(

message 131: by Naomi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Naomi Speakman As long as they get the MAIN characters right (especially Will, Jem, Tessa, Jessamine, and Gabriel and Gideon and Nate), and as long as they stay true to the story, then I'd be happy for it to be made into a TV show/movie adaption.

Bethany Lightworm Ruthie wrote: "ugh ... after the blunder casting they did for Jace ... i do not have high hopes for TID as a movie :("

I don't think that Jamie was a bad Jace. Cassandra Clare actually had final say so in who to cast as Jace. If she thinks he was a wonderful Jace than why can't everyone? Honeslty; his acting was quite superb.

message 133: by Bonia (new) - rated it 5 stars

enough with Mortal Instruments. dont do it to clockwork angel. pleeeaaassseeee don't!

Naraystia Ruthie wrote: "ugh ... after the blunder casting they did for Jace ... i do not have high hopes for TID as a movie :("

well, Jamie was a fine Jace, except for the scene where Simon caught him and Clary kissing, and he was saying 'go after him and pat his head' line. it looked awkward, the way he kept brandishing his arms.

Mealias Peachypeach14 wrote: "

Sorry, I'd have to disagree.
When I heard Jaime was cast as Jace I screamed "why?!" because, honestly, he ain't "pretty" enough for me. Then there's his body type. Jace has a lean athletic build, and yes, Jaime is lean - but more on the lean-not-really-fit-more-like-what-Simon's-bod-would-be kind of build. If he was portraying a rock star, I'd get it. But he was portraying a young man who was trained to fight at a young age. I mean come-on ever Taylor Lautner took the pains to buff up for the role of Jacob, Jaime could have at least done the same thing.

But even casting "looks" and body-type aside, I was hoping Jaime would at least charm me with his acting. But my golly! He mumbled 85% of his lines, his timing was off, he made Jace come off as a weak secondary character. Even Simon and Alec showed more "attitude" than Jaime.

I'm sure Jaime's a great guy with a great personality, but quite frankly his acting skills leave much to be desired. He tried to play Arthur in the TV series, Camelot, and failed, I tried to give him a 2nd chance in this movie, but even with low expectations, he could not even meet those. The only role he fit perfectly was the role he played in Sweeny Todd - which was creepy-boyfriend-stalker-secondary-character type. If he played a troubled young rock star with substance abuse, I think he'd fit the bill. But hot hero, with a hot head and trigger-happy attitude and a dark past - erm - no, Jaime, just plain no.

I mean no offense to Jaime, but I'm just sayin'.

Olivia Whiting FAQU NO!!!! I'm makin the dam movie!!!

message 141: by Paige (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paige Yin I've got to say one thing though, to all those not happy with the TMI movie, they did not make the movie to please we all existing fans. One of the reason why a book will be make into a movie is because the author wanted to promote her books so that it will sell better, to gain the said fandom more fans. Everyone knows no movie could ever be better than the book anyway.

Learn to see it as a separate thing, it might actually make you feel better about both.

message 142: by Naomi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Naomi Speakman Despite how awful the movie adaption was, it's understandable why it was swallowed down the drain. Let's not forget the confusing storyline of TMI, or the magic involved in the books, or the subplots, or the different perspectives of the characters, or how much actually happened over 498 pages or so.
Despite that they've managed to cut and change parts of it to make it all fit and make at least a little sense. They've had to shape it, add things, take things out, change fractions of the storyline. Twilight is different - the story was based strictly on the relationship of Bella and Edward, and really nothing else.
TMI is not as complex as that. I think they've done a damn good job with it despite everything.

message 143: by Claire (new) - rated it 5 stars

Claire I would want to see the movie but I don't thing it will do well because City of Bones sucked and if viewers know how bad City of Bones was they will assume that Infernal Devices will be just as bad

Actually, I won't pick up the book if it is not for the movie. City of Bones frustrates me when I pick it up years back, I can't get through Clary's voice, that she annoyed me. Not to mention Jace.... >.> It was the movie which changed my opinion about the whole thing. The first three books of TMI still annoyed me as I read, but because of the movie I was able to get through them, by the second book I was actually hooked on Malec. But you see, somewhat, the movie helped.

Not to mention, some people just decided to buy the whole set of books home before she tried the first book because they think the movie is so awesome (I worked in a bookstore so I know) >.>

And @Clary Speakman I agree with you too. <3
