The author responded quickly to my PM! She says the book has 145,662 words so it should count and I won't need to talk to Jenny about it. It will even go on my list of 'chunksters'.

That is a very tough call, Barb. Cookbooks are hard, and we are considering not counting them for Round III. (Several people have some 'tagged' for Round II.) Countess Paige or I will probably have to go to B&N to check out the physical book. Looking at it on-line shows a lot of pictures, but then it goes on for awhile with just text.
Please bear with us. Thank you for your patience.

That is wonderful news, T.

Don't worry about it, LK, I just won't count it, it's not that big a deal :) And yes, I can see the issue with cookbooks, especially those with lots of photos.

It's a complete hardship ;)

It's currently on a team mate's shelf (the audio version which supposedly has 3 pages!) but I'll leave it there for this update and message her when I have her decision if that's ok?

Pigletto of team LJB has a book on her shelf without a page count.
Her shelf is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...
The book in question is: Three Graces
Thanks!

Thanks, LK!

LOL Well, if you're looking for an *excuse to go to the bookstore, who am I to take that away? :)

I am currently reading (almost finished) a PDF ARC from a brand new author. The book was just released on Amazon in Kindle format yesterday and is listed at 200 pages The PDF I am reading (think 8.5x11 pages) is 104 pages long. I just found it here on good reads.. I would like to use this in the challenges but not sure if I can. What should I do?
The book is "Saving Grace" by C.L. Champlain.
Thanks

What do I do in a case like this?

Will do.

The Page count of the PDF book is 66713. Hope that helps in determining whether I can add it to the challenge. Thanks

Kari, 66,713 divided by 250 = 266.8 pages = Approved.

Thank you :)

I came across The Summons
ISBN 0385503822
The page count shown is incorrect at 245 pages. This edition actually has 341 pages. Is this the place to bring it to attention for correction on the site?
Thanks!

If that is not the edition you read, the only thing I can do is create an edition with this bookcover (the one to which you linked):

That would be great LK. I picked it up a few days ago in a used bookstore and noted the page number discrepancy when I was adding it to my books.

Lisa Kay wrote: "Is it hardback or paperback, Rhonda?"
Hardback.

Please could you have a look at this one for me? I've found it on Amazon with the kindle version listed as having 160 pages ( http://www.amazon.com/Possession-In-D... ) and it's available as part of a two short story book with 320 pages ( http://www.littlebrown.co.uk/Books/de... ) but I haven't managed to find a word count (I have no idea where you manage to find so many of them!)

It's currently on a team mate's shelf (the audio version which supposedly has 3 pages!) but I'll leave it there for this update and message her when I have the decision if that's ok?

I know it is Sunday and it is 2 books I have read and there are no doubts they are both long enough so no hurry.

original post: Don't know if this has been asked because I'm not reading through 13 pages of text right now. I feel so dumb... how do you find a word count on Worldcat? I go there and I see nothing obvious about finding a word count. When I did an ISBN search for one title, it just brought me to 3 versions of the book so I clicked on the first one and all I saw was a bunch of words that describe the book and some symbols and numbers that mean nothing to me.
Tried Ingram and I'm just lost.
I'm pretty frustrated. How do I verify word counts for chunksters if I don't even know what I'm looking for? Thanks for any help.
*posted in Capt group for chunkster redemption, too

I'll keep researching for an actual word count, Claire. However, it doesn't look promising. It looks like an in-between book (thus, the 0.5 numbering) and on audio is only about three hours.

With this one, we will allow it, even though it doesn't have a paperback edition to verify page count. We've talked to several people who agree is is long enough to count as a regular read. However, it won't be allowed for a "chunkster."

We are NOT currently updating any Kindle data, as they are about to "take over" and do their thing anyway. All our work would be for naught.

In my research, this book was included in this anthology: The Other Side to which it was then released as an audiobook. It is classified as a novella and the audiobook is around 3 hours long. I cannot find the word count either.
Based on this information, I would say that it is less than 40,000 words and will not count for this challenge.
Claire - the "3 pages" identified for the audiobook is the number or disks/CDs which is how GR records the "pages".

Yes, "pages" meaning CDs.

Both GR and Amazon show 464 pages. Do I look for the publisher to find a word count? Find the audio or ebook version if it exists and use that info? I'm so lost...and feel like I'm just missing something obvious here. I even Googled 'word count for blah blah book title author' and found just a bunch of links on writing novels. With the book being so close to the 450 page count for chunkster eligibility, I was hoping to find word count verification.

Baroness Blue - I would say to just post it in the redemption thread and we will take care of it. While I appreciate the help of you looking for the word count, don't stress over it!

I would be grateful if one of the librarians will check it and see that I haven't made too many mistakes.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"
It looks great, Jane. I just added duration and combined it with its fellow editions.

Yep! The rule of thumb we've been using is to divide by 250. 61,620 words = 246 pages.

Thanks!

Elegy for Eddie by Jacquie Winspear
Amazon says 368 pages
Kindle says 449 pages
Goodreads says 335 pages
and
The English Girl by Daniel Silva
Amazon says 496 pages
Kindle says 473 pages
Goodreads says 496 pages
What are the amount of pages you find for both books that I can use for various challenges?
