Cody | 187 comments T.C. would you say that all we need to do is just believe and confess nothing more?

message 52: by T.C. (new)

T.C. Slonaker | 344 comments Mod
Truly believe, yes.

message 53: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Do you mind me asking what religion/denomination you are?

message 54: by T.C. (new)

T.C. Slonaker | 344 comments Mod
I am a Protestant Christian. The church I have attended for the past 15 years is no-denominational. However, I grew up in a Church of the Nazerene, moved to a Baptist church, then a Pentacostal church, and then a Church of the Brethren before I got married and moved to our current church.

So basically, I'm just a Christian.

Cody | 187 comments What is a Church of the Brethren?

Hmm. Let me remember. CoB is a church that is known especially for
pacifism (staying completely out of war and military undertakings), they broke away from the Baptist church, being known as Anabaptists. They were the first ones to start baptizing by going completely under the water, so they were called the Dunkers. Very similar to Mennonite churches and you will often see the old order ladies walking around with the little white hats. (I had one, but I forget what it was called. I only wore it for communion).

I live in Pennsylvania, so we see the Amish, and Mennonites, and Brethren all around.

(Side note - Amish Mafia is quite an interesting show.)

(If you don't hear from me in a few hours, I'm headed to bed now. :) )

message 57: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Well goodnight and sweet dreams hun. Ok I have heard of Dunkers and Anabaptists.

message 58: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments Well, we also believe in Jesus Christ (He is the actually reason why the Christian society even exists, and then branched off), and that he died to give us salvation. Everybody before Him went to a place called 'Limbo' when they died, unable to get eternal salvation or go to Hell straight off. So, when Jesus gave himself up, everybody had the ability to go to Heaven.

I guess Protestants and Catholics have a pretty similar view of the way we go to Heaven.

T.C. Slonaker | 344 comments Mod
Honestly, Abigail, I believe that's true. If you believe Jesus saved you from your sins, you are a Christian, no matter what church you go to. :)

message 60: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments EXACTLY!!!

message 64: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments I know this is another subject change, but I think I need to bring this up: What do you all about abortion?

message 65: by Christi (last edited Mar 18, 2013 01:43PM) (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments I believe it's wrong. No exceptions.
I might add some subjects like that to the interests folder and rename it to "interests & hot topics" or something like that. In case people want to talk about things like abortion, homosexuality, gun control - things that get a lot of attention.

message 66: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments I believe abortion is wrong. no two ways about it.

message 67: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) I agree with that. Completely and totally.

message 68: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) Oh yeah and hi! I'm kinda new :)

message 69: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Hi Livi Welcome :)

message 70: by Christi (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments Hi there!

message 71: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) :) (random subject change) What do you guys think about same sex relationships and marriages? I just couldn't image being in a relationship with another girl. It's kinda obvious that's not what God intended. (Sorry if that comes off offensive :( I'm not very good at being tactful)

message 72: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments No No don't worry about it Livi. I do have a problem with the sin not the sinner

message 73: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) That's exactly what I think! A friend of mine (a girl) supposedly has a girlfriend but I'm not sure. I don't want to be saying something and it ends up offending her, but I just can't see that relationship.

message 74: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Then be careful on what you say. If something you do say does offend her then tell her how you truly feel and why you feel that way. Preach the Bible to her

message 75: by Christi (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments Yeah, I do think it's wrong. I believe God intended it to be man and woman. That's it.

message 76: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) I wish people didn't think Christians are trying to push their religion on others whenever they talk about God and forgiveness. Whenever I try to share, I get brushed off or shot down by some of my close friends. On the bright side, my best friends are all involved in the church, so we have a "common denominator" so to speak. (Sorry about that joke. I'm doing math homework :P)

message 77: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Well that's good that you and your best friends are all involved in the church. If they are your friend then they will listen to you and not brush you off.

message 78: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) And I've found that my best friends never ever ever fight with me. And if we have a dispute, we always forgive each other minutes after. It's a really good feeling.

message 79: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments Cody wrote: "Then be careful on what you say. If something you do say does offend her then tell her how you truly feel and why you feel that way. Preach the Bible to her"

Exactly. it's the sex attraction you should hate, but not the sinner. the attraction is the temptation, which can be fought off.

message 80: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments I agree Abigail. Daily pray and exercise with God will help you overcome anything and everything

message 81: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) For me the attraction just seems... Wrong. Just wrong. I don't hate the misled people, just the things that they do.

message 82: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Cody wrote: "Well that's good that you and your best friends are all involved in the church. If they are your friend then they will listen to you and not brush you off."

That's always good. Its nice to know that you can have a dispute with your best friends and they won't turn their backs on you because of it

message 83: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) I know people who as soon as you don't follow them around like a lost puppy, they turn their make on you and despise you. And then they seek your company again!

message 84: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Never hate the people

message 85: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Pray for those people and don't give up on them. Be a shining light in their dark world

message 86: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) I'm not exactly the nicest person though. I wish I was, but I'm not. I can be sarcastic, arrogant, annoying, unforgiving, and it's really difficult to pray and say "umm. Hey god! In a terrible person, and I really need your help"

message 87: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments I can sarcastic and everything you listed. Everyone has their faults. That's what makes us human. Instead of saying you are a terrible person try saying God I need your strength to do better. Your courage, wisdom, peace, comfort to do better today.

message 88: by Olive (new)

Olive (olivejean) Just one day at a time :) brb I'm going to eat I'm starving practically to death!

message 89: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Then eat! :P

Actually, i'm like that, but worse sometimes, but i pray/ I always ask God to help me be a better person, and to teach me love. And I pray whenever I'm scared. It really, actually works.

message 91: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments Prayer is the most powerful thing in the world

message 92: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments Yes, yes it is.

message 93: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments :)

message 94: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments these days, I've been trying to pray more, because I found a scary website, got scared, and decided I need to strengthen my relationship with God.

message 95: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments A nice thing to do. Praying has always made me feel better

message 96: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments i feel peace, like a relief off my shoulders. What about you?

message 97: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments That this knotted feeling in my stomach is finally gone. I feel I can stand taller, prouder. I don't feel so weighed down.

message 98: by Christi (new)

Christi (trumpetchick) | 309 comments It's definitely what helped when I was having these anxiety attacks last month. Prayer, I believe, was the only thing that could really keep me calm.

message 99: by Cody (new)

Cody | 187 comments The presence of God can and will keep anyone at peace

message 100: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (oftheheavens) | 112 comments Cody wrote: "The presence of God can and will keep anyone at peace"
