Chasidy | 157 comments Sheila, I totally get what you're saying. I too miss the flirtacious and happy-go-lucky Nick. I'm anxious to see what's to happen with him in future books. Most especially to see how his relationships with the others play out.

Ilse Snell | 112 comments Sheila, you will definitely cry snot and tearsfor Acheron's story!!! and then you'll feel a lil sheepish for crying... and people will definitely start whispering thinking that you're at the point of no return.
but in the end it will be all worth it :)

Lauren, dont jump the line :) try and read the other books first...

Chasidy | 157 comments Ilse wrote: "RE: Nicky's change in personality.... is it perhaps because he drank of Stryker's blood and became part Daimon?"

**spoilers**

Nicky's attitude changed when his mother died. Remember when Acheron basically cursed him when he found out Simi slept with Nick? I think from then on he's been different. His attitude on life, his personality, etc...

message 160: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments Haha well I went for it anyway. It was actually a quick read. Finished it in a couple of hours. I did enjoy it didn't feel really lost with Jaden, I liked Nim. Him and Simi and the toy thing was so cute. But now I will go and read the Dream Hunter books. I really do hope Nick and Ash can be friends again and he stops moping around so much. I did feel bad for Stryker. He really does have a heart.

hehehehehe... re: Stryker in OSN *plegh!!!*
i hate it when bad guys that i've grown to hate throughout the series suddenly has a reason for being bad...
oh well. I will still read it, and most deifitely enjoy the story :)

Lauren | 126 comments The new book that comes out in Aug Bad Moon Rising will that be a paper back or hard back?

message 167: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne according to amazon uk it's paperback::but::its more expensive than paperbacks are usually::no reason given as far as i can see::

message 168: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments hmmm ah who cares I am gonna buy it anyway..... lol
can't break up the set.

Mojca | 84 comments Adrienne wrote: "according to amazon uk it's paperback::but::its more expensive than paperbacks are usually::no reason given as far as i can see::"

In US there will be a hardcover edition. In the UK, Piatkus publishes paperbacks of SK novels, but they're trade and not mass market, so it explains the price. Also, if I remember correctly SK mentioned it's almost as long as Acheron, so there's another reason for the higher price.

message 170: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments I heard the same thing about how long its gonna be.... It's a lot of story for Aimee and Fang I think she said. I can't wait !

message 171: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne ok duh question::what the difference between Trade and Mass MArket::

message 172: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments Trade is a bit bigger (and larger).

For example I have my bookshelves made specifically for MMP size, so trade or hardcover books don't fit, unless I stack them like bricks. *sigh*

message 173: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments Oh, and of course the difference is in the price tag.

message 174: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Think of it this way: mass market are the compact square ones on sale at the drug stores and supermarkets. Trade paperbacks are the larger ones. If you're in the US, most all your SK books are mass market.

message 175: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments Ok so pretty much everyone has cried at Ash's book. Has any one shed a tear for any other DH books?
I have been an sap with a couple of the books.I am gonna say **SPOILER** just in case.

Acheron of course the first 400 pages need I say more

Fantasy Lover- when Julian sold his ring to buy Grace her books after the orginal ones where destroyed.

Kyrain's book- when he was in that body bag and Amanda was begging him not to leave her - that broke my heart

and then Devil May Cry- when Kat was showing Ash images of her younger. She was asking if her daddy would love her... Poor Ash

yeah it's the little things that get me to shed a tear some times.

message 176: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments omg! i'm such a girl! i cried and cried for Acheron...
and i sniffed a lil with fantasy lover... with Julien's family abandonment and with Kyrian's crucifixion... and the way he loved his wife... he didnt even have the heart to kill her (even though she so richly deserves it). and i had a huge lump in my throat for wherever Zarek was concerned.

ok so.... dont kill me... but,i'm reading Dark prince of Christine feehan now (such a big mistake!!!) basically dragging myself through and deliberately not thinking about the plot holes and the general mistrust i have for the author.
one screw-up is one too many... and she has numerous in one book!!! *sigh* what can i say... i'm a glutton for punishmnent... masochist! lol! probably my punishment for deviating from SK's books....
it definitely made me appreciate SK's writing and her style... and her characters... and her plots... and her EVERYTHING!!!!

message 177: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments I have her books on my tbr list .... so she is not good I take it?

message 178: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne i tried to read the Christine feehan books ::note the word tried::they just weren't for me tho::i know some people love these and its very much personal taste::i would never say don't try them::you may love them:)::

message 179: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne at the moment i'm in between DHs with Poison Study::so my next book is Dream Warrior::and i'll start this as soon as i'm done with PS::i'm looking forward to reading this one::but then::well theres a long long wait until the next book::actually the only book i've not read is the first on Fantasy Lover::so i may grab a copy::to tide me over until August::

message 180: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Hendrix (sheilahendrix) I think I've cried from almost all of them I've read.

message 181: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Ilse & Lauren, I totally misted up during all of those scenes and more. One great thing about Kenyon is that you really do care for the majority of the characters.

As for Feehan, I'm not a fan. Of the ones I've read, the men are far too dominating, the women fall into the simpering female category, and I'm not into the pre-destined mate aspect.

Also, I found it very all talk, little to no action. You spend a lot of time in the characters' heads as opposed to the action-packed storylines SK puts out.

That said, I have a friend who ADORES both series. I got her hooked on Dark Hunters, but I couldn't get into the Carpathians.

Oh, and all the molten passion and the word sheath and all that other purple prose!

Just not my cup of tea.

Chasidy | 157 comments Adrienne wrote: "i tried to read the Christine feehan books ::note the word tried::they just weren't for me tho::i know some people love these and its very much personal taste::i would never say don't try them::yo..."

I tried too. I couldn't even get pass the first two chapters. Maybe I'll try and pick the book up again when I have nothing, absolutely NOTHING to read.

As for DH's I cried for, other than Ash, I think...
Zarek and Valerius. Their stories are so.. heartbreaking!

message 183: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments I cried like a baby reading Fantasy Lover. I must've read it more than twenty times, know it almost by heart, and still cry at the end, when he prefers to face eternal damnation than to "use" her to gain his freedom.
Actually I cried more in her first few books than in the latest, with the exception of Acheron.
___

As for Christine Feehan. Big fan here. I love her books, I'm weird that way. I don't even mind the multiple "Feehanisms" in her Carpathian series, though she's improving on that front. And the women are improving as well, standing up to the domineering man, taming the beasts, so to speak.

As for action, you can go with her GhostWalker series for that. The books still have the predestined-mate issue, but they're much more action packed (hand-to-hand and armed combat instead of vampires going for each other's throat).

message 184: by Adrienne (last edited May 20, 2009 12:09AM) (new)

Adrienne i definately need to grab a copy of Fantasy Lover::i think it was b/c i couldn't get hold of a copy when i first started to read them::and our library dosen't have a copy either::actually they very rarely have the first book in any series::why not?::it so annoying!::that i missed it out::

actually most of her books have made me cry::or brought a lump to my throat:

message 185: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments Lauren wrote: "I have her books on my tbr list .... so she is not good I take it?"

yah Lauren, I agree with Adrienne... a total personal choice... but PERSONALLY it made me want to pull out my nails with pliers.
but to each its own...

heheheheheh... SK does tend to make us more interested in the characters yes... and her plots and writing are infinitely better...
Feehan, well... Feehan needs to expand her vocab. and methods of describing... and characters...
the words "Little one" and "Velvet sheath" and "black velvet magic" is forever entrenched in my mind... leaving the feeling that i need to bleach my brain to get it out. *shudder* did i mention Feehan owns poodles? enough said... *evil sniggers*

message 187: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments Alathea, I loved Fantasy Lover as well... I sometimes sit in my office at work, pretending to be working when in actual fact i'm re-reading the story of Julien of Macedon the Spartan general and Grace ... *sigh* and what puzzles me is that i find it interesting even though i know whats going to happen!
:D

re: Feehan... there was a point in the book where i actually wanted to read the next book, just to give her a chance at redemption. that feeling quickly dissolved...

message 188: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments Well, I'm reading Feehan's Burning Wild at the moment and have two words to say. Hot damn!
It's not action packed, but there are no "feehanisms" in sight, it's completely different from her other books, both in language and style. It's gritty, it's angsty, it's (as she said) not for everyone, especially not for those who don't like dominating, alpha men, because Jake is that multiplied by ten.
I admit I had a hard time liking him at the beginning, despite the rather graphic portrayal of his childhood (reminiscent of Ash, but without the sexual abuse) that "justified" his actions and behavior. But after a few chapters he kinda grows on you. And the heroine, despite being "female" isn't a pushover, which is somewhat refreshing compared to Feehan's early heroines.

message 189: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments Alathea, i swear... curiosity will be sure to kill me one day. I will do a bit of back drop reading on "burning wild".

message 190: by Denell (new)

Denell | 14 comments Busy with Dream Chaser and loving it so far! There is a definately a change in Sherrilyns writing starting with Devil may Cry.

I read Acheron first and then only went to read the other books, so needless to say some of the things in Acheron I didnt understand completely due to not having the background. Therefore I'm going to re-read Acheron after Dream Chaser, then its on to One Silent Night and Dream Warrior!

What am I going to do when its all done????

Ive tried reading other books in between..but when you know there's more DH books to be read..its extremely difficult. Its only with the help of the Force that I managed to read a crime fiction book in between! I was sure the villian was gonna have some paranormal abiliites! hahahahahahahaah

Oh yeah Dream Chaser...Jaden...oeeeeee. He's just been introduced and i'm lovin him! And I mean born from the 1st Power! Darkness. Chaos! When is his book coming! I want it I want it.

Plus...Sherrilyn will have to become an immortal..I'll just have to summon her from the dead if she dares die before I know all!! :)

yeah I am curious now to read one of her books. From what you guys are saying it sounds like I am not gonna like her much.

I really like SK's style of writing as most of you ladies do... so my thinking is I have the same tastes as you do too. But I will give her a try to find out for sure.

hahahahahahahaha!!! Nella :)
I need to get Dream Chaser from you over the weekend... to rid my mind from the extremities it had to endure while reading Feehan's work...

re: SK becoming immortal... well...she will be a goddess, and i will summon her to human form every chance i get... untill she strikes me with a light bolt... even then, i still think i'll continue :)

message 193: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments Lauren, ok... my opinion might have been a tad strong. but try her out... and let me know what you think.
oe! wait... i feel the Oracle of Delphi trying to push through...
When the earth is black... and the sky is green... only then..will the seas of the north and south combine to display the arcane view needed to get a true appreciation of the Feehan's situation....

hehehehehehehe.... ok, this is what happens when i dont have any more Dark hunter books to read ;)

message 194: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 126 comments Hahahaha i feel ya on the no more Dark Hunter books to read. i feel so empty inside when I can't read them.

I will definately try her our for my self to see if I like her. I have her all over my TBR list to not give her a try hehe.

message 195: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Ilse you make me laugh::i love you:: Feehan and her poodles::says it all really::RAOFLMAO::i thought i may try with her again::but no::i had the books from the library and only read chapter 1 of the first book::i must admit at first i thought they were written in the sixties or early seventies::

message 196: by Ilse (new)

Ilse Snell | 112 comments hehehehehe Adrienne, Feehan books in the 60's or 70's... i actually never thought of that... but now that you mention it... hehehhehe...combine that thought with the poodles and we'll have a whole new different ball game... *Ilse stifling her sniggers*

ok, wait, i'm crossing the line... Alathea is a big Feehan fan, so i should really stop attacking Feehan ... after all, she got published. And who knows, Lauren might be a fan as well one day...
and then they might gang up and slate me for slating Feehan...

As for the humour, thanks Adrienne, i assure it, its a complete default... brought on by the lack of SK's reading in the pass few days...
Once Denell hands me the 2 much needed SK books over the weekend, i will be restored to my former accounting self ;)
