Adrienne Things seem to have been quite around here lately::i know from other groups that there are alot of us reading various Sherrilyn Kenyon books::and thought it may be a nice idea to get us all together to discuss which ever books we're reading now::

message 2: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I'll start:: I've just started reading Dark Side of the Moon::I'm really really enjoying it:: i love Ravyn and Susan and the raport they seem to have:: this story is not like the previous books in the series i've read:: there's still alot of humerous banter going on but Susans charater is very strong. and he story line is slightly different:: anyone else reading/read this one?:: what do/did you think of it?::

message 3: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) I liked Susan and Ravyn.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a story set away from the New Orleans crew, but I thought the characters were interesting. You're right that Susan is a strong character-with martial arts training! I loved that she was well able to hold her own, without being a total hard-ass. The banter between them was great. And I love any time Savitar shows his sexy self!

My favorite aspect of this one was the squires. Learning more about their organization was welcome-they're always present, but other than Nick and Otto, we don't get to know them.

message 4: by Holly (new)

Holly (velvetsun) I finished reading Devil May Cry the other day. I have to admit, it was probably my least favorite of the DH books. But, i still liked it. I guess my main problem is that i have never liked Kat. And her having her own book didn't change that for me. :(

message 5: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Well that makes me sad, Holly! What did you think of Sin?

message 6: by Holly (new)

Holly (velvetsun) I really liked Sin. And i can't even pinpoint what it is about Kat that i don't like. But, like i said, i still liked the book overall...it was just my least favorite so far.

message 7: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) ::whew::

So long as you liked Sin!

:)

message 8: by Stav (new)

Stav (voliotisa) I really liked Dark Side of the Moon...the story was a bit refreshing after all the others...My heart breaks for Nick though...

I just finished Dream Chaser, and I loved it, a much strong dream-hunter novel compared to what else I've read, plus some more insight into the demon world...

Kenyon just keeps expandning on her world with each book, and I can't wait to learn more about it...and I'm really intrigued with this Jaden character...hmmm

message 9: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Did you love Xypher? Please tell me you loved Xypher.

I think he's hot as hell.

message 10: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) And for anyone who has shared the opinion that the Dream Hunter books have been weaker, do NOT skip Dream Chaser.

It's a really strong contribution, and the plot is more Dark Hunter than Dream Hunter in style. Lots of new info, lots of demon action (both charonte and gallu), and ghosts! Can't forget the ghost aspect. And Xypher is an angry, angry man...and delicious.

I also liked the police preocedural slant to it. It's a different twist and I liked it. Plus, Jaden is introduced!

message 11: by Stav (new)

Stav (voliotisa) Xypher Xypher Xypher...

I totally love his bad ass.....LOVE IT!

message 12: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) I was going to have to seriously question your taste in men if you didn't!

Him, Valerius and Zarek, baby. Them's be my men.

message 13: by Adrienne (last edited Mar 30, 2009 11:52PM) (new)

Adrienne I like Kat:Haven't read her/sins book yet: its the next one on my list::i love the world that SK has created ::altho' i found the first few books to be a bit similar::things have changed now that i'm further into the series::i'm just lovin it:: Fav men so far Zarek,Alexion and Ravyn:)

Mojca | 84 comments Michelle M. wrote: "Did you love Xypher? Please tell me you loved Xypher..."

Xypher is #1 on my favorite Dream-Hunter list (as I wrote in a post somewhere, I have three favorite lists, for each branch of Hunters out there).
He had a lot in common with Zarek if you ask me, that's also a big plus for him. I like my boys to be a little on the badass side. LOL

I'm not currently reading anything penned by SK.
Dream Warrior is still in my TBR pile, but I don't want to read it until I finish One Silent Night (I'm all for continuity), but I'm a little weary of that one. I don't know why.

I LOVE XYPHER!!

The Flooze (the_flooze) Alathea, I love me my bad ass moody men, so I feel you.

You and Chasidy have excellent taste.

Xypher...ahhh.

Isn't he just something? I love the begining scene with him in the factory. The way Kenyon described him in his unirorm... *sighs* to die for. ;)

message 18: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Uniform? No no no! You're talking about Jericho! Silly girl!

message 19: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) At least I think you are...he's the only uniformed man I can think of!

message 20: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne i haven't read this yet but Xypher sounds like my knda guy too:)::oh yes:: bad ass moody guy::

message 21: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) It's the one Dream Hunter story that doesn't feel at all like filler. It's fast paced with a great heroine and introduces lots more info on the different demons. It reads a lot more like a Dark Hunter book.

He's totally yum.

message 22: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments Oh I feel like I fell into a room of long lost friends with this group. Xypher is interesting for sure, Sin is appealing, but I have to admit I read each book trying to uncover more and more about Acheron.. Wow, what a God! I love getting lost in this world, I have been on a marathon of reading for the last couple of months since I found the books, and I am currently on Upon a Midnight Clear. Have to say that so far I am having a tough time getting through this book , whick sucks because I love this series. It feels like Sherrilyn either rushed writing it, or someone else wrote it. It doesn't have the same feelings or depth of characters as the other books and is more "wordy"... Anyone else feel that way?

message 23: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) That's the problem with some of the Dream Hunter books, and is why I specified that Xypher's story doesn't follow the Dream Hunter format. Apart from Xypher's, I find them lacking in depth as compared to the Dark Hunter tales.

I look at them as quickies to tide me over til the next Dark Hunter comes out. They are filler books to me, designed to show us stuff that's going on behind the scenes, and to expand on info that's important to the Dark Hunter world, but wouldn't necessarily flow or fit into a Dark Hunter book.

Midnight Clear was not one of my favorites, but it gives you a lot of insight into how the Dream Hunters came to be what they are, what they've endured, and gives info that (not that YOU know this yet, Tiffany) we'll need for the next story arc.

I don't know what part you're up to, but there is a turn around point where things get more fast paced. And to understand more intimately what the oneroi have suffered through was info I appreciated by the end. Zeus is a bastard.

Now...Deimos. Deimos' appearances alone made reading that one worth it. I LOVE him. I want lots more of him, and I think Ms. Kenyon's going to oblige.

message 24: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments Ok.. I will get through this one. I figured it was a lot of background info, but it still didn't read like any of the others. I wasn't sure if I was burnt out or the book was just off. I (confession) Read Dream Warrior out of sequence, it was before I could get my hands on the other books.. So I sort of know what's coming ;) I just want to get to Acheron.. I have it waiting for me. I like Deimos as well, I liked him in Dream Hunter and Devil May Cry, which were great books. I guess I have a thing about characters who continue to show up in the other books, you get to know them more and can appreciate there humor and character. Another reason I can't wait for Acheron, and why I fell in love with this series.

message 25: by Chasidy (new)

Chasidy | 157 comments Michelle M. wrote: "Uniform? No no no! You're talking about Jericho! Silly girl!"

Oh crap, I am talking about Jericho. Xypher is the one with Simone.. lol I remember him now... oh yes he's something.

message 26: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Lol. Oh, Chasidy, it's all right. I supposed they are all somethin'.

Somethin' good!

Bad, Tiffany! Oh you out-of-order readers! But still, at least you've gone back and read them. Some people read a book from very late in the series and then wonder why they don't like it and why it doesn't make sense. Drives me mad!

I love the recurring character pop-up. Hey, it's you! Glad to see you still walkin' around, breathin' and stuff and you haven't disappeared off the face of the earth! I love that Kyrian and Julian still pop in from time to time, despite the fact that they are supposed to be living nice CALM lives now.

I love Deimos and his brother playing chess. I cracked up.

message 27: by Chasidy (last edited Apr 04, 2009 05:26PM) (new)

Chasidy | 157 comments I feel so out of sync with the DH world. Its been a while since I picked up a book considering Jericho's was the most recent. I think it's about time I get back up to date with reading the more current DH books. I don't know how many times I've read SK's earlier works. For a while I think I became obsessed with BDB but I think it's time for me to become aquainted with my Hunters again. :)

message 28: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I like to read the DHs interspersed with the BDB boys::everything makes sense then::

message 29: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments Ok... Finished the book, and though it wasn't one of my favorites of the series, I really did enjoy Deimos in this one. I reallly enjoyed the holiday exerts at the end of the book the most though.. It touched everyone that I wonder about. It made the book worth owning. On to Xypher! Which you all have me excited about!

message 30: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) See, Tiffany! So worth it for the Deimos glimpses...didn't I tell ya'? I certainly need more of him.

Oh, Xypher. I was at dinner last night and my friend and I discussed him and some others in awed and raptured tones.

Whilst her husband and another friend looked on in confusion and dismay.

So we changed the topic...for all of five minutes and then went right back to DH talk, despite her husband threatening that we could walk home.

Tee hee...

message 31: by Adrienne (last edited Apr 06, 2009 09:07AM) (new)

Adrienne i ordered the final 6 books of the series from the library::i still have them all to read as i've becomed *distracted* by some other books::this is the problem when i read more than 3 series at a time::my next book will be Sins story::and i'm starting this when i finish with *Kiss of Midnight*::i desperately need to get up to date with this series::i find them sooooo enjoyable because the storylines are never the same::starting from the beginning of the series you see how SKs style has changed too::i think the first book of Acheron was unlike anything i've read before:: i read this book first::going back to *Fantasy Lover* was a bit of shock because the style is totally different:: i love my DHs and can't go for long with out a DH fix:

message 32: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments Michelle, Did you guys end up walking home? :)

What can I say but Xypher, Xypher, Xypher... mmmmm
That was a great book, and you are right it reads more like a DH story, which makes you want to keep turning the pages.

Time for Acheron! Life just got better... I really hope I love this book as much as I think I will.

message 33: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Tiffany, her hubby knows better than that!

Xypher is one my favorite books of the series. I rave about it all the time, especially since many people shy away from the Dream Hunter books. The story, and couple, are definitely a great addition to the series! Not to mention he's so terribly hot hot hot.

I'm glad you're another Xypher fan and that enjoyed the book!

message 34: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne i'm reading *Devil may Cry* and really enjoying it::started it this morning and i'm already nearly half way thru::and no i haven't been reading constantly lol just get so involved with the story and get quicker and quicker and quicker:: this is the book that Xypher is introduced::so i'm looking forward to that::i was also surprised that all the stuff about Ash is in there too::made for some good reading::

message 35: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments I agree with you Adrienne.. I really liked the book and couldn't put it down. All the info on Ash really cleared the air for me, and makes me see him, Artemis and Kat different then I did before. What a family!

message 36: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Devil May Cry...I loved Sin, I thought Kish was so funny, Deimos and the Furies are great-as is Xypher. I'm still not entirely sure how I felt about the brother aspect. But there were so many thrills and anxious moments! Plus, I liked Sin's chats with Appolymi...and his hatred of Artie, who proves ONCE AGAIN that she deserves the coveted Heifer of the Universe Award. Give that bizznitch a round of applause!

message 37: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne My next book is *meant * to be *Upon a Midnight Clear*::i've heard its not in keeping with the rest of the series::i confess i've had a peak::it seems ::well odd::so my question is::do i have to read it?::

message 38: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Adrienne, it is...but it isn't. I'm a Read Everything person.
Hmn. It's about the Oneroi. Goes more into the whole issue of the Oneroi's emotions. Reviews how the incident with Zeus actually went down. The storyline in and of itself isn't very important. But it sets up A LOT of shit for the next few books.

I don't think you'll be too thrown off without it.

Tiffany!! You just read it. Plot points that you desperately need-are there any in Midnight Clear?

Besides my Deimos of course.

thank you::I always feel as tho' i've missed out on something if i don't read the whole series::as its part of the bigger plot i'll give it a go:: can't bear having to trudge thru drivel tho' hence my question :):: i've taken another peak at it::the prints big:: wont take long to read Ha Ha :: i've actually just looked a the cover and seen that it's a *Dream Hunter* i tend to read these as a separate series (altho in order of the DH series) anyway so it may not be as bad as i think::

message 40: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Yeah, it's a Dream Hunter. It's not drivel. It's just slow. It does reach a point where it speeds up and gets more actiony, but it's a slow start. And yes, HUGE type! So you're right-I think I finished it in just a couple of hours.

message 41: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments And it's slightly connected to Dream Warrior's epilogue. Very slightly, mind you.

Personally I didn't care for it much, it's more of a filler than anything else...Of course anything with Deimos in is still worth reading.
Just send your brain for coffee before you start and you'll be okay. *grin*

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm on Dream Chaser and I love it. I've had a hard time getting into the Dream Hunter books (I do like them though), but not this one. I LOVE Xypher.

I'm not quite halfway done. I am really enjoying the book.

message 43: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Good woman!

Wow. So many people on GoodReads seem to be on Dream Chaser lately. I can't get over how many times ya'll have reminded me to mentally drool over Xypher!

And drool I do.

message 44: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Trevino | 19 comments Tiffany!! You just read it. Plot points that you desperately need-are there any in Midnight Clear?

Sorry.. I was stuck on Acheron the last few days, and have done nothing else.. Gods! That was a GREAT book... I could go on and on about that book.

BUT as for a "Midnight Clear" Adrienne, I just read it last week, and it was not one of my favorites, but I am glad I did read it. I, like Michelle enjoy reading the whole series. With this series I think it is important because her books always refer to past characters, and it makes it worth it to know who they are when they make a future appearance. Also at the end of the book is some great "outtakes" from other books that also gives you insight.

Is there anyone who wants to talk about Acheron with out spoiling it? Is that possible?

message 45: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne i've just started *Midnight Clear* so far so good::actually don't have a problem with it being short::or having BIG PRINT Ha Ha ::and::i've enjoyed what i've read so far::would love to talk about Acheron::perhapes one of us should set up a thread::note it as having spoilers then those who need to avoid::can::think i'll do it now::

message 46: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne oops::have noticed there is thread already on here::wont start a new one::will resurrect::

message 47: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments I'm not reading anything by SK at the moment. I don't feel the urge to get back into the DH world at the moment, which of course will change with Bad Moon Rising...And of course I'll wait for the paperback edition - I splurged with Ash, but he's special. ;)

message 48: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) This one's hardcover again? Shoot. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a copy for $12 like I did with Acheron. Grrr.

message 49: by Mojca (new)

Mojca | 84 comments Yeah, good luck with that one. I'll just wait...And steer clear of your reviews on GR. (Note to self: Good luck with that one, too.)

message 50: by Denell (new)

Denell | 14 comments Only recently discovered the amazing world of the Dark Hunters! Started with Acheron! Now started reading the series from the start although i wanted to know more about Kat and Sin and read that one too. I must agree! Xypher!! hott!!!! I have not read his book yet... savouring for last :)

Must say reading from the start and packing the novels in so quickly after each other (mostly cause I just cant stop) I find the continued romance trend a bit tedious. Thats the only think I dont like, its too predictable. But all and all just love how the whole story of the Dark hunters unfolds.
