I know!!! Hit 28 it puts so much into perspective. The old chick at the club now(so to speak), new ache or pain, anybody half your age is really still near the cradle, but my fave old enough to know better, but still young enough to not give a damn about it all! :D

Haha yes, he does arrogant and look down on you like nobody's business in the movies I've seen him in. I can soooo see him in the opening of Seize the Night and Tabitha staking his ass. But naturally he would be all "What's wrong with you woman?!" And still fall down to the ground haha. And I did say IF Valerius were black, Blair would fit him well.

And since I can't recall too many of our lighter complexioned actors out there doing an awesomely arrogant job. Well save for Bradley Cooper in Wedding Crashers, which was just ugh not my fave character for him. I'm stumped on who could play Valerius. Suggestions Manuela?

Sweety, get into my age and we talk again. And it pisses me off that the crushes of my youth did not age gracefully (Mel Gibson, Burt Reynolds, Charlton Heston, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme). I know they were already "old" when I was a teen. LOL Now the latest generation of actors is earning millions of dollars and is half my age. I did something wrong!

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Honestly dealing with all my mother's medical issues, etc. over the years since I was even younger than I am now. I gotta tell ya, I've emotionally I've been at your age for quite a while Manuela. So can definitely say for sure that although I may not have seen it all in my few years. I've definitely felt more than most that are far older than myself. And I used to have a thing for Jean-Claude too. His last commercial kind of amazed me he could still do the splits like that. And anything relating to Arnie these days, I think is still tainted with him having hooked up with his maid. Unfortunate but true. Burt is still a classic though.

In my immediate family we all are readers. My dad used to read books, my mom introduced me to the romance books (similar to Harlequin), my older brother was more into scientific books while the younger one collected science fiction novels and had at one stage over 10.000 of them on a bookshelf along the wall of his room."

LOL! Manuela, your younger sibling sounds like my uncle; I remember visiting him when he was young, and he had built AISLES of bookshelves into his apartment. (I think he had converted his living room into a library, since he lived alone.) Don't know if he still has all those books, which I believe were all science fiction, but dayum. XD

message 2806: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh my god, that sounds sooo awesome. A in house library like that. Not just a room but the whole shelves and everything to boot. That is wicked sweet.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh and I thought of a few more questions for ya Charlotte:

Q.8 If you weren't currently working the job you do now, what would be your dream job?

Q.9 What is one country you would love to move to or visit if you had the spare time?

Q.10 Which do you find more appealing? Boxers or Briefs? lol

I thought so, too. XD And the shelves were pretty darn close to floor-to-ceiling, if I remember correctly. I think he only had three or four aisles, but still. It was awesome. =)

message 2809: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Well to say the least, he could have run his own in house library to trusted peeps. Although that would be even more of a hoot. Have a public library card and a card for your uncle's library too, haha.

message 2810: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments ROFL! That would have been hilarious, to have a card for my uncle's library! XD

And yay, more questions! =D

Q.8 If you weren't currently working the job you do now, what would be your dream job?
Hmmmm ... most likely a scientist or at least a lab technician of some sort, lol. (And I will admit that I am not working my dream job right now. XD) I've always been fascinated by science. =)
Another dream option would be a writer.

Q.9 What is one country you would love to move to or visit if you had the spare time?
Most definitely Scotland, as my paternal grandfather was Scottish. (He spent his childhood in the western Highlands, as a matter of fact.) =)

Q.10 Which do you find more appealing? Boxers or Briefs? lol
Boxers. They're more fun to get into. ;)
Briefs are cute for kids, but on men ... eh, nah. They either sag or else they're like Speedos (and very, very few men can pull off Speedos). Although I can also definitely go for boxer briefs. XD

message 2811: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh coolz. Scientists do tend to make interesting discoveries and developments. But yea writers have a wee bit more fun and creative licensing too. ;)

Aww, that would be great to go some place with familial ties like that. Question within a question I guess. But do you guys have a family crest? I thought I read somewhere once that there are some older Scottish families that have their own family crest or something like that from the highlands.

LOL nice. I'm a definite fan of the boxer brief too. Boxers can be fun with all the designs too. But I think when a guy reaches a certain age speedos and anything that reminds you of a 7 year old have to go or never be approached at all.

message 2812: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Not only did my grandfather's clan have a crest, they also had their own plaid, too. =)

LOL, "speedos and anything that reminds you of a 7 year old have to go". SOOOO true. XD

message 2813: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments That is really amazing Charlotte. But to educate me further, exactly what are the crest and plaid for? Just family representation or something deeper? And feel free to elaborate plaid colors and crest design too. Very intriguing stuff. :)

I know, some of us have to grow up early. I was pampered because I am the baby, my younger brother is still older than me (he is just younger than my older brother)LOL. I was having a small midlife crisis when I was 29 1/2 because I looked back at my last ten years and had not achieved anything of what I wanted when I was 18. Now I am over 40, still have to achieve a few things but then I am not stressing out too much over this right now. I am sweating at the smaller things in life. Christmas eve in a few days and I still haven't done anything... LOL

Unfortunately the only person I could come up with passed away years ago. Alexander Gudenov

He played in Die Hard, Whitness and a few other movies but he was famous for his Ballet dancing.

Mhmm, how it happens sometimes. But the ironic thing though is the fact we are pretty similar in some ways Manuela. I'm the "baby" of the grandkids and youngest of my dad's for kids, and yet an only for my mom. I've also had a few times of looking back over my life and wondering where the time has gone for me to only have accomplished school stuff but nothing with real life traction. And although I can't say I ever been in your shoes in regards to your midlife crisis(and which I totally give you hulk size hugs for), I definitely know what it feels like to look at your life and realize it's not quite what you expected it to be. And it is good you are focusing on smaller in the present things. Sometimes that is the hardest thing of all to remember. That we all have not just a past or a future. But a present that needs just as much attention now, if not more than ever. And for Christmas I say go to the dollar store, get some red bows and stick on your porch and a quick wreath and there you go. ;)

Great choice on Alexander Dudenov. He does look like he could have made for a perfect Valerius.

message 2817: by Manuela (last edited Dec 22, 2014 07:30PM) (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments My late dad has a single daughter from his previous marriage, my older half sister and my mom is mother to three, my older brothers and me. The midlife crisis was mainly about being married and have children. Parts of my struggles have been rectified since then, others we (hubby and I) still work on. We built the house together and I learned to live in a new country, a different society and making a life for myself. Thanks for the hug though, appreciate it big times.
We have a wreath but I don't want to hang it outside with Mrs. Feral and her feral kids. The tree is not going up till tomorrow afternoon the earliest but I need to clean the window behind. I have to buy a squeegee window cleaner thingie... I forgot to pick up the sausages so I have to do that today sometime... I think I need a list or I will forget most of the stuff I need to do.

As for Alexander, he would have been such an awesome Valerius, I am sure of it. ;)

Yeah, basically just family representation, or rather allegiance to the clan chief. I don't think it really goes any deeper than that, lol. And actually, the notion of clan-specific tartans is a fairly modern one. Like 19th century modern, lol. Originally, tartan designs were more regional than anything, depending on available dyes and weavers. And tartans were banned for a while in Scotland.

From what I've read, there is a certain protocol to wearing the clan crest, which basically is that a clan member can only wear it as a badge, again to show allegiance to the clan. Unless you're the clan chief, then it's your property. ;D

Unfortunately, my mother and birth father had a rather nasty separation and divorce when I was very young, so I never really knew my father or his family. So much of what I do know (which ain't much, lol), comes from research.

And on a side note, I can relate with y'all about life crises and wondering about what happened to my life. Been there, done that for sure, and hugs to everyone who's been in that situation. =)

Ooooh ok, I gotcha. That is still pretty interesting though. A interesting way to carry forth family tradition. Great bit of family history to it all too. I'm curious though could you create your own family crest like since you mentioned not quite knowing your father's side that well. But to carry on the tradition and have the crest you create be like a branch off from your father's line.

message 2820: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments I probably could create my own crest ... but to create an official crest would require an awful lot of rigmarole. So I'm perfectly fine with wearing a crest badge (which would be perfectly legal for me to do), if I ever get around to ordering one someday. XD

Personally, I think that tartans are cooler since they're a lot more colorful. ;D

message 2821: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ah I gotcha. And yes colorful is definitely much more fun to work with.

message 2822: by Angie (new)

Angie | 102 comments Happy New Year everyone!! I have a slightly strange QOTD. What traditions, including foods to eat, do you and yours follow on New Year's Day? We've always had black eyed peas (for luck) on NYD, and we know you're supposed to have greens (so you'll have money all year) but my mom doesn't like any kind of cooked greens except cabbage, if that even counts. I've heard cornbread (also for money, because good cornbread is a golden color) too, but that was just in the last couple years.

Any others? I'm fascinated by these kinds of traditions and would love to know more.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Happpy New Year for you too!!
We have this tradition in which we eat asado at my house. I spent the night with my Grandmother, my dad and my little half-sister and on January 1st I come home whit the rest of my family

message 2824: by Angie (new)

Angie | 102 comments Nicole that sounds great! What kind of asado did you have this year?

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Just cow and chicken meat...with a salad and potatoes pure

message 2826: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Um other than still snacking on leftover goodies we don't do any special New Year's meals. So this year it's been a mixed bean stew and ham and some type of cheesy noodles with corn most likely.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Sounds really yommy to me xD

message 2828: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments In our family, we do a sort of "anti-meal", where we eat a bunch of stuff that would be considered appetizers. You know, things like mozzarella cheese sticks, jalapeno poppers, chili cheese fries or tots, and those bacon and cheddar potato skins. It's a sort of tradition that we started ourselves, lol, after weeks of feasting on holiday food (and leftovers). =)

Other than that, nothing fancy or special.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Haha I can't imagine how is to do that...if I don't eat correctly my mom will kill me xD
Sounds funny although

message 2830: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Luckily, we only do that once a year. =) Other times, we try to have a proper, sit-down meal. Key word here being "try". XD

You don't know what is the reason behind the laundry superstition? That's very interesting. I'm not trying to be overly intrisive or anything, but what country are you fr and so many paeople bit have access to dryers like we use in the states, though it does make us extra lazy and the NOW NOW NOW People!!

LOL, yeah, for emergencies I have a dryer too. LOL
I am from Germany but I live in Australia, better South Australia and what we have in abundance here is sun and heat. (At the moment we have fires raging in the Adelaide Hills and I am worried about friends who live up there and all their animals and the wildlife.)
I just prefer to hang clothes on the clothesline because it is cheap (no electricity bill for that) and the sun kills mites, the wind makes it fresh and all without any freshener sheets that end up in the trash.
I don't want to say I am ancient but I remember we did not have dryers then (in Germany) when I was a kid. I try not let my life be ruled by superstition although I am supersticious but I like that rule for it gets my hubby to finally get all his clothes into the laundry and after the last wash of the year it is like a holiday till the 6th. So, if my mom says it brings bad luck I believe her and if it is only for our family. I don't tell you not to wash and a lot of people do, especially those with big families. I just don't.

LOL! Yeah, we really enjoyed our fried cheesy items. XD But alas, no cherry cheesecake. ;)

message 2838: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ahh that sucks Charlotte. Although I think I saw walmart had these little cheesecakes on sticks. I forget the name of the company, cause other than the cheesecake they had like these 4 different cups of mousse and different layer cakes, a mini key lime pie, and those French macaroons. I'll definitely have to pick up a box have been dying to try a French macroon since forever.

message 2839: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments I think I've seen those before, but heck if I can remember who makes those little cheesecakes on a stick. =)

I am, however, thinking of trying to make mini cheesecakes sometime. The recipes I've seen, use a vanilla wafer for the crust ... and I could eat one or two without feeling guilty. XD

The French macaroons sound pretty good too. =)

message 2840: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ooooo mini cheesecakes sound great. Definitely good luck with that. I think I'm actually going to try for a no bake oreo cheesecake myself. I'm not much of a baker or even a cooker really. But since I can't find one anywhere where I live. Figured be time to try my hand at it.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Oooh, oreo cheesecake! Sounds awesome! =)

I think that will be a new year's resolution ... to try to make different and interesting desserts from time to time. =)

So of course, I have a new Question of the Day:
Has anyone made any interesting resolutions for the new year? If so, what are they?

And to clarify a bit, I don't mean the standard, "lose ____ pounds" or "maintain a cleaner house". XD It could be as simple as, "learn how to do macrame", or "try a new recipe", or something along those lines.

message 2842: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Most definitely. I just have visions of runny cheesecake dancing in my head at times haha. But I'm going to try and do my actual new year's resolution and be more positive. Which I'm not often that way. Highly optimistic, I am, but positive is definitely not one of my virtues.

Can't you do it at home? Hell as sub below as it's been lately I wasn't going to step outside just to head to the library to participate lol.
