Kristen Harvey Alright, first one down. I'll probably be making a ton of changes to this list on and off depending on what is on my shelf at home and what is in at the library. I really enjoyed the last in the Mortal Instruments trilogy. I hear she's started on the next trilogy as well. I'm glad to finally see loose ends wrapped up in this book and it was a quick read - for 500 + pages.

1. Valiant A Modern Tale of Faerie by Holly Black (#2)

2. True Blood by Patricia Waddell

3. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld, Book 1)

4. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (Alpha & Omega, Book 1)

5. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson, Book 3)

6. City of Glass by Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments, Book 3)

7. Storm Glass by Maria V. Snyder

8. Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr (if its out by the end of April.. says it will be.. not sure when the library will get it in)

9. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

1--My Favourite Earthling

2--Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michele Bardsley

3--Devil May Ride—

4--Year of the Griffin—

5—Dream Chaser by Sherrilyn Kenyon

6—Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

7—Rogue Hunter by Lynsay Sands

8--Secret Life of a Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks

9--Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready

Six down, 3 to go. But I'm going to take a couple of days off the challenge and finish off a couple of costumes--and maybe finish off the Vampire Academy novels. On Thursday I picked up book 2 and 3 from the library and I need to get them read so that I can pass them to Oz to read before my check-out time is up.

And I REALLY did like the book "Wicked Game". It was one of those books that one minute was tugging at your heart strings and the next making you indignent at the way the vamps were being treated. The vamp characters seem to be having SOME growth and change, which according to the mythos of this series wasn't supposed to be able to happen. A definate 4.5 out of 5 stars, in my opinion.

9.Dime Store Magic by Kelly Armstrong (Women of the Otherworld Series Book 3)

Mona Lisa Awakening (Monere Book 1) by Sunny Circle of Fire (Damask Circle series, book 1) by Keri Arthur Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, Book 1) by Patricia Briggs Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, Book 1) by Carrie Vaughn Witchling (Sisters of the Moon, Book 1) by Yasmine Galenorn Wages of Sin (Cin Craven, #1) by Jenna Maclaine Dragonborn by Jade Lee Hunter's Moon (Nightcreature, Book 2) by Lori Handeland Dime Store Magic (Women of the Underworld, Book 3) by Kelley Armstrong

I really liked Dragonborn by Jade Lee. Natiya and Kiril's love for each other had/has so many obstacles in the way that I thought and still do to some extent think this is one very rocky relationship. The next book has just been published and I will buy it very soon as this is looking like another keep series for me.

Hunter's Moon by Lori Handeland was a great read. I loved it when the heroine Leigh Tyler thought 'Think The X-Files versus Grimm's Fairy Tales on steroids.' When thinking to describe life as a Jager-Sucher Hunter. This series is still a keeper for me.

Everyone - You're all doing so great! WOohoo! April's off to a great start it looks like!

My report:

I finished another book, the Vampire Academy one. That is definitely an interesting series. I look forward to reading more of that one. Of course I had a heck of a time since my boys were constantly asking me questions and what not. :)

Finished:
1. Maximum Ride - School's Out -- Forever by James Patterson (#2 in Maximum Ride)
2. Vampire Academy by Rachel Mead (#1 in Vampire Academy)

I'm a third of the way through my third book - Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs.

well, I finished off book 2 of the Vampire Academy books. Will give it to Oz tomorrow. I am not counting that as one of my challenge books tho. I think I liked this one better than the first book. There were no slowdowns of the story to explain the world view like in the first one. Richelle Mead simply expected you to be familiar with it. There was a tiny bit of explaination, but it was kind of throw away. It was enough so that if someone hadn't read the first book, they'd still be able to keep up, but it didn't interfere with the flow of the story.

message 218: by Gail (new)

Gail | 110 comments I just looked at Brandy's list and was feeling intimidated--until I saw that she skipped from #5 to #9. I'm still intimidated, but not quite so much.

Doing better than last month...

1. Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh (Guild Hunters #1) ****04-02-09
2. Kitty Raises Hell by Carrie Vaughn (Kitty the Werewolf # 6)
3. Wanderlust by Ann Aguirre (Jax #2)
4. The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey (500 Kingdoms #4)
5. The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe (Dragon thing #1)
6. Night Huntress by Yasmine Galenorn (#5 in the Fae Sisters)
7. The Warlord's Daughter by Susan Grant (#5 or so in her SF series) *** 4/4/09
8. Echoes in the Dark by Robin D. Owens (#5 of Lladrana series) ***4/6/09
9. Duainfey by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller

Two more down. I started at the top of my list, then jumped to the bottom...

I liked both of these books. I felt like Robin was trying to cram 2 books into one again, or maybe 1-1/2 books into one, in ECHOES, but I enjoyed it. I also liked The Warlord's Daughter.

Currently reading Kitty Raises Hell.

Michelle, (I think you're who asked) I have really liked ALL of Nalini Singh's PNR books. She's a fabulous writer. Her Psy-Changeling books aren't as dark as Angel's Blood--it really is very dark, which bothered some people, but I'm ready to go wherever she wants to take me, because I can trust that she'll give me a happy ending. :)

Re: the Satyr books: I don't have a problem with lots of sex, as long as it's well-written sex. The premise of these sounds pretty interesting. I might just give them a try.

I think I'm going to have to find an excerpt of Rush of Wings before I plunge in. The back cover copy makes me nervous.

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunters, Book 1) by Nalini Singh The Warlord's Daughter by Susan Grant Echoes In The Dark (The Summoning, Book 5) by Robin D. Owens

The back cover copy makes the book sound AWFUL. It's a terrible decription that does nothing for the book. I took forever to read it because the copy sounded so bad that I didn't think it could ever possibly be rave-worthy.

Crappy, crappy copywriter. Makes me wonder how many other fab books I've chucked aside because the descriptor was poorly written...

Not to mention the front cover, which has nothing to do with anything. The front cover makes it seem like every typical UF novel with your leather clad babe out kicking butt. It is NOT that at all.

All of it was just bad on their part. I was truly shocked once I started reading the book, since it had such a different tone than expected, and far more unique in its storytelling.

So, yes, Gail, read a sample...but, do not in any way judge this book by its cliche-filled cover!

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I feel utterly inadequate.

message 231: by Jacalyn (new)

Jacalyn | 454 comments Nicole - I definitely get that way. Usually by now I would have... but this challenge is keeping me going with the heavy reading load. Unfortunately I am feeling like 'urgh" on reading with the kids. LOL Baaaaad mom!

Ok, so who's going to finish first this month? Ann or Brandy???? ROFL! I can't believe it - 6 books????

Holy cow, 75 books????? It's only like the 6th and we're already up to 75 books? GO US!!!!!

I am here to report that i finished my third book! Normally Monday is a family night. Well tonight my husband came home pretty much with his nose in a book. (Gosh I hope he wasn't reading while driving home from the train station! HA) Sat down with his book (Book 3 of the Max Ride series - the sons have read all four and I have now read the first two and he's reading, too... I think this is the first time we've all read so many books at the same time as each other). We were having an easy meal from the freezer tonight - homemade pizza pockets. As we each nuked our pizza pocket, we all sort of gravitated to our living room instead of the table, all with books, and we sat there for like two hours reading our books. LOL The menfolk slowly made their way to bed but I sat there and finished my book.

Probably good since mum and I are mega sewing mode this month so I'm losing a lot of my daytime reading time... HAHA

My report:

Finished:
1. Maximum Ride - School's Out -- Forever by James Patterson (#2 in Maximum Ride)
2. Vampire Academy by Rachel Mead (#1 in Vampire Academy)
3. Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (#4 in the Mercy Series)

I agree with everything that's been said. I'd heard a lot of good things about the series on the B&N forum, so I decided to try it - even though I thought the whole rockstar thing was going to be really lame. It is so good though - so definitely take a chance and ignore the covers. Adrian had no input on them, and the designer obviously didn't read the book as it is in no way a reflection of Heather (apparently Adrian was told that UF covers with women on them sell better which is why Dante isn't on it - me, I'd have preferred Dante, especially if he really did look like my avatar, as she thinks he does).

I read the blurb but then I always read several reviews and base my decision on that. Since last summer when I joined Goodreads, I've not once picked up a book that isn't on my list of must reads. *sniff*...I just love you guys.

I wasn't going to do this challenge, because 1. I can't read 9 books in one month (at least not while in school) and 2. I didn't think I would have that many series books to read. But, I seem to be picking up and reading more series books than I was anticipating. I won't make out my whole list though, because I don't know for sure what I'll read. Depends on whats at my bookstore. So far....

1. From Dead to Worse by Charlian Harris (4/4/09)
2. Beyond the Highland Mists by Karen Moning (4/6/09)
3. The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/9/09)
4. Fantasy Lover by Kenyon (still reading)

That's okay, Lori. Attempting is just as fun as actually completing a challenge.

If the cover were your avatar, I probably would pick the book up based on the cover alone. It perfectly represents the dark, hauntingly beautiful tone of the book. As it is, I rolled my eyes at the cover and read it based on your reviews and was SOOO glad I did.

Lori (moderatrixlori) Another one bites the dust...I enjoyed Blood Bound but it took me awhile to really get into it. Part of the problem is that it's UF and not PNR. Once the story got underway though, I was hooked. Mercy bugs the crap out of me though. She's got two wolves and now 1 vamp hot for her and she's so uptight and scared, she won't give in to any of them. I can understand her reluctance with the vamp and even Sam but it's time to jump in the sack with Adam already. Or both Sam and Adam...yea, that's it. Both of them!
