What you want for lamingtons, is a good sponge cake recipe. If you have one already you know that works, then just use that one. Cut into squares, dip into a chocolate sauce (not icing, you want it to soak in a bit through the outside of the sponge) and then roll in coconut.
I don't really make them as not a huge fan of sponge cake, but the more chocolate that soaks in, the yummier. I had a look at the online place I get a lot of recipes, and they have some super fancy ones! http://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/se...
Oh. And I wouldn't use that sauce in your recipe. I'd melt down a whole heap of chocolate and add cream/milk to make a chocolate sauce. My god. My pancreas is screaming and my teeth are recoiling reading that recipe!!! Might as well say "buy one bag of sugar. get spoon. consume."
...turns out that would be just me. Looked through heaps of recipes. Sorry.
So the CWA is the Country Women's Association, the Aussie equiv of the Women's Institute in the UK. They are the authority on baking. Here's their recipe: http://australianlamingtons.blogspot....
Stephanie Alexander is cooking royalty here. In fact, my mother refers to her only as Saint Stephanie. Here's her's http://www.stephaniealexander.com.au/...
Yay! After 7 weeks finally all mortgage stuff is accepted or approved or whatever they need to do, so now we have officially bought the house! :D

We get the key December 28. Two weeks after my PhD defense so that's going to be an exciting month! I think the actual move will be mid-January.

I understand, I had a similar situation a few years back. I hope you start to feel better soon...you will with time but I think you'll always feel a loss.
KimeyDiann, it's a shame that your MIL didn't settle that before she passed on to avoid arguing after she passed but I'm sure there is a reason why she did that. I hope your SIL decides to stick with her word.

Thank you, Tasha.

It's so cute. She's older now (9yo) and realizes that maybe those new 'friends' are more like acquaintances. haha

I remember when we bought our first house although we only lived in it for a few years.
I am still living in our 2nd one. I even re-financed it to buy out my ex-husband. I am on the verge of finally having the mortgage paid off in a couple of months.
Peggy wrote: "How are you feeling now Sandra?"I'm fine. Thanks for asking. My mom is coming to visit in a few days, so I'm trying to focus on that. But yes, in the overall today was a better day. As Tasha said I'll always feel a loss, but the thing now is being able to move on.
Cherie wrote: "I am on the verge of finally having the mortgage paid off in a couple of months."That's great, Cherie! What a relief!
Just spent the last hour and a half with a lawyer over some things that have been festering for a while. It's not too big a deal, but it's going to be a financial strain. The biggest frustration is actually coming home from a stressful meeting and having my 81 year old mother, who lives with me, give me a hard time about it. If ever there was a time when I just needed some gentle acceptance.
Lynda wrote: "Just spent the last hour and a half with a lawyer over some things that have been festering for a while. It's not too big a deal, but it's going to be a financial strain. The biggest frustration ..."
Whatever it is, Lynda, good luck. I don't know that I have ever received "gentle acceptance" from either of my parents, so good luck with that. Give it to yourself. :)
Good luck, Lynda. Living with your 81 year old mother sounds like a challenge in and of itself. Even when you love your family very much, they can really get on your nerves sometimes. Hang in there.
So many parents are incapable of some gentle acceptance, Lynda! I hope everything settles down soon. Positive thoughts from here!

When the house was deeded, she was in a good place mentally and still had a relationship with all of her children. Just a couple of years later my husband was being raised by his sister and there was little to no contact with their mother. They tried to get her help but she refused. By the time he was an adult and began helping his mother, there was no way she would have willingly signed any type of paperwork due to her paranoia. She always thought people were out to take her money or use her name and she had no trust for her daughter. She didn't even remember that the house would legally become her daughter's upon death. As far as she was concerned she owned about 20 acres around her house and the people that lived on that land were supposed to be paying her rent. Trying to get her to change the deed before her death would have opened a whole can of worms that my husband wasn't interested in dealing with. And he has always trusted his sister explicitly. But now we are becoming a little concerned.
Oh, yeah, that's some big stuff going on there. That's sad for him that he had to grow up with that, it's not an easy thing to have to deal with.

Thanks, Rusalka. I bookmarked both pages. Do you know if strawberry gelatin crystals are basically like American Jello? I'm going to see if I can get it at the same place I get all of my British stuff like malt vinegar, Bird's Custard powder, clotted cream, etc.
That's a very complex situation, Kimey. Hopefully your husband and his sister would solve this in the best way possible.
It is a complex situation. I'm just hoping our concerns are unfounded. My S-I-L is the most ADD person I have ever known and it could be she simply got distracted from the question before she could respond and hasn't went back to it yet. Or even that she responded in her mind but never actually sent the message... I have been known to do that.
Lots of good news and little shaky news .. Hope everything works out for everyone in a good way
I feel the time is flying by so fast and I'm doing so little .. I need more time .. Perhaps the day could be 48 hours instead of 24?
And I really wanna amber earrings with an insect inside .. Dunno how that could be related, but I felt like saying it !

Did you recently watch Jurassic World or Park? :)
I just got my USB cord (charger) for my Nook in the mail. I was hoping to get them in time for the Toppler. I have a Nook Tablet thing I was using in the meantime, but I really don't like it. It's very laggy, the search stalls most of the time...it works like a tablet you can read books on as opposed to an ereader.

Bella wrote: "Do you know if strawberry gelatin crystals are basically like American Jello?"Yeah, I would use jelly crystals which are a box of powder you add hot water to and put in a mould/bowl, put in a fridge and it makes what you guys call "jello".

It is Android and I had a hard time at first, but it got easier. I use it to read ebooks from the library, and of course Nook books. I use my iPod Touch for audio books, but I could also listen to audio books on my tablet. I have the Kindle App loaded. I have been a Nook user since the original Nook Classic came out. Mine still works and I actually like some if its functions better. I have a couple Nook easy Readers too (we share them with other family members). My daughter had the original Nook Color tablet. Worked fine, but the cable was crap and always breaking. She still uses it occasionally. It was great for her son with the kids books. She has an iPod mini and has the best of both worlds now - Nook and Kindle Apps plus everything iTunes.
The dogs at American Vetdog don't seem to have a phone preference but it is fun to see their excitement when they correctly retrieve a phone on command. America Vetdog videos
I volunteer there once a week.
We got some carpet off freecycle (for free - obviously) which we were really excited about. We just need it for a bedroom as a temporary floor covering over the winter. We only needed a small amount but we got this huge house sitting rooms worth of carpet. Took us ages to get it in to our boat yesterday with a lot of swearing. So today it was my job to lay it. Well all I can say is it's not easy laying a carpet in a narrowboat which has a bedroom of just 2m by 3m, especially when the carpet is probably 4 times that size. But I managed it and I still have all my digits (stanley knives are incredibly sharp I'm told) although my hands and arms have a few caret burns on with having to wrestle it. Now I can put the rest back on freecycle. I am absolutely knackered now though. Really excited as we're getting a proper fridge later on today. Things are coming together nicely.

Sounds like a wonderful organization, Joan! It's wonderful that you get to help out there as well.
CFDeeDee wrote: "Is there another way to make jello Rusalka?"Not that I know of, but I don't know how you make "jello". That's how we make jelly, and I assume it's the same, but that has caught me out before. Thought I should explain the whole process in case it's called something else and that's what you would need.
By the way, no one likes the red ones. Just fyi. YOu always go chocolate.
