Watcha Doing? Version 2015.5
I'm working frantically to get some grass and alfalfa planted. Well the planting is easy enough should say working franticslly working ground to be able to plant. That is my week end. Really shoulf have been done by august 31, but it is so dry and not any rain in forecast so it really doesn't matter. Won't grow without moisture
I'm going to see Janet Jackson in concert tomorrow night and my brother may be coming up on Monday and staying overnight. Other than that, I plan on doing a bit of work and a bit of relaxation.
I'm on vacation next week, but have to go in tomorrow to invoice some customers. Sunday and Monday I'm the official photographer for our town's 10 1st Labor Day Celebration. I get a fancy parking pass and everything!
Enjoy Janice and Lynda! We don't have many plans for this long weekend, but if this hot weather goes on we could ended having a splashdown in the lake.
I am off to Madrid tomorrow for a few days. Just finished packing so all set to go. Never been there before so am really excited! :D
Lot's of fun things are being done this weekend! Have fun everyone!I'm happy now as we are back afloat. a the water level is still low but with some help of the barge pole we managed to get free. But now we have to go back and move our mate's boat (which is still grounded) as they're on holiday. So round two coming up!
My daughter and I are going to see the Australian Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin II tonight. I am so excited I can't stand it! PF is my favorite band of all time.I hope everyone else has fun this weekend and thank goodness you are back afloat Sarah! I look forward to the next giggle your boat inspires, though. ;-}
There are lots of fun things planned for the weekend. I hope everyone enjoys their activities. So glad to here you're floating again, Sarah. That puts a new spin on Stephen King's, "Here, we all float!"
Janice wrote: "Sorry Kandice. I didn't mean to traumatize you. Hehehe!"That's ok! I need to get busy on housework and this is a good incentive. I can pretend the balloon is following me...
Kandice wrote: " the Australian Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin II "This statement confuses me a lot. Nevertheless, enjoy!
They're like tribute bands to the original Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, but very, very good. They've sold out every time they've been here.
Well the painters finished the kitchen and dining room in 3 days instead of the 1 they had planned for. It meant taking Latka (our dog) to the groomer who agreed to watch her each day. The dining room was such a mess, the walls needed scraping and a skim coat to smooth them out. But the result is great. Just in time for the long weekend. Today we went looking for new window treatments. Now the hubby looks at the living room and says, "that panelling has to go. We'll do that next. Next year." Ka-ching! I guess I'll have to keep working.
I'm officially on vacation! I won't be leaving for the peninsula until Wednesday, after all the crazy holiday traffic dies down. I hope everyone has a fun long weekend, or just a plain old "SSDD" weekend!
Enjoy, Madrid, Lisa...I'm totally jealous.
Roz, I'm glad the painters are finally done! It's not fun having your home in any state of chaos.
Enjoy your concert, Kandice. I really love Pink Floyd, too. How was Ms. Jackson, Janice?
Sarah, glad to hear you're floating again.

I have to work all weekend, but it is my last one at my current job. In a week from Monday I start my new job which I am excited about. I did have a high school senior ask me to be her mentor for her senior project. She has to find a mentor in a career she is interested in and follow them on the job for three hours and spend 7 hours total of time with me. We completed the job shadow part tonight. I was kind of honored.
How was it Kandice? Sounds great! Do they have any of the original members in it?How was Janet Jackson, Janice?
I bought concert tickets for Gary Clark Jr this morning. I'm so excited!! I first heard his music a year ago and I've been n hoping he'd come to the Netherlands ever since. I missed the presale for the first concert, but thankfully they planned a second.
This week I'm going to Seasick Steve on Thursday, and to Triggerfinger (Belgian band, not sure how well-known they are abroad) on Friday. The first was a birthday present from bf to me, the second a birthday present from me to him. My mom, dad and uncle are joining us for the seasick Steve concert :D

The venue had terrible acoustics and the music was so loud that it was distorted. I couldn't make out the words or the tunes. I thought maybe it was my hearing problems, but my friend confirmed that it was the sound system. But, I really enjoyed the dancing and the energy. We had seats in row 11 on the main floor, so were very close. We did have fun - taking selfies and tweeting and posting on instagram, just like the 20 year olds around us. :)
The concert last night was terrific! I love that my daughter (17) enjoyed herself as much as I did. The audience was very different than what she is used to. She saw Taylor Swift a week ago. ;)It was also good practice because we going to see Joan Jett & the Blackhearts with The Who in 2 weeks. We are each bringing a friend so it will be a foursome.

Have you read Neon Angel by Cherie Currie? I have it on my shelves...somewhere.
Did she like it, Kandice? If she thought it was great, maybe I'll dig through the boxes, piles, drawers, etc., and look for it.
Long day at work today. I got a sore throat yesterday evening and it bothered me all night so I hardly slept, and I'm feeling very tired right now. I hope it's not the beginning of illness, because I have way too many fun and exciting things planned this week.
Not sure how it happened, but I read most of Finders Keepers today, so right now I'm taking a break before I read the last 60 pages.
Exhausted and sore from shooting our small town's 101st Labor Day Celebration. It's been fun watching all the kids have fun. Ran into a friend's brother who I haven't seen in 20 years!Very frustrated w/ my computer. It's struggling to run Lightroom/PhotoShop. Now it doesn't want to even awknowledge the new camera is plugged in to the USB. 500 photos are stranded at the moment.
Sounds like everyone had a good weekend then! Fingers crossed it's not the start of a cold Peggy!
I can see how that happened Gavin - the Bill Hodge series is definitely a page turner!
It's my first day back on the bike to cycle to work since falling in the canal and hurting myself. Not looking forward to it as my bottom is still bruised a little. Only 3.5 miles though so hopefully it won't be too bad.
On Friday, we're off on holiday. With our boat! And the first day we have to go through this set of locks.
There are 29 locks in a row. We've only ever been down them so this will be a new experience for us. And a tiring one...
That looks kind of complicated Sarah. Do you have to handle multiple locks at the same time to get the boat through? From the picture it doesn't seem like it would fit in between two locks. And what if another boat comes from the opposite direction? Or are there one-way canals?Have a nice holiday!
Here's an aerial view so you can see there is actually quite a gap between each one - they just look close together from the bottom as it rises over 200ft in that short space.
Two boats can go in a lock at a time. Two go in, say from the bottom, come out the other side of the first lock and there is passing space for two boats coming from the other direction to go in to the lock we've just come out of. And then repeat. Another 28 times! You do one lock at a time. On average it takes between 4 and 5 hours.
Oh wow, what a difference in those two pictures. The second one makes much more sense! Good luck, although I don't think you need, you both are such experiences narrowboaters by now :)
What purpose do all those locks serve? I mean if you can open them they can't be holding anything out (or in!). It's a beautiful scene.

You'll be able to retrieve them though, right?!

It was nice to have the three day holiday weekend that just passed, but that was definitely the calm before the storm!
It sounds like everyone had a great weekend. Mine was very unexciting. I spent Saturday cleaning my house and the rest of the weekend was spent at the hospital with my mother-in-law. I was thankful for the extra day off of work so I could catch up on some sleep. I managed a two hour nap yesterday afternoon which was fabulous. It was on an incredibly uncomfortable hospital couch, but totally worth it.

If so, better than a chair, right? ;) I've been keeping you (and her) in my thoughts.
The pictures of the locks are beautiful, Sarah. It will be an adventure making your way through them.
Thank you, Kandice! Yes, there is a couch and two chairs in her room. The couch is only slightly more comfortable than laying on the floor. :-/
Cool photos, Sarah! The weekend was pretty uneventful here. Hubby had a ton of homework to catch up on since he had to go out of town last week for a few days for work. I cleaned and took the dog for his walks. Hoping to get out to the beach this coming weekend since dogs are allowed on the boardwalk now since it is after Labor day here :) But we shall see how the weather is...I think it may be rainy this weekend :(
@Kandice - when the canals were built, small hills were circumnavigated simply by having the canal go around them but this often took the canal out of the way of established towns etc. so they started to build the canals up and over hills. Water cannot flow up hill so these lock systems were created to allow boats to move up and down the hills. The lock flight in the pictures allows boats to climb/descend over 200 feet. We would open the open at the bottom of the first lock, we'd drive in, close the gates behind us, fill the lock with water until it's the same level as that of the water on the other side of the lock, then we open the other gates and drive out - we would then be slightly higher up than we were before going in to the lock. Then repeat another 28 times and we'll be up the top of the hill. I hope that makes sense.
@Sarah, I remember reading this is how is done in the Panama Canal, since there is a significant height difference between both oceans. Really interesting! Good luck!

Makes perfect sense, but I wouldn't have figured that out no matter how long I looked at those beautiful photos. :)

The field made me LOL. :D
Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon!
Does anyone have special plans for Labor Day weekend? (those that celebrate). I'm looking forward to the long weekend even though I know my husband and I will be spending most of it at the hospital with his mother.
