It's my pointer finger on my left hand, and typing has been a challenge.
My sister (the RN) figured that my finger would need to be lanced, but the doctor told me that it will burst on its own and drain. I gave it a wee bit of help with a pin and that's what's relieved the pressure and thus the pain.
Funny that your doctor wouldn't believe you about the sliver. I don't know why someone would be so embarrassed about a hangnail that they'd lie about it.

**Insert x-files theme**
My mother-in-law's doctor recommended to us yesterday that we place her on hospice. Basically every problem they try to treat will create different problems. For example, the medication they give her to treat her congestive heart failure causes her kidneys to stop functioning, if they try to fix her kidneys, she has trouble breathing because of fluid accumulations due to the CHF. She's gotten very weak and the dr said the only way she could return home at this point is if she had round-the-clock nursing care. Our best option is going to be just to keep her comfortable for the time she has left. There are two great hospice centers here so we know regardless of which we chose she will receive wonderful care. It is a very hard decision to make and my husband is really struggling even though we know it is for the best. I would appreciate any prayers, positive vibes, thoughts, or whatever you do/believe... we are going to need everything we can get, especially my sweet husband.
You got it, KimeyDiann. So sorry to hear it's turned so fast. Hospice does sound like the nicest option for her and the family. ((hugs))
Oh, KimeyDiann, I'm very sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. My thoughts are with you and your husband.
KimeyDiann wrote: "Thank you everyone! That is what I love about this group, everyone is so supportive!"Keeping you (and your husband) in my thoughts and prayers.
Argh! I just spent 1.5 hours doing certain calculations, only to find out now that I subtracted what I should have added, and added what I should have subtracted. This afternoon we go back to the house we bought for a technical inspection. If everything's okay and there are no major issues, we'll sign the contract right after.
Sorry to hear that KimeyDiann. My thoughts are with you and your family. That's great to hear Peggy! Do you know how long you'll have to wait before you move in? Does it have a long chain or is it already empty?
It's going to be a while... December 28. Gives us lots of time to think about decorating and new furniture ;-)
So sorry to hear KimeyDiann. Hope you're MIL is feeling okay and not in much pain. Look after yourself as well as both of them. Thinking of you all.Exciting Peggy! That's a while. We have a standard 60 day settlement here in my city for properties, after contract is signed. Heh good luck with the reno plans. We managed to do the floors and then went "yeah... let's do the rest in a bit." 8 years later...
Here these things usually go in mutual agreement. The sellers were willing to drop the price a bit if they could move out so that their move from the old house would coincide with the move to the new house. For us it doesn't really matter because we rent right now and are flexible. Of course we would have preferred if it was 1 or 2 months sooner ;-)We don't have to do major renovations thankfully! Although even small things keep getting postponed. We've been living in this apartment for 4.5 years and we still don't have curtains or anything else for the living room windows.
It sounds similar to here Peggy. It can take ages especially if there is a long chain. Plus waiting for surveys takes forever here.Well last night we went to bed and our boat was listing heavily to one side. My partner has been adjusting the ballast over the weekend so we just assumed he must have over adjusted. But that didn't feel right. I just went outside the boat to have a look and the water level has dropped in the canal significantly to the extent that our boat has grounded - I can actually see the bottom of our boat at the back. That explains why we're listing then. Doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere just yet then!
That sounds like a strange experience Sarah. I had no idea water levels could drop that fast. Or were you already close to the bottom of the canal without knowing?
Water levels can drop if someone leaves a lock gate open/sluice not closed properly further up the system. We're moored along a stretch where there are a lot of locks so more room for error. This would account for a quick water drop. It's not happened to us before. The edges of the canal are shallower as they are basin shaped and you get a build up of silt on the edges so that's why we've grounded. Boats are still going past us down the middle so it's deep enough there.
You can negotiate a different settlement date here, but that's the default. You assume 60 days unless it's been negotiated as shorter (90% of the time), usually to 30 days. It's the little things that are the ones you put off! Totally recommend doing them before you move in if you can. Otherwise you look blue tac ripped painted walls while in bed and think about all the things you have to move and rearrange, and then just go "ahhhh f*** it" for 8 years and go to sleep.
Weird, Sarah. There is a dreamtime story here in Aboriginal lore where a frog called Tiddalik drinks all the water in the land. The kookaburra tries to make him laugh, as do lizards walking, and other animals doing silly things. But then an eel called Nabunum twists and contorts himself into ridiculous shapes. Tiddalik laughs and laughs and spews all the water back into the land, flooding all the waterways again. You need to work out how to make Tiddalik laugh.
Exciting news about the house, Peggy! December will be here before you know it :)I get to pick up my husband tonight!! Woohoo!! He's been in Texas for work for a few days. I could have gone with but didn't want to leave Blake (our dog) since we are going to be gone for a week in October. I'm not looking forward to being gone from him for so long :(
But am looking forward to seeing family and friends :)
Congrats Peggy! We redid the floors before we moved into our house and now 15 years later not only have we not done everything we planned, but most of the things we DID do are different than we thought they would be. Just living is a work in progress!
Love the story Rusalka. I'm think Tiddalik has had enough to laugh about lately what with me falling in the canal. :-)
Sarah wrote: "Love the story Rusalka. I'm think Tiddalik has had enough to laugh about lately what with me falling in the canal. :-)"That's twice you've given me a nice morning giggle Sarah!
Glad I can be of service Kandice. Morning giggles are awesome and I've had my fair share while reading this thread over the years.
Congrats, Peggy! December really will be here before you know it! Especially when you consider it is already September! I mean, how did that happen?! LOL@Sarah, I hope you didn't need to empty the waste water tank today!
Don't even get me started on remodeling. I'll just say we have been living in our house (that we majorly remodeled) for 4 years and I still don't have my second bathroom/laudry room. And the electric and plumbing has never been installed to the new kitchen island. And I could go on and on and on, but I won't. LOL.
We signed the contract, yay! :D It's really ours now!I guess decorating and renovating is just a life-long process. By the time you think you've got everything done something new will pop up.
So sorry, KimeyDiann. Prayers to your family.Exciting news Peggy!
Off to grocery shopping, then back home to read. :)
That's great news Peggy! I bet you're really excited! We're still grounded! I rang up the organization that deals with the waterways and apparently there is a pump which has stopped working. Someone is trying to fix it as I type so hopefully we'll be floating again by lunchtime. Funny you should mention waste water tanks KimeyDiann...
Sarah wrote: "Funny you should mention waste water tanks KimeyDiann..."Ruh Roh! I hope you are grounded near somewhere with a clean public restroom! LOL
