I started Tricked hoping that it would get me out of my reading slump (thanks Sarah!) and it seems to be doing the job :)

I finished The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell. Loved it, gave it 4.5 stars. Her writing is really good.Going to start All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews today.

Thanks Lisa. I think I've read three of the 13 and although I am enjoying the stories, I keep looking for the hidden meaning and not finding it!!

Bella, I really recommend Girl in a Band; Kim's a good writer, and she doesn't dwell on the breakup with Thurston, but she doesn't shy away from it either. I've always admired her and Kathleen Hanna, because they seem like such genuine people.I added Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things to my TBR list!
Finally finished A Canticle for Leibowitz, it was a really good book, and a unique telling of the "nuclear-bomb-fear" trope in classic sci-fi. I'd say it's a 3.75 star read for me...almost, but not quite a 4 - mainly because I miss Brother Francis!
Reading The Autumnlands, Vol. 1: Tooth and Claw for a book club selection, I'm having a hard time getting into it. That's rare with Graphic Novels, for me.
I finished reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Someone described it as a rabbit hole and how accurate that was. It was a great adventure in the style of Alice in Wonderland, though it's dear Richard Mayhew with his gorgeous Scottish accent who is taken on crazy ride. It was so much fun, and I loved it.I've started book three in the "In Death" series, Immortal in Death
You've sold me...combining Neil Gaiman and Alice in Wonderland, that's like my own personal catnip.
If you get the chance, Lynda, read the audiobook. Neil Gaiman is amazing.

I just started Be Careful What You Wish For this afternoon, have a very strong feeling that it'll turn to be another cliché ending .. Hate those kind of books .. But I'll just go along with it -for now-

Ive read a couple of Neil Gaiman's graphic novels this week - Violent Cases and Murder Mysteries. They weren't amazing. I thought they started off promising but theyended abruptly and left me wondering what had happened, a little like is often the case with short stories. I also read a short story collaboration between father and son, Stephen King and Joe Hill - In the Tall Grass but i really didnt like it. I thought it unnecssary - gore, bad language, cannabilsm - it felt like they threw everything that is shocking in to 50 odd words. These books were all fillers before October starts with group reads and buddy reads. I've decided not to wait any longer though so I'm now starting The Passage for the buddy read and Bird Box for the spooky theme in October. One book for at home and one for commuting and work.
I just finished Seventh Grave and No Body last night. Another great Charley Davidson book! I started to go ahead and download book 8, but I think I may wait until the ebook price drops. I have a personal rule (that I rarely break) to not spend over $7.99 on ebooks. Curse my personal rules! lolI also finished listening to The Hollow on my commute this morning. It was a very typical Nora Roberts book so I was slightly disappointed. The first book in this series was great, partly because the romance wasn't the primary focus. The Hollow was very much romance/relationship focused instead of plot driven. What intrigued me about the Sign of Seven trilogy was the spooky demon, good vs evil drama. I didn't have high hopes for the first book, Blood Brothers, and it turned out to be fantastic, so this second book was a disappointment. I will continue the series though, I'm hoping the final book will have a lot more action and less lovey-dovey.
I'm reading Revelation (finally) for the series challenge. Really good writing, it just moves right along.
Well, I just broke my personal rule of not spending over a certain amount on ebooks! I've been anxiously anticipating the sequel to Me Before You and it officially released in the US today. I was trying to be good and not buy it, but I just can't resist! I'll be starting After You today! I'm so excited and scared! Me Before You is probably one of my all-time favorite books so I'm scared After You may not live up to my expectations.
I think I'm one of the few people who found me before you only so-so. But it is kind of scary to read a sequel to a book you loved so much, especially when you've been looking forward to it for a long time. I hope you'll love this one too!
I am down to only one book today. Still reading The Golem and the Jinni and loving it. I will be starting book #14 in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency next.
Finished Bag of Bones. Probably SK best writing maybe not most entettaining but strongest plot I've seen by him. Remember it doesn't have to be good writing to ve entertaining. But this was good all tge way around. Now I'm into Shards of Honor
I finally finished my monthly challenge read, The Girl on the Train and there are two days left in the month. I think I'll pick A Clash of Kings and read a bit more of it. Once October rolls around, I'll put it down in favour of my October reads, unless I get completely hooked and can't put it down.

Mariab, I was checking it out more in detail and National Geographic also tests for Neanderthal and they also test for Denisovan DNA. (Denisovans were discovered in roughly Siberia and spread through SE Asia and on through New Guinea. Well, I should have finished The Revenge of Seven tonight, but instead I drove home listening to The X-Files Files podcast. I'll have it done tomorrow morning (only 20 minutes left of the audiobook), and then Dust will complete the next level in the serial killer challenge. I'm waiting to get this book done before tackling the pile of comics/graphic novels that are on the floor of my bedroom.
I'm reading Rosemary and Rue for the series challenge and for the Vaginal Fantasy bookclub. I'm liking it, it did at the beginning strike me as a bit of a Harry Dresden/Iron Druid rip off. But it's moved away from that a bit, established it's own mythology which I am loving, and Iron Druid wasn't even written before she wrote this one. Also, best twist to the end of the first chapter that I have read in a while.
I have put Marina to one side for the time being. I have been in a reading slump for almost a week and have literally not read more than a few lines during that time. I will come back to it once I am out of my slump. Hopefully I will be back in the mood for reading again soon!
I'm reading too many books right now. I started You on audio and had it playing while I was packing, but it is completely inappropriate to play out loud in the house when there are other people around. So, I also started As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. I started listening to Little Girls for our October themed read in my car and I'm still trying to finish up Hello From the Gillespies today for our September themed read. I think I'm going to be sticking to mostly audiobooks for the next month or two due to having so much packing, then unpacking to do.

I'm a little over halfway through and I'm enjoying it okay, but if I hadn't already loved Lou and everyone else from MBY, I wouldn't be invested in the book at all. I will tell you that at about 14% in something happens that floored me. But nothing that has happened between 14 and 60% has obsessed me the way everything in MBY did. I'm not passing final judgment yet, but so far it is not living up to expectation.

MBY is a tough book to follow.
I needed an audio book and after reviewing all of the ones on my wish list on Overdrive, picked Dylan Thomas: A New Life. The only thing of Thomas' that I have read is his Christmas story A Child's Christmas in Wales. I have to admit that my number one reason for picking the book though is that it is narrated by Simon Vance. It is fascinating to hear him use his Welsh accent voice when reading DT's poems. I wanted to listen to The Passage but there are 11 people in line in front of me on the hold list. 3 months is too long to wait, if they all take their allotted three weeks. I will be re-reading it on my Nook for the buddy read.
I finished The Revenge of Seven, just as I pulled into my parking space at work this morning. Couldn't have been more perfect! I don't know about this series. I'm not a fan of the main protagonist, and I find the premise at times incredible simple-minded. The 6th book was just released. No idea if it's the final book or not, but it feels like it should be. I don't know how much longer they can stretch this out and maintain any credibility.So, I too found myself needing an audiobook, since the two I have on hold won't be available for a while. I decided on Anna Dressed in Blood. It's been on my TBR for a while, and it fits in with the spooky theme of October. Right now, it's reading like a knock-off of "Supernatural", but I hope it gets better. I still really like the cover!
Lynda, I agree with you about the Lorien Legacies series. I have the Fall of Ten on my pile of new books to read as well as the new Lost Years issue. I have put off reading them to allow for a level for all the new issues in the series I have killed (I have four so far). I have been reading the series from the beginning and can't give it up now. I don't see where it can really go either. They have been hinting but I can't see how it will work. Parts are just too unbelievable but I like the characters.
Yeah, I'm going to finish it, or go down trying. I just find the Elder's "plan" sort of...stupid. I think I keep coming back because there's the structure of a better story in there somewhere. LOL.
I finished the 4th mortal instruments book, city of fallen angels. Sorry can't link since I'm on the app. I really like this series. Each book is better than the last one. I believe there are only 6 books in this Series so only 2 books to go :(
George. It's a book about a boy in the fifth grade who is transgender but hasn't worked up the nerve to tell anyone. I ordered it for my middle school library and want to read it before the students do.
I just wanted to mention that Amazon.ca has The Hangman's Daughter and other books in the series on for $1.99 for the month of October. I imagine Amazon.com does as well. Timing is great since we're doing a buddy read of the book later this month.
