Yes, exactly!

I did have a look at it, and if you join their mailing list you will get the first (electronic) issue free, with no commitment to make any purchase, I understand.

I saw this come up on Twitter and thought it was a good share with this group:

https://bookriot.com/2019/06/25/roman...

Take the quiz and see which fictional Duke you pair up with. I ended up with a contemporary Duke: A Duke by Default.

My duke is the Duke of Ashbury from The Duchess Deal FUN!

message 409: by Cath (new)

Cath | 370 comments Well, I ended up with the Duke of Ashbury also!

Hmm... now if I could only figure out how to cheat my way into getting Sebastian from Devil in Winter, instead! ...'cept I guess he's not a Duke, is he? :(

message 410: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments Mine was the Duke of Kingston, Brandon Fiennes, from Duchess by Design (The Gilded Age Girls Club, #1) by Maya Rodale Duchess by Design by Maya Rodale (a book Jan recently completed). Thanks for sharing, Joanna.

message 411: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 245 comments Thanks for the link, Joanna. That was fun.

Shannon, I got the Duke of Ashbury as well. He was actually one of my favorites.

Cath, I’m with you on that. I love Sebastian, although West Ravenel was pretty hot in Devil’s Daughter.

This made me smile.😊

message 412: by Missy (last edited Jun 26, 2019 12:37PM) (new)

Missy | 1485 comments Cath, Sebastian wasn't a duke in his own book, but he was a duke (of Kingston, I believe) in his son and daughter's books.

Yes, I must 100% agree on the hotness of West! :)

Perhaps we can share the same man since we pretty much like the same books! LOL Although if I had a choice I'd take the Duke of Jervaulz (spelling) of Flowers From the Storm

Missy | 1485 comments The cast for Netflix's Bridgerton series is here!!!

https://ew.com/tv/2019/07/10/shondala...

For now, I have no opinions about the cast. I'm just going to wait and see how they do in the first episode. Oh, and there's going to be 8 episodes, each an hour long.

message 421: by Cath (new)

Cath | 370 comments Missy wrote: "The cast for Netflix's Bridgerton series is here!!!

Thanks for sharing! I think this will be hard for me, as I have a very strong mental image of all the gorgeous Bridgerton brothers and I'm not sure any actors can meet my standards! Especially b/c there is a "Bridgerton" look.

Also, Nicola Coughlan looks more striking than how I've always imagined Penelope F. to look. Though of course actors' looks can always be prettied up or down with the skillful use of makeup.

Looking forward to the series. My big hope is they can capture the humor!

I agree, while I think it’s great that it’ll be a series I am hesitant as I’ve built up images in my mind of the characters. We’ll see...

Missy | 1485 comments It's a been a long time since I've read Colin and Penelope's book, but wasn't her figure considered to be more on the curvy side?

Thanks for sharing Missy! I know that my hopes are likely to be crushed, but I cannot help but be excited about this. I was excited about Julie Andrews, but I was thinking she would be Lady Danbury. Since she is Lady Whistledown, (view spoiler)

Cath | 370 comments Missy wrote: "It's a been a long time since I've read Colin and Penelope's book, but wasn't her figure considered to be more on the curvy side?"

Yes. I just re-read their story a few months back. When Penelope first makes her debut at age 17 it is said that she was 2 stones heavier than she should be; by the next year she had lost the weight and is described as "pleasantly rounded." Ten years later when she and Colin get together I assume that she's still pleasantly rounded.

As for Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown, (view spoiler)

Thanks for the clarification Cath! That’s reassuring, though I think she would have been great as Lady Danbury!

8 episodes? I guess one episode per book.
I hoped for 2-3 episodes for each book

Cast : For now I like the actors playing Anthony and a Colin, but I am disappointed by Simon Basset actor. He looks rough and rugged while I always imagined Simon as a Patrick Dempsey kind of man.

I don’t remember a Sienna Rosso at all.

message 431: by Joanna Loves Reading, Bluestocking of HR novels (new)

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) | 4120 comments Mod
I don’t recognize anyone but Julie Andrews, and it’s been too long since I read the books to have much of a picture of the characters. I saw somewhere that Sienna is a renamed character.

message 432: by Med (new)

Med | 5 comments Wow - good on Netflix for doing the series. It needs to have really good actors like Downtown Abbey otherwise it wont do the books justice

message 433: by Mariana (new)

Mariana | 2692 comments I agree with imagining Simon as a Patrick Dempsey and Maggie Smith as Lady Danbury.

However, movies are rarely as good as the books. I am open to reinterpretation as it might be less disappointing than attempting to literally transcribe the books to screen.

I saw this on Twitter, and thought I would share here. It’s a petition directed towards a publisher’s announcement to severely reduce libraries access to ebooks. Only one publisher has come forward with this plan but others could follow suit. I think the petition is just for US citizens. Here’s the link:
