Susan wrote: "The first ever BOTM was in July 2025 - and was Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsay. I an old school medieval bodice ripper!" Thanks, Susan!

What do you think, girls, do you want to give it a try?

message 1202: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) | 2701 comments It's a fun idea and I'd give it a try. I've read some books by this author that I didn't really enjoy, but I haven't tried a Viking one by her. So yeah, I'm in.

We can create an extra BOTM for next month. What do you think, Susan? 🤔

OK - let's do it. I will be away for a few weeks - so Sandra will set it up.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments It's been ages (as in over 20 years) since I read Fires In Winter. I wonder if it will hold up.

Did you see that Goodreads changed the logo and I do hope they had changes also in site's and app usability!! Did you saw any differences?

message 1211: by Sandra (new)

message 1212: by Missy (new)

Missy | 1485 comments I noticed the new logo. No other changes, like improvements on the notifications.

Irina (☀️ on vacation again ☀️) | 46 comments You can now filter the editions by language. (This is probably not relevant for English-speaking people.)

The "social features" are as uncomfortable as ever.

message 1214: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments I noticed the new logo and I think that the hover color (the color that you get when hovering over a link in the menu) is now dark green rather than brown. I might be wrong about that.

As to functionality, no difference.

message 1215: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1425 comments Yeah, I haven't noticed a difference except the logo.

message 1216: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Moreira | 1121 comments Mod
Yup... not much better, but I do like the logo!! And the new challenges, what do you think about that?

message 1217: by Sandra (new)

Most annoying thing about notifications, I received a few of them as soon as I opened the app, and I've already seen it 🤔😓

Heavens above—brace yourselves, for it appears we are to be visited by none other than the mistress of ink and intrigue herself!

Happy readings!!

I would appreciate getting some notifications. I only get the ones, that people comment on my book reviews. I have no go to my groups to see what is being discussed. I sometimes miss what being posted.

Did you read the books?

message 1222: by Lauren (last edited Aug 15, 2025 05:49PM) (new)

Lauren | 1425 comments I've never read the books or seen the show, but I'm definitely intrigued. It looks like the books were written over a hundred years ago. Is the writing dated, or is it timeless?

The show looks very promising. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Sandra!

Lauren, I thought the same... I was looking for the previous series adaptation, and "The serial was based on the novels and interludes of John Galsworthy's series The Forsyte Saga (for which he won a Nobel Prize in 1932)." I didn't know, maybe it's more timeless, being a classic that won the Nobel Prize. A lack in my classics TBR!
