Kirsten (kmcripn) I had a funny conversation with my mom. She was reading a book set in the Georgian era and talked about waltzes. She told me it was ridiculous since it was invented in the Victorian era. I said no it wasn't because they had it in Regency England. I told her about Almack's and how you had to get permission to waltz. She asked how I knew that. I told her if you read as many regency romances as I did - you'd know it.

Priya (priyachennareddy) | 1544 comments Ladies and gentlemen ( I believe we have a couple of them here),

Did you happen to go through/vote in Annual goodreads choice awards?
I just looked at the nominations in the romance genre. There are 15 official nominations and I am surprised that not even one historical romance nomination. I don't know if these awards are really big deal, but I am distressed that our favourite subgenre hasn't been represented at all. Come on! There must be atleast one good HR that is eligible to be there in the official nominations. Luckily, there is write-in option and apparently top 5 of these write-in nominations would be included in the next round. So, I went and wrote in my choice - Brazen and the Beast (I read only 2 HRs published in 2019) and voted for it.

If you loved any HR that is published in 2019 and believe it needs to be there in the nominations, you too can write-in and vote for it.

I am loving this cast! :D So excited - but I really curious to know if it's going to be a season for each book, or are they going to mix it up?!

message 460: by Priya (new)

Priya (priyachennareddy) | 1544 comments I read (in another group?) that it is a couple or more of episodes per book and not a season. And from what I understand from the revealed cast, there are going to be a few characters that are created for the series or more portrayed than in the books. So, it is going to be different and I am still excited!

Jan (jan130) | 2701 comments Maybe it's going to be like the way the Bosch (detective) series has been adapted (by Amazon) for TV. There are lots of books, but for the TV series, a few things have been changed around and some books mashed up together with others. I didn't mind, because IMO the TV series is well done and captures the tone of the Bosch books.

I'm keeping an open mind on the Bridgertons series. Prepared to like it 100%, but we'll see......

Missy | 1485 comments Emma (by Jane Austen) is being adapted to the big screen once more in 2020.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Sr9...

And I just discovered there's a Brititsh tv series (on ITV in the UK) called Sanditon, which is based on an unfinished manuscript by Jane Austen. Sanditon will be premiering on Masterpiece on PBS next year in the USA.

https://www.townandcountrymag.com/lei...

This fanmade video focuses on the romance in Sanditon. Warning: contains spoilers from the season finale. You may want to stop the video at the 7 minute mark.

I'm going to watch them both today!

You'll need a ValleyPBS Passport in order to view the other episodes (unless they just haven't aired yet and we just need to wait).

Missy | 1485 comments Trailer #2 for Emma (2020) in case some of you have not seen it. I meant to share this video last month when it first aired.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOCDj...

I'll be listening to the audio book Emma: An Audible Original Drama before I watch this adaptation. The audio book is narrated/dramatized by a couple of people/actresses/actors: Emma Thompson (main narrator), Joanne Froggatt, Isabella Inchbald, Aisling Loftus, Joseph Millson, Morgana Robinson, so it's a lot easier to follow along than having one narrator.

I have heard of it but never seen anything. It is a subscription only company that creates romance movies. I think most, maybe all, are book adaptations.

message 475: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) | 2701 comments I love the Sugar Daddy series. CRs by Kleypas, who is probably best known for her HRs. But IMO it's a great series. I'd watch Sugar Daddy. I'm not sure whether Passionflix is available in Australia, though. My understanding is it's cable or pay-TV, like Netflix but yeah, all about romance.

Helen Cox | 5 comments Hi all, I'm new to the group and looking to connect with fellow romance readers. Especially during these self-isolating times. My favourite HR heroes are pirates and Native American warriors (my auntie had Apache ancestry so I've always been fascinated with Native American culture).

I'm just getting into Knights. What other heroes do you love to read about? I'd love to know and get some recommendations. Helen

Hi Jenna, yes! I'm noticing a lot of brawny Scots on book covers lately. I come from the North of England so I think that feels less exotic to me somehow! But will give one a whirl at some point. I hadn't thought of sexy SEALS. Sounds good.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1240 comments Hi Helen

I like Pirates too but am a bit gun shy because they’re often bodice rippers. Have you suggestions that aren’t? I like Jennifer Ashley’s pirate series. Otherwise I like culturally diverse stories and non-titles heroes.

For anyone that is interested, the Netflix adaptation of Julia Quinn’s Bridgestone series has announced the release date! It is coming out on Christmas, so Dec. 25. Here’s where I saw it:

to be honest, i'm really conflicted about it.
while i do think shonda rhimes is talented, i think she has a certain style & i don't know if i want that for those characters. also, like many others, i'm emotionally attached to the Bridgertons, et al after loving all of the books. so yeah...don't know if i want to spoil the visuals in my head.

Priya (priyachennareddy) | 1544 comments Hi!

It is time for our trope/theme survey.

For new members: We have trope based monthly group reads (BOTM) and to cover all the possible tropes, a couple of years ago, with our members' help we put together a master list of 48 HR tropes. Each year we had been randomising and including 24 tropes in an annual survey. In the last 3 years we managed to read HRs of 36 different tropes. This year we included the remaining 12 tropes along with 12 from the last 3 years (all randomly picked).
So, in this year's survey, we have 12 unread tropes and 12 read over the last 3 years.

Please select any 11 tropes you would like to read for the BOTM in 2021. At the end of the voting period, we will pick the top 11 based on your votes and randomize again for our BOTM reads for 2021.

Please only vote once and don't forget to enter your goodreads name at the top.

SURVEY LINK WOULD BE OPEN FOR VOTING TILL 20th NOVEMBER, 2020.

Here is the link to vote : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1oc2s...

This is a google form and so you will be taken offsite.

If you happen to submit the survey twice by mistake, please PM me and let me know which response to be considered.

Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions.

P.S.: I'm posting this on several threads. Just want to make sure everyone is included
