Lucy Steele is an interesting character. She is a pretty, cunning character, but doesnβt have much polish. She befriends Elinor (the main character) and then entrusts with a secret that she knows might cut Elinor deeply, which it does. Ultimately she is a social climber and is looking out for herself. She uses characters innate qualities against (like honor) to get what she wants.
Have you seen either the 1995 movie or the 2008 series?

Does not sound like a person I would like to be like, but I guess that is why she is in there :D
I haven't seen any of the series/movies either. I will read (or watch) it when I finally finish North and South (It is taking me sooo long).

I donβt think any of the villains are ones to emulate or be like, lol. I donβt think S&S is as easy to read as some of Austenβs others, but Elinor is probably my favorite heroine. She is very resilient. The movie is among my favorite adaptations in general, very good but it takes plenty of liberties too.

About Pride and Prejudice, did you prefer the BBC serie from 1995 or the movie from 2005? Mainly Mr. Darcy's character?

I prefer 1995, Kiera Knightley annoys me (don't know why, she is probably a lovely person) and I like Colin Firths Darcy :)
My problem with the 2005 version, despite being hard making a comparative between a TV series and a movie, is Mr. Darcy... I don't even know the name of the actor in the movie but Colin Firth will be forever The Mr Darcy! And I love Lizzy in the 1995 version.
I went looking for the actors in the 2005 movie and I really like so of the actors in the movie. So, maybe I should see the movie again ;). Mr. Wickham is Rupert Friend more enjoyable than the 1995 version, eheh

In all honesty, we will probably be discussing the same topic in ten years when Hollywood comes out with 2 more Pride And Prejudice movies. I'm just happy they haven't touched 1995 Sense And Sensibility yet.

Yes, maybe, the problem is that, each one we saw first, but to reinforce my love for Colin Firth's Darcy, we don't have other movies, playing characters inspired in Mr. Darcy made with the actor from 2005, eheheh!!
Lauren, I'm joking!! I also love the entire serie, the sisters, the family and the surroundings from the 1995 version, but obviously the serie is more complete than the movie.

I don't remember very well Lucy Steele character but I have the same idea about that character.

I don't think it's a bummer to have different opinions :-). It's been awhile since I have read the book, but it is one of my favorites. I am sure that I don't have it quite right, though. I do not get the impression that she is book smart or intelligent in a philosophical sense. She does come off as silly, but I do think she is cunning in an opportunist sense. Maybe not the most cunning character ever, and certainly she makes what seems to be a misstep with telling Fanny. However, it's hard to argue with the results (view spoiler) Really, I marvel out how everything ended up the way she wanted. Pure dumb luck? Maybe, but I think there is a fair bit of cunning to the character.

There is a 2008 BBC mini series of Sense and Sensibility. Andrew Davies wrote the screenplay, and he is also associated with 1995 P&P and Sanditon.

Did you read Sanditon? Wich version?
There are some book versions with Andrew Davies part (I presume) and some continuation from another writer.

I haven't read any version. Will look into it though.

I adore the 1990s one with Kieren Hinds and Amanda Root and somehow never imagined Captain Wentworth as a blond :)

I'm not sure how many of you follow the Bond Street thread in this group for free ebooks and ebooks on sale, so I wanted to share on this thread as well, so you don't miss out on BOGOs for Jennifer Ashley's ebooks and audiobooks on Kobo and Barnes and Noble. I copied and pasted her newsletter below for more detail.
From Jennifer Ashley:
BOGOs!
I wanted to alert you to several Buy-one, Get-one deals I have going on right now for my e-books and audio books at Kobo and Barnes and Noble.
At Kobo
At Kobo, a large number of my e-books are Buy One Get One Free until Dec 31. You'll see a tag on the ones that are on offer, and the discount is applied at checkout. (Available in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.)
Essentially, almost all romances published by me are in the Kobo promo: Riding Hard, Shifters, Mackenzies, and all my Christmas Titles! (Please note any of my books published through Berkley are not available in this promo).
In addition many of my audiobooks at Kobo are on sale! Again, the discount is taken at checkout. (And again, if a Berkley book, not in the promo)
To find the books, simply go to https://kobo.com and search for Jennifer Ashley. You can choose filters to show only audio books or only e-books, as you like.
Barnes and Noble
At Barnes and Noble, I have a Buy One Get One 50% off for my holiday e-book titles: A Mackenzie Family Christmas, Fiona and the Three Wise Highlanders, Snowbound in Starlight Bend, and A Shifter Christmas Carol.
You won't see a discount marked, but it is taken at checkout.
(If you prefer print books, I apologize. These promos are e-book only, and I unfortunately have no control over that.)
