It's very different. I think it's partly the Scottish setting and language. The characters are definitely not mainstream types, and quirky doesn't fit the tone of the book. I want to know what happens to them. How did the Mr come to choose this book?
Does anyone know what tabs and jellies are, in the drug world?

Most likely slang in relation to meth
I want to get my facts right before responding, but I have heard tabs before. I just am not keen to google it at work. I'll let you know after 5.

Urban dictionaried it. Tabs are ecstacy and jellies are tranquilizers.
Thanks! She had already referred to E and meth, so I thought maybe tabs were pills of some kind, but jellies threw me :)
Thanks Shannon. That was going to bug me for 3 hours otherwise. I thought I'd heard E referred to as tabs before, as they are little tablets. But you can't assume these things...
I finished the book they were mentioned in, The Death of Bees. Very compelling, once I reached a certain point I couldn't stop reading.
I have finally finished my first book Birdsong. I loved it and gave it a 5 star rating. It's got such a meaningful story about love, loss, the horrors of the First World War and the strength of the human spirit and I am so glad that I finally got around to reading it.Now I am moving onto my second book which is Splintered which I think will fit into the First Love task.
Morning, evening, afternoon to all :) It's very quiet in my office, I think it's a sign I should nick off home and read a bit ;)
Same here Kat! I'm wondering if I can go hide in a corner somewhere and get a spot of reading done ;-)
Sam wrote: "Same here Kat! I'm wondering if I can go hide in a corner somewhere and get a spot of reading done ;-)"I should have done that several hours ago - people could always find me if they really wanted me!
Trouble is, if I hid in a corner I wouldn't want to be disturbed so I think the bosses might not be too impressed!
I'm back from radiation and have spent forever reading posts. Now it's the afternoon, already! Off to get some reading done!GO LOVE STINKS!
No place to hide at work for me. It is 10:48am PST here in Hillsboro, Oregon. I am pounding away at my keyboard and answering email. I got in an hour of reading before I came to work, but will not be able to get back to it until I get home. Hope everyone enjoys their day/evening reading!

Back from work for a couple hours then I'm seeing patients til 10. Hopefully I can stay awake reading now, but I'm not sure I'll be able to!

I decided to take the day off today. Have an awful cold and didn't want to infect anyone, even though I probably caught it from someone at work. Just me, the dog, tea and books. Tomorrow my office is closed for a holiday (Lincoln's birthday) so I'll read all day tomorrow too. Poor me ;)

Thanks for the tea and flower, Connie. I think it's time for a hot toddie.Beth, don't feel jealous. The reading is good as long as I can stay awake, but the sneezing and coughing is wicked.
Debra, I don't feel TOO sorry for me either, :D
I'm glad I still have homemade chicken soup left from Friday.
Roz wrote: "I'm glad I still have homemade chicken soup left from Friday. ..."The perfect medicine.
Feel Better.
I probably should have reported in when I got home from work, but now I am going to bed. I stopped to pick up dinner on the way home, sat at the table eating and reading, and just posted my 2nd book Everything Beautiful Began After into the reporting thread. I am still thinking about it. I don't think I am going to start on my 3rd book tonight. I am tired.
I hope AmyK feels feels better tomorrow. She was so miserable when I talked to her on the phone this afternoon. I am a bad mom. All I wanted to do was go home from work and read, read, read. I could have gone to the store and gotten her some chicken soup.
After all my reading on the weekend, I didn't get anything read yesterday. Work and family got in the way. Hopefully I'll get some in tonight though.
After I did a little bit of reading while I am officially at work (it´s Jane Austen so you could also regard it as further education, right?), I am looking forward to going home soon, having dinner and then a nice long bath with a book. I´ve told my husband already that he can not expect me to keep him much company until the 16th... :-).
Good Morning to you and good afternoon from my side of the world. Have a great day!!Amy, I hope that you´re feeling better today.

(hmm..... if i drink enough hot toddies, maybe I won't care)
Thank you everyone, wish I could say I felt tons better this morning, but It would be a gross exaggeration. Apparently there is a shortage of "let mommy sleep on the couch and be good" days in our household today as well, so I am up and off to the drugstore to find the most maximum strength cold medicine to get me through the day with my relentless 3 year old.
I have managed 2 books already, and am working on number 3 in between sneezes :)
Have a great reading day everyone!

There were times I couldn't decide if I liked it or not, but it made me think so much that I loved it. And I thought the writing was beautiful.
It's noon. I think that's late enough to start the hot toddies. Luckily I have another day off (Lincoln, bless his soul)so I'm going to be reading. And the husband is off in Syracuse on a convention until Thursday.
I've still got homemade chicken soup in the fridge, so if you want to come by, Amy, please do, but I think the cross-country commute would be a killer.
I'm off to the drugstore for more lozenges, cold-eeze, a decongestant and tissues. Then the library to pick up a couple of books I have my eye on, then home to bed (with a toddy).
Feel better, Amy. They say that nose flushing stuff works, but it just sounds gross to me.
Feel better Amy!! Now you can guilt your mom into taking care of you instead of reading :)Lara - Real life doesn't understand that reading should be a priority! The only reason I got anything read was because I can listen to books at work.
Alexandra - I think Jane Austen counts as educational :)
Good morning Almeta, although going on afternoon now :) I'm not sick but I'll take one of those hot toddies!
Gaeta - Post anywhere! We'll find you whenever you get lost :)
Roz - do you get Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays off? I'm jealous you're off, but I'd rather be well, so I'll suffer going to work :)

Sneaking a little reading in between sessions today and a job interview later, then I'll read during daughter's swim lesson...
Shirley wrote: "Try a nettie pot"I have one, used it a couple times so far. It works better when my nose isn't completely stuffed up, but it does help with the sneezing some.

How can one not like "Love is like life only longer"?
I hope this poem has the same effect on you as it did on me - then my re-typing it will be worth the effort. Walk with Me by the Water - worth the read... A BEAUTIFUL POEM ABOUT GROWING OLDER:
Shit...I forgot the words.
Snoozie Suzie wrote: "What's a nettie pot?"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_ir...
correct spelling is neti pot
tap water is always used with caution and I would use boiled and cooled.
