Tasha, how are you liking Life of Pi? I just reached chapter 17 and am having a hard time getting through..it hasn't quite captured my attention yet. Except for the part where (view spoiler)
I managed to start on my audiobook of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. The husband and I went to a state park a couple hours from home and enjoyed some time with Mother Nature. It was fun, but tiring... Especially since it's so hot and humid. I drove back home and let the hubby nap so I took advantage of some prime book time. So far I'm not all that impressed with the book, but it has time to improve. I have the oven preheating so I can warm up a casserole for supper. While it's cooking I'm going to shower and get comfy so I can curl up with my other toppled book, No Hope For Gomez. Oh, and pour a glass of wine since i just remembered this is a tippling toppler! I'll have to go check that thread out first!
@steph: the first of Pi is hard to get into, things really pick up after the get on the boat. Don't give up on it, it's really a great book!

I worry this book might not be interesting enough for my liking but I am going to listen on my way to work tomorrow
KimeyDiann wrote: "@steph: the first of Pi is hard to get into, things really pick up after the get on the boat. Don't give up on it, it's really a great book!"I will keep at it. I only got about 76 pages read in it. Hubby put a movie on so of course my attention got distracted by the movie. Going to read a good chunk of the book tomorrow though!

I started and dumped "Sous Chef." Decent book, but very dry. Good for someone wanting straight-forward info about restaurant kitchens and food production therein. I fell asleep within 15 minutes of starting it. So instead, I've been reading another foodie book -
The Man Who Ate Everything. Much better fit for me : )
I finished Murder on the Orient Express last night for Anthony Award 2000, and fell out asleep. I'll post it in the reporting thread. There was murder with a knife, of course, so I had to drink some tea. Liked the way this one ended. Today I'm going to start Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened for humor category.
Good morning, Crushers or Good Evening depending where ya'll are :) are we ready to crush some more chapters out of the way? Let's do this!!
Lol love the enthusiasm I am on day 3 for my 12 hour shifts so feeling tired but brought my book to read on my breaks todayGo team go :)
LOL! I certainly didn't do any housework yesterday. I swear though, with all that tippling I did a lot of reading in the bathroom :) I guess I have that to look forward to today again. At least I'm getting lots of hydration.
Oh, I finished my first book, The Dog Who Healed a Family: And Other True Animal Stories That Warm the Heart & Touch the Soul. Such a cute face on the front. Several stories had me laughing, and there were some heartwarming and heartbreaking stories. But a couple made me so mad/upset that they ruined some of my enjoyment of the other stories.Even though the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has changed their policy because of the incident in this story, I can't forgive them for their callous and inhumane treatment of a javelin. They refused to provide information to the owners about where they "released" Buddy, even after a court order, and then only gave them a map four months after losing an appeal. The Thornes never found out what happened to Buddy.
Stupidest idea ever to raise money - A church bazaar was requesting kittens to be donated for a sale at a pet table. It was just a quick mention and thankfully wasn't acted on by the owners of the kittens in the story. The focus of the story was how a kitten showed so much intelligence and affection after being loved and nurtured.
I think my favorite story was about Casey, an African gray parrot, because it made me laugh so much.
I probably should make it clear:The alternative awards aren't another category to read books for, they're just a fun thing to do after you've read a Toppler book.
Finished Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened for humor. It was LOL hilarious!Started The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat for the beauty category. What cat with scarf doesn't look beautiful?
I finished No Hope for Gomez for the humor category. it was okay, but nowhere near what I expected. I'm kinda glad I'm finished with it. @Debra, glad to hear you like Hyperbole, I've been wanting to read it for a long time but haven't gotten around to it. I used to read the author's blog and loved it so, I figured the book had to be pretty great too.
okay, off to gopher what to read next... Hopefully I find something better than Gomez.
^^ hi Tasha! Melissa and I were chatting the other day and she said Breakfast at Tiffany's is for book turned into movie :) hope that helps!
I'm about 74% done with Life of Pi. It has gotten better but I am done reading for the day. I will be able to finish it tomorrow then start and hopefully get a good chunk read in Travels with Casey :-) have a good night ya'll!
I'm a little less than half-way through A Streetcar Named Desire, the winner of the 1948 Pulitzer for Drama. I had forgotten how good this play is. Now I wish I had a way to watch the movie again, with Marlon Brando as a young Stanley Kowalski.

I agree that cat is really cute
I'm reading Toby's Room. I have no idea where it's headed, it's a strange ride so far, but it's easy reading with good writing.
I've started two more books,Lady Susan, The Watsons, Sanditon by Jane Austen
&
Better Living Through Plastic Explosives by Zsuzsi Gartner
Tomorrow at work I'll start listening to Another Man's Moccasins, winner of the 2009 Spur Award for best western short novel (290 pages).
Great reading everyone! Things kept coming up this weekend, but from today lots of train time again for reading :)
I started reading Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry yesterday afternoon. I had a hard time picking what I wanted to read next, but I think I've picked a good one. So far it is very interesting. Toppler Category: Newberry Medal Winner.
Finished The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat for beautiful picture on the cover. Have really enjoyed the heart-warming story of this man and his amazing cat.Started A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail for another humor book. Already has me LOL a lot.
Just to let you all know, I'm reading Sense and Sensibility. It should work for several categories if we suspect category variety matters.

Way to go everyone! Keep up the awesome work! I should finish Life of Pi today. Tasha, is Life of Pi getting better for you? Once Pi is on the lifeboat is where the story finally picked up for me :) I hope it has gotten better for you as you read :) I don't think this one will be more than a 3 star book for me :)

I loved the graveyard book! Hope you will enjoy it too Tasha :)I'm over halfway through Forrest Gump. It's not spectacular but I'm enjoying it. I should finish it tonight or tomorrow.

@Pragya: I'm about halfway finished with it I think. So far it is interesting, but I don't think it is going to be a five star read. Parts of it sort of make me uncomfortable, but I imagine that is the author's purpose. When I was pulling my car into the parking lot at work this morning a major twist was revealed so I'm that much more anxious to get off work. I sort of expected the twist, but I just want to know what happens next. LOL. I get to find out in only 20 more minutes! :)

I really liked it and I am glad I could fit it in the toppler I bought it a month ago
I love Cool Runnings...and it's still the only thing I can say in a really good Jamaican accent (if I do say so myself)!
